Summon Night 5 |OT| Swordcraft Strategy

anyone know if this game is full of missables and stuff? (especially anything important like characters)

I'm trying to figure out if this is a good commute game or if I really need to sit around with a guide

Cannot wait to download my digital copy and start playing this weekend. I have one of the original OLED VITA models so I guess I am in for quite the treat. Not even going to unwrap my physical copy. Just gonna slap that sucker on the shelf and stare at the greatness that is Gaijinworks doing the good deed for their fans.

Let's do this

Is there any chance someone with a PSTV could take a picture of how it looks? I'm a little worried because I only own a PSTV and I've been burned by PSP upscaling hard in the past and don't want to spend the money if it looks like crap again.

I see some of you have figured out what Sony just told us - voucher codes we sent out to the Physical+digital purchasers work now!

14 endings and lots of hidden characters mean if you want to see it all, it will require multiple playthroughs, so it probably works both as a commute and a guide game, switching it up on successive plays.

vic just answered that for me above :)

thanks vic!

I forgot to mention (though it's implied) that new game plus brings forward some of the stuff from a completed game, so you can keep building your stable of stuff through successive playthroughs when you go for more (or even all) the endings. Personally, I like the melancholy of the karma (bad) ending best. But I'm a sucker for a melancholy ending.

Excited for my physical copy to ship... and of course looking forward to whatever Gaijinworks' next game will be (Summon Night 6?)

Class of Heroes 3 (unless you are talking about next unannounced game).

You win! Yes, that's the next one. It's actually pretty far along. Once we get the physical SN5 out the door we can ramp up the media released on that leading up to release, hopefully in 1Q 2016.

Is it possible to finish the game in a week, without rushing through the main story and skipping subquests?

Depends on how much time you play per day. It's a pretty good 30-40 hours, at least, on Normal, one time through, only doing the 28 game event battles and not all the side training, etc missions in the Eucross.

Rolling with Arca and Spinel.
Spinel because I chose at random and Arca because I didn't want to bother sounding out "Folth" in my head for 40 hours.

Abert's the one that gave me mental issues initially. I kept mentally inserting an "L" in to his name because it seemed like it should be "Albert." Eventually, Abert stuck, though.

I... Literally didn't notice there was no L in his name until just now. And I can't go back.

Why!?

Oh, and as a reminder, if you want to see the Japanese opening instead of the English, press and hold triangle before the opening animation loads. It's easiest to do when booting (because you can just hold triangle through the opening splash screens), but you can do it when the title screen cycles to the animation if you time it just right.

What's the difference between this and the Swordcraft Stories that Atlus published on GBA? SRPG vs Action RPG?

What's up with the long faces in the portraits?

Anyway, I want to give this a go, but it's not happening right now. Too busy and Sen is just about to hit.

How's the gameplay? Similar to the Summon Nights for GBA?

Man this game is so pretty and the character designs are so good. Chose Arca and got paired with Spinel, I'm happy with that. I never really like those "pick a random thing" choices but it worked out fine here.

I watched both openings and I prefer the English one, really great work.

I love quoting that kid from Super8, saying that it has "production value" on the screen. Summon Night 5 really is bursting with production value. It's all over the game.

Completely different. The GBA games are action RPG spinoffs, while this is a pretty traditional SRPG.

Who wants a giveaway?

Vanethyr has been kind enough to offer up a Summon Night 5 code which can be yours.

Send me a PM detailing what your favorite Working Designs and/or GW game is, and why you need Summon Night 5 in your life.

(vireland is not eligible for this giveaway, unless he asks really nicely or gives me a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga.)

Why no Gaijinworks logo in the OP? Show your company some love. :(

I *hate* the mandatory, unskippable, splash screen parade from so many games and didn't want to make the one in SN5 any longer. We couldn't combine them or I would have done like we did for CoH2/2G. Putting the needs of the many ahead of the one.

But I did have some fun with the anti-piracy screen.

Even better, I'll throw in a non-folded gloss-printed version of one of the pack-in posters from SN5 to the winner.

We had some printed on thicker, glossier paper for giveaways because we couldn't fold the glossy ones as it would risk paper cracking since the folds are pretty tight to get a big poster in a small box.

Nice to hear about the giveaway! Although I still haven't received my digital code yet so I wonder if Vic is slowly sending out to all the presale purchasers.

Yeah you did, I loved that when I saw it, haha.

How long is this? Always need more SRPGs.

One playthrough, doing almost none of the 40 side and training missions, and only having one main character/cross, is easily 30-40 hours. There are 14 potential endings and it has a new game plus, so if you want everything, it's in the 100 hour plus range.

Codes were done by the early AM, so your email provider either put it in spam and you didn't see it, or deleted it and didn't tell you (Hotmail, live.com, outlook.com, and yahoo randomly do this). Was your order using one of those email providers?

I used Yahoo mail and sadly it got thrown into the Spam folder! Got the code which I'll not be using for now as I still have the "ancient" PSP-3000 and currently busy with work.

As long as you mark it "not spam" it will help them not to do that to other users that haven't migrated from yahoo to gmail yet. :)
