Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Is there something I need to be aware of before I order an etokki Omni for PS4/PC?
  • Import costs depending on the country you're in.
  • No cable storage.
  • Not a lot of area below the buttons/lever so you might get the edgeof the plexi digging into your hands.
  • Having to hold down a button when plugging in the stick if you're on PC to get a certain mode out of the Brook PS3/PS4 board.

Is anyone here going to EVO? I would be eternal grateful if some generous soul would take pictures of all the crazy, sexy, and most over-the-top sticks present at this years' festivities.

- Sincerely, a guy who wants fightstick porn.

It has been a few years since I followed the arcade stick scene, but I recently picked up some SHMUPs on 360 (Deathsmiles, Espgaluda 2 and Mushihimesame Futari) and would like to get a stick to play them on. What are my options for good Xbox 360 compatible sticks? Also I remember that Seimitsu components were ideal for shooters, is that still the case?

I'll try and get some. Does my stick count?

It has a brook UFB in it now though.

I certainly think so. I still use a HRAP-EX SE for my 360 STGs. It's an old Seimitsu stick from like 2009 or 2010 but it serves me well.

I have had my eye out for an HRAP-EX SE for a while, but no luck so far. I see that Amazon has a few Mayflash sticks (not sure on the quality of those). The other options I see are Hori MvC3, Tekken 7, or HRAP V Kai.

Hello folks! I've been into arcade sticks for a while now and currently own two: The SFIV TES 2 and the Wii Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Fighstick. Love them both! Been lurking on this thread for a while, but now this is my first post here!

So, I am about to embark on the quest of building my own Custom Arcade Stick using the Art Hobbies Tek Case, and I have one question I hope one of you can help me figure out!

I am planning on using the the Brook Universal Fighting Board (one stick to rule them all!), and I would like to use the L3, R3 and Touchpad button functionality. All the other inputs can be easily installed since you can screw them in, no soldering. However, it has come to my attention that in order to use these inputs I'm gonna need to do something else.

The board on Paradise Arcade Shop has some sort of headers for those inputs, and Focus Attack also sells a version of the board that has some sort of plug for those inputs. So, my question is, how in the world do I plug into them?! I know I'm gonna need a 4 pin cable and one of the wires needs to be a daisy chain ground, but I cannot find a cable like this anywhere. So, do I need to make my own? I am complete noob when it comes to this, I do not know how to crimp or solder, so if there is already a pre-made cable that would be a lifesaver.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, hope someone can help me out!

IIRC Paradisearcade has a harness for the predsoldered Brook UFB that has all of the quick disconnects (QDs) that you need for most/all of the buttons. I never got one because I wasn't sure if if actually had one for the TPKey button as well, but going by the number of wires it looked like it did. Hopefully someone else may be able to answer or even just emailing PA about it might work.

TBH, I kind of wish they had screw-downs for those buttons, too, because it makes it that much friendlier, since most applications on PS4 use the TPKey as a back/select/options button function, too. I have my old HRAP3 Kai modded this way, but I used a premade harness for those spots on the board and just crimped my own QDs to them.

I did some research and I am currently leaning toward the Hori Tekken 7 stick, but am going to wait to see what Focus Attack is offering this weekend.

Thanks for replying! Yeah, I took at look at the harnesses that they have on Paradisearcade, but they don't seem to have one for this right now (maybe they did in the past?). I suppose I can shoot them an email and see what they say. Yeah, it would be so much easier if it had the screw-downs for these inputs... oh well.

That's really weird considering the stick looks like it should have ample space, thanks for the heads up.

Well I decided to go the cheap route since I already have a PS3 Madcatz SFIV SE stick with Sanwa parts. I heard good things about the Brook controller adapters and found a PS3 to 360 one. Hopefully it works.

I have a second SE stick with stock parts that has a fried PCB. Is the Brook PS3/PS4 board the one to replace it with?

The PS3/PS4 board is cheaper but has only though-hole solder points. It also has ridiculously tiny mounting holes that I've yet to find any matching foot for. If you're comfortable using those and don't need anything more than PS3/PS4 support, then sure, you could go that route.

Otherwise, the Brook UFB is what most people would suggest. It has screw type connectors preinstalled so it can be installed without soldering. There's also a PS4-specific Brook board that offers headset support.

I saw that Paradise Arcade Shop sells a solderless version of the PS3/PS4 for $50. Yeah, the UFB looks like a great board but also is twice the price.

Yea I put one of these in my fighting edge because I didnt care about xbox compatibility. Works great and I hate soldering anyway so the 10 charge for the breakout was well worth it, and still much cheaper than the UFB

There is also the brook PS4/PS3/PC version coming for 65 https://paradisearcadeshop.com/fgc-...ook-ps4-ps3-pc-fighting-board-with-audio.html

Focus Attack also has a solderless version that also includes a wiring harness. With the EVO sale this weekend, it is down to $40 so I went with that. Thanks.

The new Fighting Edge definitely looks like a bit of a downgrade from the old one... people will probably appreciate the physical start button but there's no LED lighting or touch-controlled button remapping from the looks of it.

That's disappointing. Probably be more reliable in the long run but also cheaper to produce and I'm sure Hori won't be passing on the savings to the customer. It'll probably still be premium priced.

Those were my least favorite things. I have two and the touch panel on both have malfunctioned. This looks like a huge upgrade for me.

One I have to pretty much pound on to get to activate. The other will activate the edit button mode randomly.

I was hoping the new fighting edge would at least keep the LED lights, touch panel I didn't really care for. Form factor seems to be relatively the same. However, I'll wait for reviews/impressions on what it is like before I decide on whether replacing my current stick or not. If the impressions are very negative I might go back to the VLX plan even though they are a pain in the ass to carry around. Price is also a factor I guess. At least it is alive again which is something I guess.

lmao, do you work for Hori's legal and copyright department or something?

Call it a pet peeve or whatever but I just can't stand people getting proper names wrong and I generally point out errors if they're going to be made repeatedly for the sake of my own sanity. It doesn't need to go beyond that.

Do you have any local Gamestops or Best Buys? I believe they carry sticks.

Gamestop has a RAZER but I'd have to order it from one of the other stores

Best Buy doesn't have one, at least not on their website. Unless I'm missing something.

Do you have a frys or microcenter nearby?

No frys. I do have a mc tho. They sell sticks?

OH SHOOT THEY HAVE A HORI.

Hmmm. I def need a new stick now. Maybe I'll pick that one up....

had a mayflash v2 for a while now, using it only for emulators and pc 2d stuff, got a couple of questions about replacing the parts -

gonna get this stick SANWA JLF-TP-8YT BALL TOP JOYSTICK

- JST-XH FEMALE TO FEMALE CONNECTOR CABLE this is the right cable to connect it right?
- are the octagonal gates only really useful for fighting games or will i benefit playing emulators etc?
- anywhere to buy artwork in the uk for these? (too lazy to do it myself) seen a few on ebay for the venom but always ryu :/
