Hey, where's Platy? Having an entire half of a third of an episode dedicated to the semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal of action before trasitioning to a firefight between Mokarin and her mom was.... interesting. I know from reading opinions on Sailor Moon 4 and one of last season's Love Live episodes that weight loss episodes can be a tricky business for fans, and this was the least subtle take I've seen on the subject for some time. Rihoko, you really have nothing to worry about.

A part of me is wondering if the audience likes Mokarin because of the indulgent aspects, and while the show is funny, that's the only thing keeping me from naming it as one of my favorites. Seeing her "strategy" in the arcade game was pretty neat, though, and a shining moment for Kayo. All glory to the otaku!

This is really pretty. There wasn't a moment where I wasn't amazed. The sound design was pretty good as well.
Now I'm a bit conflicted. I'm not a movie person, as more often than not I feel that 2h is usually too little, and that a small series would be better, to develop the characters more and stuff like that (also because I want to see more of the world >.>). And this is the case here. Heck it isn't even a 2h movie. I would love to see their relationship growing. I feel that, even though they show a progression with sequences of moments, the ending would've been more powerful if we had more time with the characters.
Anyway I loved it.

Didnt think people would like the datekou that much at least reading the other three people that posted on haikyuu!! so far. Datekou and Karasuno match always has a special place to me, so many good moments back then.

Haikyuu!! Episode 17

Great episode with some nice comedy. Favorite moments was Tsukishima still calling Kageyama King and their fire style back and forth lol. These moments make it so good.

Matchwise really captured the spirit of Dateko and the whole intensity of Aone. Though he comes off so stiff then again he is like an Iron Wall so maybe that matches their team perfectly. The other characters like Fukatuchi were great sides for it.

Everybody wants to dance with Mizuho, and it ends with a non-ending.

Pretty middle-of-the-road stuff. It's a bit funny, but not the funniest, a bit sad, but not the saddest, a bit lewd, but not the lewdest and so on. Not as harem-y as expected and no real standout characters. At least it's not boring, but it's not something that's really memorable either. It doesn't go totally overboard with the cross-dressing comedy, so that's something at least.

A middle-of-the-road score for a middle-of-the-road show. 2.5/5 school uniform broaches:

So, I finished it.

Episode 01
01:07 (Hamlet)
Yoshino: The time is out of joint.
Aika: O, curse spite
Yoshino: The time is out of joint. O, curse spite. That ever I was born to set it right!

21:38 (Hamlet)
Yoshino: The time is out of ...
Mahiro: The time is out of joint.

22:08 (Hamlet)
Mahiro: The time is out of joint. O, curse spite. That ever I was born to set it right!

Episode 02
21:31 (Hamlet)
Mahiro: O anger, turn to heat, dry up my brains (original: O, heat, dry up my brains)
This is followed by some other sentences that sound shakespearish, but aren't actually in hat form in any of his works

Episode 05
8:39
This is not a quote, but another important point that returns once in a while is Aika explains the structure of dramas, and more specific tragedies and comedies. The show plays a while with the open thought whether it's story will turn out a tragedy or a comedy.
Aika: Everything happens for a reason. The daily tragedies and misfortunes are all meaningful events, leading towards an ideal conclusion. With his in mind, there probably isn't really any meaningless misfortune.

9:31 (Hamlet)
Aika: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dream of in your philosophy

Episode 06
None, but we have Junichirou holding a skull [link to picture]. Which could be chance, but since the show is so close to Shakespeare I want at least mention it.

Episode 07
2:55 (Hamlet)
Mahiro: Whether love lead fortune, or else fortune love.
Yoshino: For 'tis a question left us yet to prove.

21:50 (Hamlet)
Yoshino: Purpose is but the slave to memory.
What we do determine, oft we break.
[Mahiro: Hamlet, huh? Today marks the end of this revenge play.]

22:07 (Hamlet)
But look, the morn, in russet mantle clad, walks o'er the dew of yon high eastward hill.

Episode 08
15:02 (Hamlet)
Mahiro: Conscience and grace, to the profoundest pit! I dare damnation. To this point I stand. That both the worlds I give to negligence. Let come what comes, only I’ll be revenged.

Episode 09
13:40 (Hamlet)
Aika: There are more things in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. [same line was referenced in episode 5]
[Yoshino: Hamlet again? Let's stop that. ('that' referring to the quoting of Hamlet, because he don't want have to think about him and Mahiro killing each other)]

14:26
[Aika: If you dislike quotations from Hamlet, why don't I quote from another story of revenge, but one in which everyone lives happily ever after?]
From this point on, Aika quotes from The Tempest, "another story about revenge, but where everyone lives happily ever after" and in the present Yoshino is realizing, that the "mage of the island" is connected to the Tempest.

15:17
[Yoshino: Is it possible, Aika-chan, to make this story not end in tragedy?]

15:32 (The Tempest)
[Yoshono: I'll give it a shot, Aika-chan. I don't know if the character in that story is an air sprite or a hideous monster, but if this is the role given to me... ]
The "air sprite" is referring to the air spirte Ariel in the Tempest [link] and the "hideous monster" is Caliban, the crippled antagonist in the Tempest [Link]

Episode 10
Yoshino tells Hakaze to incise "Ariel", which is the name of the air sprite, which shows that he choose it over the monster.

Episode 11
19.07 (The Tempest)
Aika: Let us not burden our remembrances with a heaviness that's gone.
[Mahiro: That isn't from Hamlet. I don't recognize it.
Aika: A storm... It's from The Tempest]

Episode 12
22:29 (The Tempest)
Aika: Had I been any god of power, I would. Have sunk the sea within the earth or ere. It should the good ship so have swallowed and the fraughting souls within her.

Episode 13
1:17 (The Tempest)
Aika: We are such stuff as dreams are made on and our little life is rounded with a sleep. [...]
[Mahiro: The Tempest, huh?
Aika: Oh, so you read it.
Mahiro: I read it so that I could criticize it.]
[...]
[Mahiro: it's another story about revenge, right? Then it must end in tragedy. Only sadness can counter sadness. If that's the case all that's left is sadness.]
Aika: O, I have suffered. With those that I saw suffer. A brave vessel. Who had, no doubt, some noble creature in her. Dashed all to pieces.

Episode 16
12:54 (Hamlet)
[Yoshino: The king is poisoned and killed, then, as a ghost, he appears before Hamlet to demand revenge. his mother asks him if he really saw a ghost... ]
[scenes turns into a flashback]
Aika: “Seems,” madam? Nay, it is. I know not “seems.”
[Yoshino: *sigh* Hamlet again?
Aika: I imagine you to be the type who'd say you hadn't seen a ghost even if you had.]

13:55 (Hamlet)
[Aika: You'd like to see someone who'd passed on, even as a ghost. Would you deny those feelings as well? For example... what if it were my ghost?]

14:43 (Hamlet)
[Mahiro is lying in the apparent, reading Hamlet and discuss it with Natsumura] [Link]

15:01 (Hamlet)
[Mahiro: Hamlet's mistake is that he believed in something like a ghost that doesn't exist. The second he believed in something irrational, he was doomed.]

Episode 24
Aika tells Yoshino and Mahiro, that every actor has to fulfill his role and Mahiro answering at her grave, that she was wrong and people shouldn't live after scripts. Not Hamlet, nor Tempest, he would write his own ending. With her voice over seemingly agreeing with him, as the last episode closes with her saying the episode title: "And to each, their own tale."

Mike identified the flowers connected to the relationship of
Aika and Mahiro
as daffodils who are mentioned in Shakespear's The Winter's Tale.

The Winter's Tale said:
When daffodils begin to peer,
With heigh! the doxy over the dale,
Why, then comes in the sweet o' the year;
For the red blood reigns in the winter's pale.

So, the quotes went from Hamlet to Tempest, back to Hamlet until
the conflict between Mahiro and Yoshino was resolved.
After that the quotes vanished and it was only theater itself that was referenced.

I love this anime.

Great episode. Humor was subtle and did not feel forced unlike most Dandy episodes. The animation was just magnificent.

Akame ga Kill 04

So the first major battle with someone of equal skill, and an explanation of just what all these weapons are. This is reminding me a bit of Crime Edge, but that had a softer side to it that this only shows occasionally. Akame's pretty equal parts scary and quirky at this point, and as long as it maintains some of that goofiness outside the battles, I'll stick with it.

Akame ga Kill! Episode 4 – Kill the Imperial Arm Users
Bro moments are solid and great throughout. Tatsumi training continuing wouldnt be bad, especially if it embraces hard work and determination more so than Imperial Arms usage. Will he ever even get one or stay normal? I wouldnt mind him staying normal though, normals deserve a chance to shine
especially how he could still deal some damage this episode

Life isn't fair.

It was an okay ep, I guess. Never really been overly fond of this type of thing in Western media so I'm not the best judge here. Still, felt cohesive and consistent enough that it seems like we're due for a nice continuous chunk of solid eps if the preview for next week is anything to go by.

Space Dandy 17
I wasn't really big on this. I find parody to be pretty boring and this felt like the most rote interpretation of what it was spinning off of. I appreciate that they were willing to even do a take on musicals but the simplistic choreography and set dressings really bored me, and because this was essentially a spit take the adherence to standards set by cliches muted just how weird Space Dandy as a series can get. I feel like if they were going to parody this setting targeting something from the time period of Grease would have been a better fit for Dandy, but maybe Japanese people don't really have much familiarity with that.

Yeah that reaction seems to be the consensus.
Part of what it's nothing really is the fact that they adapt no route.
So you have no drama.
There are some pretty great moments or some very lewd moment depending of the route yet the anime does neither.
Still it's not a bad anime but i recomand playing the Vn if only for scenes like these :

otoboku05.png

They also had a superior deus-ex machina device for why the MC was able to go to the pool.

Average anime but the Vn is just so superior.

C-can he form the Triforce with Kirito and Onii-sama?

One part for Power. Given to the battle mage known as Onii-sama for he had unlimited pools of it.

Another part for Wisdom. Given to a gamer working for the government known as Kirito-kun. For he had the wisdom to know that mass murderers are correct during certain situations.

And the final part for Courage. Given to Shirou for having the courage to tell women where they apparently should be and what their role is.

Its kinda weird to see there's demand from fan to see certain studio to making something from certain properties like ufotable does with this Fsn stuff, its not like those deen adaptation were bombing, and yet there's demand to see ufotable and no one else remaking then. Its weird the equivalent of it would be only if Kyoani remaking Little Busters

I would love to see that happen.

When I find spare time, I catch up on my backlog show:

Log Horizon 12

Though there's some game mechanics stuff here with the new players (Rundel Haus reminds me of some Dota teammates I've had...), the story's getting a very political focus, as our adventurer heroes try to jockey for position with the former NPC factions.

There was one small thing that bothered me early on. We open with music playing in the ballroom, which is a primarily-string piece that apparently used to be the opening theme of Elder Tale. So why are we shown all these trombones? There aren't any trombones in the piece, as far as my relatively-untrained ear can tell.

I'm rooting for you, Crusty.

Still, getting better by the episode, this one was actually somewhat enjoyable once it was established that Zank was an actual threat.

Haikyu - Episode 17

Fantastic episode. It's great to see a serious official match with both teams having great players and tactics. The reaction blocks from Aone were really well animated! I didn't even mind that they recycled a couple of them because they're just so stylish. The entire pace of the match showing off the different responses to Karasuno's tactics was well executed, and the key moment in the end was really satisfying. This really is a solid series. Probably the best one IG has made in a long time.

Ah. Too bad I don't play VNs.

Sola OVA 1

The girl on the right is the most interesting character in Sola. And that's a big problem since she's a minor side character with not a lot of screen time.

It's a pool episode which could have been a part of the main series. Nothing really exciting happens, but you get some slightly funny reactions when characters meet that haven't met before.
