Summon Night 5 |OT| Swordcraft Strategy

One playthrough, doing almost none of the 40 side and training missions, and only having one main character/cross, is easily 30-40 hours. There are 14 potential endings and it has a new game plus, so if you want everything, it's in the 100 hour plus range.

Huh, don't think this will be in the running for GOTY 2015.

Still though, nice to have long JRPGs back, even if I don't have as much time to play them. Love that 3 came out at the end of the year alone.

I used Yahoo mail and sadly it got thrown into the Spam folder! Got the code which I'll not be using for now as I still have the "ancient" PSP-3000 and currently busy with work.

I always redeem my codes immediately. Once its in your purchase history, you can download the game any time. I'm always paranoid about codes getting lost or expiring if I hold onto them too long.

Code being expiry can be a pain but I never setup a PSN account before as I buy physical games and backup the UMD as ISO through my CFW PSP.

Guess either I'll sell it or do another giveaway like Vanethyr did.

Wow, this looks very cool.

Never played a Summon Night game before, might try this out. Almost done with Lost Dimension so it'll be nice to have another portable SRPG to play on portable

I'll decide a winner in half an hour, so, last call.

Having a blast with the game so far! Just started chapter 3.

Hard part is picking who I want to have the night conversations with, lol.

Didnt get too far, only in Chapter 1, but at least I'm past the chatty beginning and through most of the tutorials. I picked Folth, my Cross is Dyth, met up with Yeng-hua and later Abert. Spent some time messing around with the training mission and redoing the first event battle a couple times. The game is snappy, having all animations be individually skippable is convenient. Having the one in-battle save is probably a good thing too.

As of now I like the Brave medal bonus objectives & how you don't have to get them all at once. Folth can class change into a High Summoner, which seems to be a small stat up boost across the board. Yeng-Hua can change into an Ouka Special knight, which actually changes her growths significantly, sacrificing AT/DF for MAT/MDF. I think I'll keep her the starting class for a while longer.

I don't fully understand party skills yet, but that'll come as I get more characters.

Also, nbd but I bought "Illustration 81" from the shop, but it doesn't show up in the gallery yet. I assume I have to see a certain scene or character and it'll appear.

If you can keep the affinity levels pretty consistent amongst three or four characters, you can replay the last few battles, then pick another person with the minimum affinity needed in like chapter 13 or 14, and see their ending, then do it again. That way you can see a number of endings in one playthrough with only a little backtracking to an earlier save.

There are a LOT of tutorials. They keep popping up into about the first 1/3 of the game!

If you save before making the battle start, from that first menu, it's a regular save and doesn't use your one "resume" slot.

Yeah, the Brave medals really make it nice to keep revisiting battles to try to get them "perfect."

There are some really awesome party skills you can set that help you automatically in battles, and others you have to select from a menu. It's a very handy feature.

Vic I have sinned. I am currently playing Tri-Ace's Exist Archive tonight over the finally working codes for Summon Night 5. It is downloaded and on my VITA though I swear! I promise I will start playing tomorrow!

Summon Night 6 when?

Thanks for entering!

This is going to help me out a ton. Thanks for the advice Vic! I definitely want to do a second playthrough anyways, but it'll be nice to see more of the endings this way.

Keeping them evenly elevated (no breakout affinity) you probably won't have enough affinity to see one of the "max" or "love" versions of the character endings, but the difference between that and the regular one is mostly just a few lines in all but a few character's cases. Doing this will let you see the most endings with the least amount of total replays from the beginning.

Summon Night 6 when?

I'd rather you give all your focus to SN5, so by all means, finish up that other unimportant stuff. :)

Do you have any other big titles you're after with this out of the way? (Apart from CoH of course)

There's quite a few JPSN gems to pursue if SCEA are amicable.

Heck, no one's done Elminage 2 or 3 yet, and you'd damn sure do better than UFO Interactive(much love to Ghostlight for Elminage Gothic though).

It'd be a nice break from the anime stylings of CoH and SN5, not that I'm against them.

This is the busiest December I can remember. I'm trying to finish Trails SC before Cold Steel comes out, and now I have this to play too. And Gahkthun at the end of the month. And there's that Xenoblade thing that I haven't even factored in yet.

There are a few longshots we've been after forever, but I pretty much think PSP physical will be done in the US after Class of Heroes 3, and worldwide shortly thereafter.

I'm a sucker for romance even if it's only super small variations, so I may just end up going for 1 or 2 of my favorite guys in the playthroughs. Hmm.

Do
Souken/Abert/Kagerou
have the small "love" ending line variations?

I don't remember exactly offhand, but I know some
male-male ones are more brotastic and others are more vague.

I'm surprised it was this late. Persona 4 was super late on the PS2 but that was still before it was officially discontinued. I suppose the difference is that the PS2 on PS3 emulation was a lot worse. Only a handful of PSP games have real issues on the Vita , most of the holdouts were licensing rather than technical. And the odd game that they broke due to security measures (Disgaea 2 DHDs old save bonus and DLC got broken somewhere along the way ).

Thanks Vic! Good to know. I'm playing as Arca so I'll just see what happens :D

Arca has some love endings that
are sweet and others that are more like really "good friends." One of hers (I don't remember which one) is really off-the-wall, lets-get-married-tomorrow-ish.

I'd laugh if it was one of the more serious characters, but I'm going to guess it's someone like
Calis.
Probably wrong though :P

I love repeatability in games so this is great either way. Especially since I'd like to eventually play as Folth too.

I'm loving the game so far and I really like how you can only have one cross partner out of four in the game since you really learn to appreciate his strength and weaknesses, makes me get more attached to them (that's part of the reason I like Digimon over Pokemon story wise). That being said I really struggled for a while on who to choose since I liked how all 4 looked liked... ended up with Penguin girl
(I'm sorry robot man, next time I'll pick you I swear T_T)

I just wanna thank cj for the contest, Vanethyr for the code, and vireland for the game! This was an awesome thing to wake up to

Pariet is not to be underestimated! She has some pretty devastating attacks as you progress.

Got my code and I have downloaded. I'll be on holiday vacation after my work day is done, so I should be able to squeeze in some play time for this game.

This will be my first numbered Summon Night game, so I'm curious to see how it plays.

Finished Chapter 1. Really liking it so far, but my ineptitude when it comes to SRPGs is really showing.
I beat the first mission on my third try.

Not being able to lose ANYONE on that first battle is a little rough, but the battle isn't too hard, so it's basically just a lesson in party battle management. Fortunately, that "lose no one" condition isn't common for the rest of the event battles in the game.

Not exactly. The special conversations at night basically build affinity, which unlocks the ability to access that character's ending.
Wonder if that's kind of in between Star Ocean's events and social links? That sounds more serious than just stumbling on them in town, but mainly about influencing the ending than powering up.

Yeah, it's definitely about influencing what ending you have access to when you have to choose near the end of the game and how GOOD that ending is (there are variable levels of good endings, usually 2, but sometimes 3 levels, and for minor characters only one). You can see how you're doing at the shop during the game, and also check the main character's karma, which affects getting the bad ending.

PDF of the game manual's here if you want to check out this and other stuff about the game:

One full charge of Vita battery later and I'm still really early in the game (only gotten into 3 fights). There really is a lot of dialog between the characters and I'm loving all of it, feels like your character has lived in the world and not an outsider visiting not knowing what is what.

Thanks, was about to ask something but now I don't have too (too many tutorials, can't remember what everything is! >_<). Funny that the manual has a drawing or Arca and Pariet together, the same team I picked, makes me feel like I chose the canon main characters.

More like Growlanser then? And it bears repeating: this is a pretty game. The models are something else.

Also love that the MC(s) have personality.

Yep. My only problem is that the way they move during convos looks kinda off, but that's it.
I actually really like the portraits and how they move, sad that SN6 uses 3D models now (but the characters will must likely have more poses during conversations so its not all bad).

I've noticed there's a different message at the anti-piracy screen everytime you boot it up. So far I've had it tell me that pirating will give me either halitosis or constipation, lol.

I like that they move, but the way they do seems off to me. Dunno what it is.

Fairy losing wings, blindness and constipation for me.

I liked the piracy scene where it says that everything that you eat will forever taste like natto, lol.

So since I got used to all of the game systems, I restarted and picked Spinel this time since she compliments how I'm wanting to play Arca. She's also really cute :D

Also spent a ton of time fishing. Fishing minigames are my weakness ;_;

Yo the codes wont expire before sunday right? Wont have time to activate till then.
