Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Can you still get the Diamond VLX? Or hell, any VLX? I desperately need a new stick of some kind and the Diamond VLX is awesome. Right now I just have a smattering of Hori sticks (PS2 Tekken 5 stick, a couple of "FS3" sticks from when the PS3 launched), and one Madcatz Tornament Edition SF4 (Round 2) stick for the 360, all stock.

I imported mine from Amazon Japan and Tenso's forwarding service. Came out to about $400.

Basically something that looks like an eyeball with a pupil, retina, etc.. But yeah I can't find it on any arcade parts sites or even ebay
Probably have to go custom for that if you can't find one. Either figure out how to do it yourself (find an eyeball and threaded nut?) or find a modder that does that kind of stuff.

Speaking of modding, I was thinking about actuators to reduce the throw on my octagonal sticks. It's actually something that's slightly bugged me since swapping the gates years ago, the throw to cardinal directions feels like the diagonals on the square gates (I was hoping for the opposite when I bought them, i.e. shorten diagonals to match cardinal directions). Anyway besides some tape and shrink tubing mods, I found these options for just swapping the part out:

http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/p...s/978-05mm-oversized-jlf-delrin-actuator.html
http://www.focusattack.com/kowal-1mm-oversize-actuator-for-sanwa-jlf-series-joystick/

Anyone have experience with either? I'm leaning towards the Kowal one cause it seems like it'd reduce throw more than the Paradise one.

edit: Nevermind, found a quick comparison here. Looks like Kowal's will do more what I want, although it'll be interesting to see how the difference of the squared activation part feels.

No one here would happen to know a guy who used to make arcade sticks on shoryuken.com would you? He went by Lazeeya and his real name was Aaron I think. As I recall he was from the San Diego area. This is a shot in the dark, but he took my $300 like 5 years ago and disappeared, which was weird because he had a great reputation as an arcade stick maker for years before that.

at some point.. I could have gotten that PS2 Virtua Stick for $80 before shipping (yahoo!auctions listing with a BUY it now!)... but i was hunting for a HSS-0130 then so i passed on it.

no regrets, but i share the same sentiments. I have vshg, the hss-0130, and the lousy grey+purple virtua sticks.. just need the white saturn and ps2 virtua sticks to complete the clan.

A lot of people got scammed by him and never got their money back. Sorry you're SOL.

kinda off-topic, but are any of you guys on Arcade Otaku? I tried registering like several weeks ago and never got my confirmation e-mail. Tried resending a few times, nothing. I have no idea how to get in touch with an admin, which is what they suggest.

Woah, beautiful concept and execution!

I'd love to see a custom stick that uses actual guitar wood pieces. Maybe not realistic because of the shape of the wood. idk.

Check all your spam/junk/trash folders I guess, otherwise maybe try Twitter/Facebook or the chat (presumably IRC) link.

lol wow such a basic tip but that was exactly it (spam folder), so thanks. Stupid Gmail. I guess the default setting is that the spam folder isn't normally visible so I never even notice spam if I get any. Anyways, sick.

We ever get info on what exactly happened? I mean, he had been creating sticks for a couple years already with no problems when I ordered mine, which is why I thought it'd be safe.

Does anyone know if I can put a Crown stick( the one that attaches onto the Sanwa mount points) into the Sega Virtua Stick High Grade?

How easy is it to dual mod a PS3 Street Fighter x Tekken Pro Stick? What would be the best/get me the most consoles supported?

Easiest way would be to gut it and put a ps360+ in there. Probably the cheapest way, too.

Another way would be to get a Toodles imp, a 360 pad pcb (like from a madcatz SF pad, not the official 360 pads), and do wire that way.

When's the last time PS360+ got updated?

Anyone try the CronusMAX on the xb1? The KI stick is really nice but I have way too many 360/PS3 sticks to justify it. Plus I really want to keep using my VLX.

Do you mean firmware?

If that, then I dunno. I should probably check on that, haha.

If you mean with more pcb options, then there's one coming out soon with the XB1 pcb that requires minimal soldering:

http://focusattack.com/ (no direct link, but the product appears to be the banner on focusattack).

No word on ps4 hacking. I'm personally waiting for that to be easy/reliable so that I can get a stick modded for both all four consoles.

I haven't played vs. mode, but it works well enough solo. Good to practice with, but I can confirm it causes dropped inputs on the 360 for the second controller. Dunno if it's the same on XB1.

According to what I've read on srk and official forums it works fine.

I want one for the macros.

You can buy a cronusmax too. No work involved.

So I'm going to CEO this year to compete for the first time, and I'm concerned about playing with the stick in my lap after all these years of playing with it out in front of me on my living room ottoman. I've recently started playing on PC with the stick in my lap to get used to it, and my execution has really taken a hit. I'm using a Q4RAF with the felt bottom, so the stick sliding around isn't really the problem. It's just that the positioning and angle of the whole stick is so different from what I'm used to.

I'm just going to keep grinding it out in hopes that I'll be able to adjust, but does anyone have any tips?

Grab a small table/stand from Ikea? I think someone mentioned doing that in this thread somewhere, but not sure. You can always just sit on the ground and have your stick in front of you; I've seen a few people do that.

Got that Crown stick from MadCatz during the Final Round sale.

I really, REALLY like this thing. I'm not going to say I'm controlling any more accurately than I was with the JLF. But I definitely prefer how this feels.

Yeah, I ordered a crown for my modded r2 last weekend as well. At first I didn't like it but after inspection it looks like the springs weren't even touching the actuator in neutral. Works wonderfully after I rectified that.

Either sit on the floor or stack a couple of chairs in front of you, and rest the stick on the seat.

I switched in some cap covers since my game only uses three face button plus start.
I only ever had the balls to go 4 button but you're making me more ready than ever to make the plunge to 3. I wish it were easier to get replacement metal panels though - I'd rather go that route than plugs or plexi.

Only the truly hardcore use 3-button stetups...

All my sticks are 6-button...
I'm so casual :(

3 isn't too hard to deal with if you play shmups or stuff other than fighters...mapping it to a 360 controller was a bit of a pain though when I had to do it once. I think I did A, B, X.
brb making 1-button arcade stick specifically for mappy
Hell with the stick even, you only need one button for Star Trigon.

I've been practicing using an arcade stick for a while now, and while my execution has improved (I can even though consistent 360 command grabs from standing now), I'm struggling with two things mainly, Spinning Bird Kick motions, and dashing/back dashing.

UMVC3 is fine because I can hit two buttons to dash, but games that require double forward or back to dash just mess me up. I can't manage to do the motion quick enough, and when I do manage it I can't manage to do it consecutively.

I'm using the TVC Wii Stick on the PS3, and I'm not sure what mode it should be set on. I had it set on D-Pad, but tried left stick yesterday and that was alright too. Is there any difference between the two, and if so, what is the recommended mode?
