Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

MarkMan

loves Arcade Sticks
The Xbox One arcade sticks made by Hori and Razer are using the same protocol and enumeration that Mad Catz created with MS. So if the TE2 works, theirs will as well.

Any difference on the Japan exclusive TE2 MarkMan beside the art/buttons?

did you get it through Arcade Shock?

The Hori website. I've ordered some stuff through them before and had no issue.

http://www.teyah.net/sticklag/results.html

Looks like the Hori and the TE2 have delay over the dualshock 4 which I find funny.

I'm not even sure if any credence should be lent to these tests.

I think a lot of people on shoryuken don't lend much credence to those kinds of tests, and they seem to know a lot more about this stuff I do. Either way though, I'm not good enough for the variations to matter, lol.

RAP 4 Kai out of stock on the Hori store. That was fast.
Mine is scheduled to arrive next Tuesday so others may get theirs sooner.

No word on the Amazon one yet. Hopefully all Hori's stock cleared the port together and is just getting distributed to retailers this week. (if that's how it all arrives, no idea)

Looks like TE2s are sold out too.

Arcade Shock just got theirs cleared through customs so they should be shipping them out by the end of this week.

They are still taking orders on them but I don't know if they are getting enough to supply the new and old orders. And was yours an old preorder or did you just buy it today?

The one from the Hori store I just ordered this morning and got the shipping notification this evening.

My remaining Amazon order is from shortly after they went up.

Arcadeshock has the Kai in stock and shipping. Dat international shipping is murder though (still ordered).

Well looks like im just going to have to skip out on the vlx. I guess i can make up for it some where down the line with a fighting edge model for ps4.

Same. I ordered mine from Hori yesterday morning/afternoon and canned my Amazon order. I had a UPS tracking number by the time I left work.

I may end up getting this sooner than I ever would have with Amazon.

Amazon just sent me an Email asking for approval to keep my V4 Kai order:
We're still trying to obtain the following item you ordered on February 13, 2015 (Order#).

"HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai for PlayStation 3/4"

Still want it? We'll keep on trying. To keep your order for this item open, please click the link below. Otherwise, we'll cancel your order on April 04, 2015, if we haven't located it by then.

I just went ahead and placed an order on Arcade Shock instead (since Hori is out of stock). I'll leave the Amazon order hanging til I get a shipping notification from Arcade Shock.

*sigh, this is so frustrating. Hopefully Amazon will at least get a shipping estimate by the end of today.

Except if the numbers are completely faked (which could be tested, but I don't see why they would so that), and assuming the details about the games are correct (I have no idea if they are, since I don't know GG, but again, why wouldn't they?), there's very little to say against the protocol, which is explained in detail.

Wiring the same pushbuttons to both sticks could lead to problems, but should that happen, most probably at least one stick would not work at all. I could imagine this setup inducing some lag (different voltages and impedences) but that would be most probably negligeable.

I don't think those tests are worth anything, personally.
I'm not sure anything under half a frame is really an issue... But the experiment itself is interesting, and i guess identifying *really* slow sticks can be of interest for some players...

I'm not a techhead or anything and don't understand the explanations. I do, however, have friends that are, and they say the method the dude is using is flawed.

I couldn't explain it, but I'll take their word for it, and the empirical data of owning tons of sticks and boards and never noticing a thing. :p

1 frame of lag on a 60fps game is equal to around 17ms so I'd wager most people won't notice much as a majority of sticks are between 5-10ms of delay. According to this guys method which I think isn't the be all end all.

For how "bad" some of these sticks rate people have no problems winning tourneys with them and it all comes down to skill. Unless you are really, really into the technical aspects of sticks that a couple ms will make you go loco. IMO.

Has anyone here received their Hori yet? I'd like to know about the build quality if the mould and the feel of the buttons

I just spoke to Amazon chat regarding the Kai delays, and I was told that they had just started to receive their shipments so I should be getting mine in a couple days or so. They also bumped my order from 2 day shipping to 1 day shipping, so if you guys want you could open up a chat with them now and see if they match that. He assured me that changing the shipping speed wouldn't affect my priority in any way.

Well, just for the heck of it I did the same. The rep didn't seem to know more than we do, and upgraded my shipping to one-day without asking me first, as I kind of expected. I'm really not sure I believe them when they say changing shipping won't bump you out of line. But with one on the way from Hori for single player, which is all I need right now, I figure it's an interesting experiment for future reference. I certainly would not change my billing info unless I had to, but maybe shipping speed is ok.

Hmm, I would have cancelled my order from Amazon for the V4 Kai and purchased it from Arcade Shock but it's an extra $70 AUD.

I'll just wait on Amazon, hopefully it's not a long wait.

Dang... I can't buy VLX model right now!!

Will this product still pre-orderable until release date? ;(

Their own expectations were that it would not last a week. I think they put it up on the 28th. So yeah, that probably won't be possible.

Do you really think they'll only be up until tomorrow? The release being so far out I would hope they'd keep them up until mid March at the earliest.

There's definitely demand for sticks right now and not a lot of people want to pay $300+up front this early.

I don't know anything about any of that haha. I'm just going by what they have been saying, and people in this thread claiming how rare they are. And yeah absolutely agree on the 300$.

Hey MarkMan, are the PS4 USF4 stick preorders expected to be shipping out soon?

The one week was a rough guess but you're talking about two months so highly unlikely.

You have to pay it anyway so what difference does a couple of months make?
Budgeting, it's a lot easier to put aside some money if you know in advance than to simply cough it up out of the blue.
It would also be a lot more expensive if bank interest rates hadn't completely gone down the drain in the last few years I suppose.

If your budget is that tight, maybe a $300 joystick isn't the best idea.

I don't think it really has to do with having a tight budget, though even if you did one proposition is better than the other.
All I'm saying is it is generally for most people a lot easier to plan bigger purchases than to make them on an impulse. That's just common sense.
You aren't even getting the stick until it's out so asking the money upfront would generally be considered unreasonable.

I received my tax return already and it was a nice size. That defiantly helped in my dual VLX decision. I turbotaxed that like a ninja Feb 1st.

May 1st can't come soon enough. I need my sticks and I need my Avengers 2. And why isn't Star Wars coming out May the 4th??? As in May the 4th be with you??? Seems like free marketing.

It would've been nice to be able to budget it out more, and while not being able to do that wasn't really prohibitive for me, it still sucks. Like Theonik says, you're basically giving Hori a 2 month interest free loan, so it effectively costs you more than $300 and you have that money locked up in the stick with nothing to show for it at present and bearing all the risks. It's not actually THAT big a deal but it's pretty onerous compared to how preorders normally work. In the aggregate Hori must be getting a decent pile of cheap $$ through this.
