Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Love the form factor on these, what's the 8-min timeout thing?

The PS4 requires any and all connected controllers to authenticate with the system. If you don't the controller gets disconnected after 8 minutes and you have to reset its connection.

There are a few different boards that do this (this one, the PS360+, etc) that work but have the timeout, so you usually get a button combination to reset its connection quickly.

I picked up a Hori RAP4 recently, and I'm now thinking of modding it. Any guides or advice out there on where to start?

It depends on what you want to mod and for what reason. I'd leave the lever alone for now and maybe replace the buttons if you're not liking them. I personally replaced the buttons with Seimitsus and swapped in a 2lb spring to tighten the lever.

I was thinking of starting with replacing the buttons and maybe putting some artwork on the front? I imagine that button replacement would be fairly straightforward compared to getting some custom artwork.

So is the RAP4 pretty decent or should I just save up a bit more cash and get the Chun-Li TE2?

It doesn't matter to me much either way I just want something that I'm familiar with for when SFV comes out.

The RAP4 is a good stick and has served me well over the past year, though I know some people don't like the Kuro buttons. You can also preorder the new TE2+ which is the same price as the Chun Li TE2 and is supposed to come out the same day as SFV.

Well thats kinda the reason I dont wanna wait for the SFV sticks because I want to try and practice a bit before it comes out rather than get it on day one and try using a completely new control method

So, messing around with the hori stick, I do not understand why the kuro buttons get any kind of hate, they're fine. They feel a tad different, sure, but nothing to freak out over. The only thing that seems a bit odd to me is that the stick does feel a touch more loose.

has there been any word on if SFV is going to use that USB driver that would allow old fightsticks to work? I have a SFIV tournament stick and really dont feel like buying another stick when this one works perfectly.

I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the HRAP4 since it has the touchpad and it's cheaper http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Real-Arcade-Pro-PlayStation-4/dp/B00SULMRI4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451324706&sr=8-1&keywords=Hori+Real+Arcade+Pro+v4
Thats the B tier level stick on http://www.teyah.net/sticklag/results.html correct?

My main question is how hard is it to mod? I may want to change the buttons at some point but I know I'm going to want to switch the artwork for sure.

According to your link, that looks like the "F Tier" stick...
I don't think they make that stick in the "B Tier" anymore.

Yeah changing buttons is broccoli, but I think changing artwork is more involving. I think you need to rip off that big sticker on the metal plate, but probably better to check youtube.

Looks like they're selling plexis for that model at Art's Hobbies.

This is the B tier one. Kai is F tier as Justinh said.
And it doesn't have a touchpad, sadly.

Well there goes that plan. I wish we could get some sort of confirmation about what the touchpad actually does in SFV, but in all honesty I doubt I'll ever reach any sort of extreme high level play so does the input lag on the kai really matter in the grand scheme of things?

Within the SFV beta the touchpad doesn't even register as a button on any menu, nor could I map an attack button to it. This doesn't mean it won't be used (the beta has some functions very limited) but it might actually not be used, after all.

Of course, I prefer to have at least the touchpad button available in the event a game needs it.

The only thing the touchpad is likely to do is function as a "select" button. If there's a trial mode, it'll swap the combo out to show the inputs instead of names. In training mode it will quickly reset your position.

You're not likely to notice the input lag on a stick. Other sticks have had similar input lag according to Teyah's results and people won/placed/did well at majors and EVO with them.

I would not consider the teyah.net grades to be definitive, honestly. I've heard a lot of people disagree with those stats, and I haven't heard any input lag complaints from people who own the RAP 4 Kai.

The RAP 4 Kai is fine. It's a great deal for the price.

I haven't been to the SRK forums in years, but yeah from what I remember whenever someone brought up the Teyah site it was like a "groaner" moment.
Hori makes good sticks.

Get an aluminum one. They're heavy, but to the point where, if you're attaching it to a JLF or Hayabusa, you might want to get a stiffer spring.

Thanks, I'll look it up. Would the stick weight and spring mean that I'd have to consider the actual weight of the body of the stick itself, or would it not likely be a problem?

(As in, would I have to purchase a fairly heavy body to offset the weight of the joystick, in case it moved unnecessarily?)

I'm looking at this so far: http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/Sanwa-JLW-UM-8-Joystick-With-Aluminium-Bat-Top.html

I just got the Hori RAP4 Kai for Christmas,

Here's what I can confirm:
It's a very good, solid stick. Very responsive, very sensitive. I like the size and weight.
The buttons are just fine and quite sensitive with very little throw, I don't feel compelled to replace them anytime soon.
Nice build quality outside of the cord bay door, though the cord bay is very spacious and the cord is a good length.
The Kai DOES have a touch pad as well as a turbo switch and the ps4/ps3 toggle, share button, home button, etc.
The Options button placement was a concern before I used it, but it's actually a godsend. It's incredibly convenient yet also pretty darn hard to hit accidentally. If that is still a concern, there's also a switch to disable it.
Huge rubber pads cover most of the bottom.
Overhanging plastic on the sides prevents the side buttons from being pressed accidentally while also doubling as convenient carrying handles.

Overall a slick, comfortable, fully-featured stick with tournament-standard resposiveness. I've read the buttons are pretty easy to swap if nothing else, but again, the Kuros seem just fine to me. I know it's all preference.

This is a great stick for $150 (or less if you see a deal) and absolutely the best for sub $200, I'm sure. I would even wager it'll be just as good as MadCatz upcoming SFV sticks despite being cheaper.

There is one small caveat that will affect some people. but there is a pretty easy work around for party chat. Basically, there's no headphones jack. If you are using a dedicated wireless or usb headset then this won't matter, but it you are used to using the headphones jack on the DS4 for your mic then you won't be able to talk to randos in lobbies. However, if you just want to party chat simply log in on a DS4 under a different profile and join your friends' party, then switch back over to the profile you're using the stick under and you can talk with your buddies.

No, just the weight of the top. The problem going to just a aluminum top is that they're far heavier than the standard plastic ones, so the lever doesn't return to and stay center very well on its own. If you put one into a stock Seimitsu LS-40, for instance, it comes out "just right" to me because the LS-40 already has a really stiff spring in it. You end up with a looser throw, but a really good balance, IMO.

You don't need to replace the entire stick, just the spring.

I'm thinking about getting one of those magic stick m5's off eBay for $190, but should I just spend the extra $10 for the madcatz one? The only reason I'm conflicted is that I want the stick before sf5 comes out.

Friend of mine is selling an HRAP SA.

I want it, but I don't need a PS2 stick. :/

Hard to justify spending money on something I know I won't use much.

So I just got my replacement TE2 plexi in the mail from Mad Catz Customer Support, and it's the newer one that Markman has been talking about for all future TE2's moving forward. I must say, this is much nicer than the one that came with my stick a year ago. It's easily twice as thick and much more rigid. Great stuff.

The extra thickness makes it stand up a bit higher relative to the buttons than what is typical, but that's far outweighed by the higher quality of the new plexi. It doesn't slide around at all, unlike the original.

Thanks Markman for reaching out to the support team for me after my replacement order had been inexplicably delayed.

dont hate, its based on a Vewlix C, the shiny foil looks better in person. and it with red buttons is the way to go.

It does look a lot better with those red buttons, but still not my favorite color scheme.

Glad I'm not trying to collect all the VLX or I'd have to get this one, too.

Has anyone here modded a Hori Hayabusa with new microswitches? I need a silent stick, but I'm not sure how difficult it is to change the microswitches. The silent jlf is on sale atm, but I'd rather keep using the hayabusa if the mod isn't too hard.

From what I've heard, swapping out the microswitches on the Hayabusa shouldn't be that hard. You can even mix & match microswitches if you so choose.

Paging MarkMan!

I got a first run TE2 for PS4 that had the moisture under the plexi due to sitting in a warehouse because of some kind of mail strike. I didnt mind at the time, but now I want to replace it. If I buy a plexi from Madcatz is there anyway for them to send me a replacement art sheet with it?

*LIGHTS MARKMAN SIGNAL*

I could also use a replacement plexi for my TE2.

I'm kind of doubtful about replacement art since the stock TE2 art is stuck on there, but I just had a replacement plexi sent to me from Mad Catz for the same reason (it came with moisture underneath and visible scuffs all over it). That being said, I had to get Markman involved because Mad Catz had just shelved my request for months for seemingly no reason.

The new plexi is much better, though. Twice as thick and doesn't slide around.

I'm really really sorry about the delay. I'm glad our team got in touch with you and resolved your issue.
