Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Has there been any sort of update on making old sticks work with the new console? Some kind of third party adapter?

The CronusMax is the only adapter I know of that can make other controllers work on PS4.

Toodles is apparently working on PS4 support for MC Cthulhu boards via firmware update, but it's still under development.

Count me in on getting that new stick MarkMan. Even if USF4 doesn't come out on PS4, I'm sure I'll make use of it at some point with my PS4.

Cool, I'd actually thought that the MC was done with development. Nice to see that they are still looking at future support. Was there a specific place that you heard that from?

A bunch of co-workers and I went to the Barcade near our office in Chelsea, Manhattan today.

Holy GOD, were the sticks bad there. I think they're either using ancient parts, or in some cases, shit clone parts. I've been so spoiled by good arcade equipment that going to an actual Arcade (or some facsimile of one) and using machines as they were was strange!

If they were in original cabinets, they were likely US/Euro parts from places like Suzo-Happ or IL, which are not what you find in sticks like the ones from MadCatz. They use either original Japanese parts from Sanwa, or clones thereof.

Apples - Oranges.

Preferring one over the other is definitely a personal choice. I can't stand US/Euro stuff, but I love Seimitsu sticks.

Ugh..

I picked up SSF4 on the steam sale. I had the same problem as few others: my SSF4 TE PS3 fight stick doesn't register any inputs. Well..shit. Okay, so I read that the newer sfxt sticks and pads should be plug and play, I order a SFxT Ps3 Fight pad from amazon. After waiting all week, it finally arrives today, I plug it in, and immediately notice there's a problem: whenever I press triangle and circle buttons simultaneously it temporarily freezes all inputs. Wtf? I went to game controller settings in win 7 and used the "test" function and visually confirmed that pressing the two buttons together even if just a light tap, registers those two buttons as being held down for about a two second duration, during which no other inputs or button presses will register. It works fine on my PS3, btw. Any ideas? I'm seriously about to give up on playing this shit on PC.

Yep, I've owned nearly every kind of part save Korean. I currently have a full Sanwa Astro Panel in an HSS-0130. Previously, I've built sticks with Happ and then IL buttons when I discovered how crappy modern Happ were.

The stuff in these machines were either very poorly cared for original Happ parts, or exceptionally bad / cheap re-creations. No click of any kind like you'd get with a well made IL stick with decent microswitches. Just mush. I'm not saying "Gosh, these original cabinets are different from my Madcatz!" I'm remarking here on the difference between actual arcade machines in an actual arcade vs. the well cared for "arcade parts" we all use nowadays.

Gotcha. And it is pretty amazing just how much fucking shit arcade cabs and parts get beat out of them over their life spans.

That sounds like my experience in Korea around a decade ago. I forget if they were ball or bat top or what, all I remember is that it seemed like there was nearly no spring tension at all to them. Couldn't rely on them to return to center on their own cause it'd be too slow, but also hard to get a feel for center (and relative directions besides pushing against the gate edge) because the weak spring too.

What's the Happ stuff like now btw? I made some sticks way back before they were bought by Suzo but I'm not sure I've played on any of their modern stuff.

They definitely cleaned the exteriors quite well, and the monitors are in great condition given their age. I think a lot of the ball-tops had been replaced, at the very least. Just a damn shame about everything else. But, hey, paying 25 cents and playing TMNT or Simpsons in this day and age is pretty cool, bad controls be damned.

Happ stuff is meh now. I think it's all Chinese made, and doesn't have the feel of quality that actual IL parts do.

True dat.

Where was this place by the way? I might stop by. Never knew there was a barcade in Chelsea.

>360

>PS3 & PS4

I am really glad Sony is allowing the use of dual-protocol boards for sticks/controllers. I think it should be the standard, considering how easy it is to implement PS3 code (i'd imagine)

i know what next stick to get :)

That's super tempting...does it work on PC? I've been rocking the madcatz TE on 360 with Cronus Max for Killer instinct but am thinking of trading up for either a TE2 or now...this. I wonder if the ps4 compatibility means I could use it on XBONE w Cronus Max ?

Or keep the Cronus Max and get a te2 to run on PS4 for that matter...

PS3 and PS4 is the news I was waiting for, I already have a 360 stick and I don't plan on buying a PS4 until Xrd. But I could use it for PS3 until then.

Has anybody here ordered a HitBox from HitBox Arcade, and if so, do you remember how long it took to ship? I ordered one a week ago and checked out through PayPal, but I haven't heard anything since the order confirmation. I know they're built to order, so I shouldn't be worried, but the FAQ on the site says that they generally ship within 1-3 days, so I don't know what to think.

Hi guys, there's a mad catz sale on four models of the ps3 and Xbox 360 fight sticks. They're going for $79.99 right now if anyone's interested.

10% off at Focus Attack this weekend for Curleh South.

Any thoughts about their silent JLF modkit? I wanted to buy this year's new silent JLFs, but spending $70 sounded a little unappetizing.

The MadCatz store ordering software is atrocious. It keeps rejecting my credit card and giving me javascript errors at every step.

Don't think about bringing ControllerMAX units to big tournaments anyways.

I forgot to check this thread, and since the announcement of the PS3/PS4 stick, I guess support for this might be dead...

But anyway, I don't know anything about the behind the scenes stuff. If I have a Qanba Q4 or a PS3 TE, does that mean I'm good? I really don't want to drop another 200 bucks on a stick...

I got one; I ordered one on a Thursday, it shipped on a Monday. I think I got it on a Thursday.

Thanks.

Sunday will be two weeks since I ordered mine. I emailed them last week, but haven't got a response. Don't know what I can do really. I just want my hitbox. :(

You mean for PS4 support? I don't know what Qanba plans to do but unless they say something you should assume your stick will not support more systems than it already does. If your TE is stock then it's definitely not going to be supported on PS4 unless Sony changes something on their end to specifically allow PS3 controllers to work. I imagine eventually there will be a PCB you can swap to in order to gain PS4 compatibility (by changing out all internal logic) if you would rather make your existing stick work vs buying a new one.

Is anyone interested in a Tekken 5 collectors edition stick? I still have one sitting in its box. I was thinking about modding it, but just recently modded my HRAP 3. Not sure if I should have brought it up here or in the sell/trade thread. Didn't think anyone would want to buy a stick there. :p

Oh, hey. Looks like XBO ditched the specific colored buttons requirement that the 360 had. Like 90% of the time PS3 version sticks looked better than the Xbox 360 versions of the same stick due to being able to have all the buttons match the stick theme and not have to have yellow, green, blue and red in it.

I think they also ditched it recently on the 360 because in the pictures of the new USF4 stick the 360 version doesn't have color buttons anymore.

I'll wait for Hori to make the Fighting Edge for PS4/X1....then I'll bite for a 8th gen stick...until then...the struggle remains real.

Same.

I got a case for my bday that I might just get wired for PS4, though. Hopefully that PS360+ update comes through before Xrd.

Because I cannot start a thread of my own, I'll post this here.

The new Hori Fighting Commander 4 is up for pre-order on play-asia.

Same features as 3, but works on both PS3 and PS4.

Just why did they have to keep the rotating d-pad? I went through 8 controllers because of that.

heads up for fightpad people

Here are the Hori prototypes for the Real Arcade Pro series from E3 via Arcade Shock's Facebook

Man, what happened to the super-sweet looking prototype they had last year? It loosely resembled a Fighting Edge without the backlit side buttons and had a carry handle. I was really hoping to hear more about that stick, I hope they haven't dropped the idea.

So my Recroom Masters 2 player panel for my Xtension cabinet arrived earlier today. Very well packed and easy to setup inside the Xtension cabinet. Could also be used by itself if one wished; you don't need the cabinet for it work.

It's beautiful. Really well-made, and looks amazing IMO. Mostly tried it with XB360 and a little MAME on my laptop. Everything seems to work well. Not tried it on PS3 yet but I'm sure it work fine there too.

The sticks are JLF's and feel as expected, smooth and very nice. However the buttons are... well, they're just really bad. Very stiff and hard to press - I knew they would not be Sanwa, but these are bad even for non-Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons. I will be buying a set of proper Sanwa buttons soon to replace them.

So for anyone who is interested in this panel, factor in the cost of replacing the buttons because you will absolutely want to change them out. Overall very pleased, aside from those awful buttons. Also note the price went up from $299 (that's what I paid) to $349, but they did say the $299 was an introductory price so it was expected. Shipping was about $24 (IIRC) and it weighs about 24 lbs.

That's too bad. I guess I'm out of fighting games for a while on next gen. I can almost understand that with wheels there's all these patents and whatnot, so no one wants to pay to write new drivers for them, but I can't understand why fightsticks haven't been supported.

No technical reason, it just makes more money this way.

ordered pink side panels and a blue bezel for the sega stick, maybe a yellow balltop would look good. or green.
