If i buy the Madcatz LED board and install it in a TE2 other than the KI version, how do i control if they are on or off?

On every XB1 TE2, there is a on/off switch on the top panel. On PS4, you have to unplug the cable that powers the board or else it will always be on.

BTW, I'm really digging the prototyping you are doing for the TE2 mods. Are you just using photoshop?

So no switch on the 360 versions? EDIT: Looks like not. Why would they only have that feature on XB1 models?

Thanks :) yep, just photoshop.

Hey Gaf, I was wondering, is it necessary to use a fight stick to play Street Fighter? Cause I am thinking of getting Street Fighter V when it does come out, but I don't want it to be a hassle. Getting a stick is on my list of things to buy, but it isn't the top priority right now (first is building a PC). I've only played Marvel VS Capcom twice and Street Fighter 4 in the arcades.

Also if I were to buy a stick, which one should I get (normal pricing in which I'm comfortable paying and will get a nicely built product)?

It's not necessary to get a stick at all. It is just a matter of preference.

If you decide to get one for SF5, the easiest choices are the HRAP 4 Kai for $150 or the Madcatz TE2 for $200. Both will work fine on PS4 and PC. The main differences are mainly in the parts (Hori uses their own parts, MCZ uses Sanwa). Also the HRAP has the PS4 touchpad.

Kk thanks for the heads up.

It's not necessary. For many players it is easier, but not all. Snake Eyez and Wolfkrone are both known players who use pads and are threats at majors.

SFV could end up pad-friendlier than SFIV to boot, though too early to tell because we don't know what OS's/heavy execution stuff end up in the game.

If you do go pad, I'd recommend heavily the Hori FC4. Works on W10/PS3/PS4, solid 6-button fighting game pad and quality all around. Runs about $50.

I use pad for KOF and stick for SF/VF myself.

Hori FC4 and other 6 face button pad players:

I am interested in one, but always wondering about one thing. How do you do a EX DP with Akuma?

I mean there are the bumpers for all kicks/all punches, but what if you want to JUST input 2 punches? Is it even possible to press 2 buttons in a row there?

Can I get some feeback on these options? All seem nicer than the red. Thinking the white version with black balltop...?

I like the first one, everything in black. Looks very slick and something we haven't seen so far in TE sticks.

Yes, I have to in KOF on occasion for CD attacks, and SDMs.

You don't need to buy a stick to play street fighter. You can play just fine with a normal DS4.

The 1.5lb spring might me more like a JLF, the 2lb is definitely stiffer overall.

Thanks. Missed this earlier. I'll probably get both to try. I just don't want anything crazy stiff like those old Happ bat-top arcade sticks. I got an old one custom modded before the TE's with Sanwas came out, and when I went back to try it, I couldn't believe how stiff it was.

It's nowhere near as stiff as those. There's a night and day difference between the Hayabusas with the 2lb springs we have in our cabinet versus the Happ sticks downstairs on the HF cabinet.

Hm, maybe I'll just the get the 2lb ones then. Kinda just want to bulk order everything at once since the shipping would be as much as the springs. Might get some extras for some Sanwa sticks in case I like them.

Just out of interest what do the pro players use for pads? Is it just a ds4 or xbone controller or something else? I have looked at the fight commander pads but the moveable dpad seems to be a weak point.
Whatever they like.
PSX pads, 360 pads, MadCatz pads... there's no "right" answer except what you like to use.

Wasn't looking for the one pad to rule them all, just wondered as some dpads don't really work that well with fighting games.

If you're referring to 360 pad, pretty sure fanatiq uses one for marvel 3. there's a number of guys in the VF community who use them too - rare entity in new york and bountyhunter in jersey (?)

Really, it's whatever you like.

I occasionally will use the 360 pad for VF if i'm too lazy to dig up the stick and it's not too bad, but it might depend on how comfortable you are with the game you're playing. I can do HD stuff in KoFXIII with an XBO pad. /shrug

The ds4 is what I prefer at the moment, a lot of the 3rd party pads seem to have poor build quality, with the exception of Hori. You never know reading this thread I may step up to a stick one day.

Okay cool. I've been using the DS3/DS4 for Tekken and Mortal Kombat, but those games were made with a controller layout in mind.

Kk thanks!

Yeah, it's really a preference thing, especially since the DS4 has a solid d-pad (unlike the 360 controller). I prefer MK on a pad but I play SF on a stick.

The guy who won EVO (the world's biggest SF tournament) last year used a PS1 pad, of all things.

yup, hori fc4
i bought a toggle switch to wire up to the ps3/ps4 toggle, but i havent put it in yet. i just left it in ps4 mode for now cuz it still works on ps3 (minus the home button)

SFxT stick showed up today! Now to get this set up for PS4 use and get some new art on it!

Gonna actually do it right with a switch and all now that I've gotten the MKX pad down and wire up the PS button as well.

Got my buttons and tension spring, but ball top still in transit... Still, with the buttons I can color correct part of the art and get that and a plexi ordered.

So psyched to put everything together.
