Is this due to the Sailor Moon anime upcoming or just happenstance?

It's an unfortunate chain reaction. People post episode impressions of extremely long series -> series gets a lot of exposure in the thread over a longer period of time -> people become intrigued because they see so many impressions -> more people pick the series up -> even more impressions -> ad infinitum.

Turn A Gundam 19

S66KmrY.jpg

I don't know what the fourth one is, and if no one says anything about the other one, I think we'll all be fine.

So basically the Turn A Gundam decided that it would never be the AGE or Freedom Gundams, and, realizing it was out of the running for the most conventionally broken Gundam, it went to the Wolverine route and gave itself a Healing Factor. So Nanomachines inside their bodies keeps the Gundam basically always in tippy top shape (if you consider that it took several episodes to recover as "always".)

Sexy as all get out fight-scene this episode between an increasingly desperate Lt. Poe (and honestly, I can't feel sympathetic for a woman who is out and out abandoning her orders and any pretense of reason to pick a fight at this stage) and the Gundam. Sochie tried to fight some WaDoms, which is hilarious because a WaDom is about as much taller than the Turn A Gundam is the Zok that Sochie is piloting (which, for clarity's sake, is much, much smaller than the standard issue MS.) Sochie did surprisingly well, considering she didn't die while fighting something that big, even if she was barely able to really fight it.

I assume that, when she says that she's defeated some other MSes, she means the tiny WaDs the Lunarian forces are using, as opposed to the massive WaDoms, or the standard issue SUMO units.

Anyway, I don't really hate Sochie. I see why someone might, but I think that what sets her apart from characters like her is that 1)Sochie isn't actually a racist. She hates the Moonrace, and she's pissed Loran deceived her, but her relationship with Loran isn't that severely tarnished by it, and she seems to get on with him as well as she ever did. 2)Sochie admits when she is wrong fairly often. In this episode she recognized that
the men who died aboard the Gallop died because she rashly decided to attack the Lunarians.
and 3)Sochie's feelings are legitimate. Her father died because of these people, and I can understand why she would feel this way about them.

These I think really set Sochie apart from say, Flit Asuno. Flit is a racist, he never admits to being wrong about anything (and indeed the show attempts to portray him as justified well after he should be) and while the death of his mother is legitimate, I think Flit crosses the line several times.

Now, a more difficult comparison would be between Suzaku Kururugi and Flit Asuno. Suzaku isn't a racist, and while he does admit he's wrong, he also views some of the things he knows are wrong as necessary anyway (although the show does not try to shield him from it the way Hino shielded Flit), and his hatred of Lelouch is very much so justified. A key difference between the three is power, I think. Namely, Sochie has no or little power. She's a base level soldier and she pilots one of the weakest and most laughably unthreatening mecha in the series. She has no sway over this war in any real sense, especially not compared to Kihel and Dianna. Suzaku has more power, sufficient to actually deal a great amount of harm to the people who harmed him and enable him to vindicate himself, but not enough to effect any change in the system. He also clings to the system (granted, that ideology had worked well until a specific point, at which point the system no longer worked as it had.) more than he should. Flit, at the far end of the spectrum, has absolute control of the entire system by the end of Gundam AGE. Whether or not he still holds the title he held in the end of Arc-2 (which was basically King of Earth), he wields enough influence that he can pick that up whenever he wants, and indeed, the war only ends when he says it will.

Anyway, Loran has a boat now, meaning he has a Gundam and a White Base. Dude might not be Kira, but he's no slouch. Make him a Newtype and we'll be fine.

The show has to click with people too.

Otherwise everyone would have suffered watched ZeXal after I did.

What can I say? Girls' plastic shit shows > boys' plastic
cardstock?
shit shows :(

In your case, I get the distinct feeling that watching you watch ZeXal is more fun than just watching ZeXal.

Tokyo Mew Mew 1:

So this is basically Arjuna for babbys, huh? :lol Environmental overtones, a mysterious blonde bishounen with access to future tech roping a girl into fighting monsters born from man's rapacious destruction of nature. Episode was standard for what it was, and as such it's impossible to truly judge this kind of show until the ensemble is all there. Still, there was no particular spark of wit or energy or visual charisma to entice me to watch any more except as a mere curiosity; it's quite plain and stark in that early digital way and the character designs are the exact sort of typical early 00s cute that I find dull. That said, I probably will watch one or two more. There's romance and even multiple potential suitors, which means it's at least less safe and ultra-reactionary than Precure.
I would like for you to make special note of the morally reprehensible premise.

It's only unfortunate when the show isn't Sailor Moon or Ojamajo Doremi. :p

Regardless, they should all be watching K-ON! instead.

Is this something that makes itself apparent from the beginning? The whole ep felt pretty vanilla to me.

It's only unfortunate when the show isn't Sailor Moon or Ojamajo Doremi. :p

I will plumb the depths of obscurity until I find a long series that I can feel ethically sound about pimping again.

Thread will return to normal after we've all had a good shot of The Mystical Laws.

It's happening sooner than you think. I have taken it into my own hands.

True. Its one of the more :hito shows out there.
You don't really know what i'm talking about there but to be fair, I've only explained to a few people what :hito actually means. Let's just say it's along the same reasons why I've sat through so many vampire anime.

Sailor Moon Lewd Stars 172

I was expecting them to have Usagi win before Chibiusa faded. NOPE! Killed her off first! They actually had the balls to kill her off, even if I knew she'd come back anyway. After yelling about her pain, she was then redeemed by everyone, and is now reliving her childhood again... which begs me to wonder why didn't this happen at the end of SuperS?
Because she was never meant to be redeemed in the first place. In the manga, Nehelenia was pretty much the Yin/Yang counterpart to Queen Serenity and acted like Maleficent at Usagi/Princess Serenity's birth. She's on the same level of Queen Metallia, Death Phantom, and Pharaoh 90 in terms of entities that can only be sealed or destroyed.

I will plumb the depths of obscurity until I find a long series that I can feel ethically sound about pimping again.
That was a slap on the face, and I don't appreciate it. Sulk on your own fucking time.

Its a by the numbers magical girl show. Its just noticeable if youre a fan of nekomimi or kemonomimi.

Wait, what? It was meant to be jokingly self-deprecating but I don't understand where the offense is coming from.
*takes a deep breath*

Sorry, I'm already in a bad mood over something entirely unrelated and I took that as you extending your regrets over Precure to shows you and I both love.

Well I figured as much, but in comparison to the others, they never really "existed" the same way Nehelenia did, who actually came out and did shit, whereas the furthest it went with the others was like a blob of energy, and them only fighting as far as the second in command and stopping it before it got any further.

No worries. I don't regard myself as "pimping" Sailor Moon or Doremi, which is probably where we misunderstood each other.

Being reborn as a mecha guy certainly has its appeal. It's another genre that I can pretty much consume endlessly regardless of quality but it's taken a backseat to other stuff for me for the past couple of years.

That was a fun episode.

The DRAMA was a lot more low-key than I expected it to be. And it basically became a camp-over with silly hijicks and male bonding.

Mad Pierrot: Anyway, what's morally wrong about Tokyo Mew Mew is the selection process. This isn't a matter of finding girls with innate ability and asking them to heed the call of duty or girls volunteering to jump on the opportunity presented to them. This is simply zapping random girls on the street with a DNA beam then forcing them to work for you.

And making one of them a fucking dolphin.

Speaking of which, it's been 3 fucking days now, and there's no C84 Precure doujins, let alone anything new period! Someone is slacking hard.

  • Looks like a Sergal.
  • Sochie is one of the best parts of the show.

I only comment on Sochie because Megalosoro told me I would probably hate her. As someone who has no idea why some things set me off, I'm not sure why, yet. Her :cajun voice also does wonders for my feelings for her character.

Dai-Guard 11

Really enjoying this show. This episode saw Ooyama and Aoyama (Japanese names are weird) at odds with each other. Largely because everyone at the office thinks that Aoyama is still a slimy craven who abandons his work to sleep with multiple women at once
which he isn't. His mom is really, really ill and he's worried about her. Presumably his cowardice in the Dai-Guard stems from the fact that, if he were to die piloting it, no one would be around to support his mom. He has a sibling, but they seem to live far from home/not be as concerned with his mother's help. Having watched my dad's breakdown at my grandmother's passing due to a debilitating illness, Aoyama is a pretty sympathetic guy, and doesn't deserve the treatment he's getting.
In particular, though, Ooyama is pissed because last episode Aoyama slammed the breaks of the Dai-Guard, which worsened Akagi's condition and made the whole team and company look like damn fools on national TV.

Meanwhile, Shirota is pissed as hell about the Hollywood Military he's suddenly landed in, and when the Kokuboger decides to pull an Evangelion Unit 04, and the Heterodynes are advancing on the hospital where conveniently Ibuki's step-father is working/Akagi is lying ill/Aoyama's mom is still recuperating, and the ANPO orders the whole site be nuked rather than saved, so that the military can save face, Shirota flips out, starts a media circus, and rushes off to join the Dai-Guard team. The episode ends just before the showdown begins.

Oh, and a sub plot about Hollywood Nerdy Reika and the young mechanic for the Dai-Guard team, and how they're trying to escort a new weapon for Dai-Guard to the team.

I wish I didn't rediscovered I had games, because this would've been easier to do.

Getter Robo Armageddon > whatever you're playing at the moment.

There's no denying that she's pressganged somewhat unceremoniously, but I thought that the episode established that there was an "innate ability" element, though. She was determined to be genetically compatible with the Mew Project; otherwise she wouldn't have been targeted in the first place.

But I wanted to play the Saturn game before I watc-*breaks down crying because I'll never be able to afford the fucking thing*

Watching others suffer is more amusing than suffering it yourself. :[

I think I watched Ufo princess valkyrie at the same time as tmm so turning girls into nekomimis all kinda blended together.

But at no point does what she want play into things.

Wasn't refuting your statement that the premise is morally objectionable; just the particular point that it was totally random.

Anyway, I don't know if it's that different from your typical "scouting" anyway! Who's going to say no when they're asked to save this or that magical fairy kingdom, even if it's clearly going to be an enormous inconvenience? Characters that seem altruistic are really just getting quietly strongarmed and guilted into doing what they do.

I meant more in terms of watching whatever. It has been like... almost a week since I played something until I decided to just play Monster Hunter during my down time at work. Twas fun.

Don't worry, I wouldn't seriously ask someone to stop something they're enjoying, hahah.

At this point we're just arguing brute force versus coercion.

Its all kinda silly though. Its probably the least realistic anime genre and kinda counterintuitive to argue over how the girls became mahou shoujo. I can see how it seems kinda disturbing on the outside but its pretty much just the vehicle to make the show work.
