Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Do both Sanwa and Hori offer silent sticks and buttons? Tried a friend's setup and the mushyness was throwing me off. Trying to figure out which he had.

I believe they do, and there are also several third-party inserts that you can get and install into your Sanwas/Horis/Seimitsus.

Mines was set for delivery next Thursday from AMazon, but I'm going to be out of town for over a week. I changed the shipping to three to five business days and it bumped me back three weeks. O_o

Well, they used to put out Sanwa and Seimitsu sticks and still have several stick varieties so they can claim product diversity, but yeah, it's clear they went thru the trouble of developing their own parts to avoid that.

Was surprised to hear they're used in arcades now too, considering the mixed reviews.

Pretty much the last two post are why we'll probably never see a Hori stick without their own parts again, or at least in a very long time. I've never tried the new Hori parts so I'm very curious to see how much I'll like them. They really do seem hit and miss with the audience though. My cousin did buy a old HRAP3 with the old Hori parts and the buttons were complete shit. Even though my cousin is just a casual player, even he couldn't stand the feel of them and swapped them out for Sanwa parts as fast as he could. I'll just do the same if I'm not a fan of the Kuro buttons. I figure a stick is a stick so I probably won't mind the Hayabusa.

I'll bet we'll see a SA and SE RAP variants eventually. At least one for each console (SA for PS4 and SE for Xbone). It will probably stop there, and next gen Hori will start making VR headsets.

So I actually broke down and ended going back to the shop to buy the kai. Stick is a huge improvement. It's heavier, better compartment, has a touch pad and has some rubber felt at the bottom that makes it easier to hold on your lap.

wow...the stick is a lot quieter. buttons not so much.

The stick is optical, but the buttons just have soft landing pads. Personally, I'm not a fan of those pads, as they make the buttons feel mushy (and the Kuros are already mushy). But the optical Hayabusa is pretty sweet...

Just picked up this Beauty from the owner of Super Arcade in Walnut, Ca. Needs new buttons and stick (Mike gave me a new set of buttons), otherwise its pretty clean.

Oh. What a great thread to pop up. I have been meaning to ask around, is razer atrox for 360 a good arcade stick? It is the only I can find around my area.

I had one for a while and loved it. Looks and feels good. The interior is wonderful. Also looks fantastic with the art removed.

With that said, I like the te2 build better. Feels just slightly more solid to me. Both are great sticks though.

nice. more impressions please. i'm still pondering.

Compared to the original HRAP4, it definitely feels sturdier. They're roughly the same size - the kai is slightly shorter. I took some pics which I've linked it below. Sorry for the crappy pics... They were quick and dirty but I think they'll show the comparisons better. Overall, I think the HRAP4 gets a 7/10, while the Kai gets a solid 9/10.

Aww, does this mean that super arcade is going out of business for sure? They were MIA for a while.

Edit: does anyone know how to pad hack to dual mod with xbone? I'm looking at this kit but it has like extra addons that I have no idea what I need. My friend is prolific at soldering so that's not an issue. I just want to make it as easy as possible for him by researching.

Yep. Here's a video comparing the standard HRAP4 to the Midnight Blue silent version:

Thanks, I put that on in a room without any context and they looked creeped out too.

That's a relief. My Kai's on the way but I've been hesitant only due to having used the original RAPs which felt shaky and light. Wider cord slot looks like a nice improvement too.

Ordered on February 14 and shipped yesterday. Is on its way.

Thanks. I ordered on the 13th within a half hour of when it went up. Mine's not showing as gone into the shipping process yet with an estimate of Wed. I would have expected it to be one of the first shipped. I'm just trying to guess if Amazon bumped me after they changed shipping speed. What part of the country are you in if you don't mind? Perhaps the warehouse closest to you got it first.

Awesome. Thanks!

Nice to hear that the Kai is heavier. One of the most common complaints I hear about the V3/V4 HRAPs is their relatively light weight.

And in the end the VLX lasted longer than the week they originally expected, oh well, good for everyone I guess. Hopefully some people can still jump in.

Anyway I was watching some videos with Kuro buttons and they sound awful. Are there actual negatives for going for silent Sanwa buttons? They are just the 8 OBSFS-30 and a single OBSFS-24 right?

Personally, I ordered 8 black OBSF-30s from akishop.jp as well as 8 GamerFinger HBFS-30-G2s. I'll decide which I like more when they come in and order a second set. I don't recommend the silent versions if you are picky about how they feel. That said, the OBSFS-30s are probably still better than the Kuros.

I haven't bothered ordering a replacement for the 24mm start button because I figure, how often am I going to use it? If it bugs me, I'll order replacements.

You are right about the 24mm button, that's probably not worth it.
I had no idea about those GamerFinger buttons. Never heard of them, interesting how they came around.

They seem pretty expensive but the lifetime sounds promising and they definitely sound better from what I can tell.
