Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Just got my first stick yesterday, the Hori Mini 4.
It's pretty fun for me to play with an arcade stick. Also it's much easier for me to get some moves more consistent in SFV.
The Hori Mini is a bit too small for my taste, but as a second stick when I have friends over it's okay.

Also a Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai is on the way, can't wait to get my hands onto that one.

I am still rocking my HRAP3 stick modded with Sanwa buttons, using it with PC without issues and in all the PS4 game with legacy support.
If there any reasons to buy a new stick? I was casually browsing fighting sticks looking for an excuse to get a new one but are the HRAP4 non modded or the qanba obsidian vastly superior? do I need any of these?

HRAP4 does not use sanwa sticks or buttons, no. If you don't want a new stick and your current one works then no, there is no pressing need to upgrade.

Etokki has the Taeyoung Fanta lever for pre-order.

Can anyone give me a good comparison between the Taeyoung, the Myoungshin and more recent Crown models like the 309 HelpMe?

Mail came in today. Crown 309MJ with the newer Crown buttons with Futaba keyboard switches:

Gonna keep it bat top btw, just wanted the Balltop shaft just in case.

Arcade shock just posted these. The fightingedge is fucking bought the SECOND it is available.

WTF. Why can't I buy this now?

They've been teasing a new fighting edge since last year.

I was sleeping on the Hayabusa Optical stick..
Are these things never going to be available again?

Pre-orders for them are up at Arcade Shock:

i'd like to thank tomwhite2004 for tipping me off to this stick being in stock.

I just got from moving lions, elephants, rhinos and giraffe around.

Going to wash up, eat and take more pictures

Didn't realize they were showing these at E3...I'll check it out tomorrow! I did bring out my original FE for Tekken 7, but I found I wasn't used to the feel of the Kuro buttons and Hayabusa stick. I want to keep that one stock, but I'll probably mod up the new FE for regular use.

Brook putting out a PS2->PS3/4 converter! This is gonna be awesome for old game events that we run locally. Only $30 too! Had to happen just after we did a CVS2 tourney at our last event two days ago too, haha.

I just read this post today and in my mind I was hearing this theme song. I just hope I can use a modern DualShock 4 to play all of my PS2 favorites or even allow wireless communication like the Yellow Brook adapter I use on PS3.

I nabbed the PS4/PC Hori Tekken 7 stick today. I like it a lot, definitely more than the Chun Li TE2 I had previously (sold when I saw the value had jumped on it).

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the buttons as they're just too plasticky and loud for me. Ordered some black/gray Sanwa Denshi Silent buttons to swap in and make it perfect. :D

I can't seem to figure out how to make the Etokki Omni use the front row of buttons. It has 4 of them and 3 of them don't do anything in SFV.

omni_ps4_kr_back-500x500.png

Only the Options/Start button works.
I really need to be able to reset the training mode positions and such in SFV to train effectively.

How do I perform these tasks with this arcade stick?
I tried the "Emulate function" on this page and it is completely useless. All I succeeded in doing was making the lever act as the right analogue stick which of course does absolutely nothing.

How does the stick feel? I've been looking at one of these for a while now. I could always use another stick.

Yes I know I have a problem.
Very stiff, it will take some getting used to for sure. The omni itself is solidly built although I do wish it had a cable compartment of some sort and also that it had a bit more wrist space.
Also I'm currently having the aforementioned front row buttons problem.

Share works on my Omni stick. Have you updated your firmware? I don't think SFV has touchpad functionality, so it might just be SFV instead of the stick.

Yeah I updated the firmware and it said it was successful.

Are you on PC? Because I am.

None of the the front row buttons except the options/start one do anything in SFV nor can I configure them to do anything it seems.

Weirder yet, I just tried to play KoFXIV on Steam and it was an even bigger disaster.
I get to choose keyboard or controller input but that's about where the logic ends.

The touchpad button makes me go left, the home button makes me duck, the options/start button does LP+LK and the share/select button makes my training dummy kick and also record an action it seems.
As for the face buttons, RB/R1 and LB/L1 do nothing, RT/R2 makes both me and the training dummy kick and also makes it record an action and LT/L2 brings up the pause/settings menu.

I got the Sanwa Denshi Silent buttons swapped into my Hori Tekken 7 stick. Super happy with it now. Feels, and especially sounds, so much better.

So I've got an old Madcatz TE stick for my 360 that I used to use with SFIV and UMvC3, but I'm interested in picking up DragonBall Fighters for my Xbox One. Are there any ways to convert my 360 stick to work on the Xbone, or do I need to shell out for a new stick?

By a brooks converter. I'm on mobile so can't link. Just google arcade shock brook converter.

I'm sure it's been linked somewhere in this thread.

Here are a couple options. I like Focus Attack, personally.

headset port for the T7 stick seems stuck at max volume? blows my fuckin ears out and i can't use it. no problems using headset with a pad. the volume settings which appear on the console when the headset is plugged into a pad does not appear when it is plugged into the hori stick.

Awesome, thanks! I'm also making some custom art for my stick, and I'm not sure what to go with. So far I've got these three ideas, though I'm still coming up with more stuff.

The Hori Tekken 7 stick is starting to be in stock in mainland EU...

Finally!

So now that all options are available:

- Madcatz TES+ at 200,-
- Razer Panthera at 239,-
- Hori Tekken 7 at 179,-

Which is the best option?

Do not buy the Macatz. I would straight avoid it at all costs due to MCZ not being around while the boards have a reputation to fail in their last lines of sticks.

If you really want Sanwa parts, the Razer has them stock. The new Razers seem much improved over their X360 counterparts, but they are still new-ish so who knows. I wouldn't be too worried about getting one as I've seen them around locally without issue.

Hori is Hori. Uses Hori parts, tend to be reliable, nice case on the Tekken ones. Hori's parts are fine these days, diff than Sanwa but comparable quality.

I'd feel pretty good with the Razer or the Hori personally. At that point it comes down to budget and preference. I have trust issues with Razer myself so I might go Hori.

That's a very helpful answer, thanks

Is it hard for a noob to switch out buttons on the T7 stick?

Is it hard for a noob to switch out buttons on the T7 stick?

It's pretty simple. All you need to know is how to use a screwdriver and how to snap on/off quick disconnects.

Pull off bottom panel after you unscrew it
Pull the quick connect tabs off the button you wanna replace. Don't need tools, can just pull off with your fingers :p
pop out the button, they are held in by plastic tabs on the side
pop in new one
reattach the quick connect wires
Repeat for all the buttons you wanna replace

Replacing a joystick is easy too. Just unscrew it from the mount and pop in the new one. Only has one harness connecting the thing :p

About a bajillion youtube tutorials exist for this if you wanna look one up yourself. I haven't looked in a bit myself or else I'd just link you one :v. For the T7 stick in particular it shouldn't too hard at all. Only thing is iirc there are some awkward button spots that you might need the help of a flathead to reach the tabs :p

Awesome, thanks a lot. Will check out youtube when it's time, I'm guessing it's this easy for all modern sticks then. Thought the Hori might not be as easy as the other brands. I've heard some complaints about the buttons on the Hori's, so would be nice to be able to swap them out in due time.

Is it hard for a noob to switch out buttons on the T7 stick?

Nope. Just take the screws off the bottom to remove the metal plate, then each button has two wires that just slide on and off the prongs, and then tabs ont he side to push in (flathead screwdriver helps here and they're stiff and some are hard to get to to pinch yourself) and push the buttons out the front and pop the new one in from the front. Do them one at a time so you don't mix up wires.

Sorry for the noob question, guys. I just bought a Brooks universal fight board, what's the best way to secure it in my XB360 Hori VX SA kai?

The fightingedge is fucking bought the SECOND it is available.

Is there an update for this? I can't find the source for this image.

Also, did they totally get rid of the touch panel and edge lighting? The original Fighting Edge didn't have those physical buttons on the corners either.

Help me arcade stick GAF, my wife said she can't not deal with my RAP3 fighting stick clicking sounds anymore, what are my options here?
Is this Hori Real Arcade Pro.v Silent Hayabusa good and actually silent? what other options do I have? :(

I've been waiting for this for years. I still got my PS2 hooked up to my TV with a big stack of fighting games right next to it. I've never been able to find a good arcade stick for the system, though. I bought a Mayflash to mess around, but I really wanted to use my Hori to get it in. Now I can.

I recently fried a brook UFB while modding a stick. I wired the voltage and ground wrong in making an aviation USB cable. I brought a new UFB, fixed the aviation usb cable and took care of that stick quickly. So I tried to fix the damaged UFB, which only suffered a fried 662K chip. Those chips were easy to buy for $1 for 20 chips. It took a minute to solder the new chip. Now it's fully functional.

Damaged 662K Chip:

New 662K Chips

Fixed UFB with new 662K

I'm not sure what to do with it at this point since I have 6 of them in sticks already. Just sharing some repair information right now.

You can just get some Silent Sanwa parts and install them. Hell, if you could just find Sanwa silencer pads you could throw those in. If you need the stick to be silent too I guess you can grab a silent JLF. It's expensive though.

https://arcadeshock.com/collections...prg-8byt-sk-3rd-gen-silent-stick-high-tension

https://arcadeshock.com/collections/sanwa-denshi/products/sanwa-denshi-silent-pads

https://arcadeshock.com/collections...hi-button-30mm-solid-color-silent-obsfs-30-xx

They still make noise though. IT's a softer thud rather than a loud click. If somebody is in the same room as you, they can hear it still for sure. It's a lot harder to hear through walls and stuff though. The silent stick itself is pretty quiet though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui2z5T_ADXo If you have softer button presses it's less noticeable I guess.

The silent parts feel a bit different, but it doesn't affect performance. If you really want a whole new stick, sure, grab a silent 4 Kai or something.

Like Anne said, there's the silent Sanwa parts, but you might want to look at a white noise machine instead.

I can vouch for the silent Sanwa Denshi buttons being WAY quieter than the clicky ass Hayabusa buttons that came in the Hori Tekken T7 stick (not sure how those compare to HRAP 3 buttons).

They're not silent by any means, but you're not going to have someone annoyed by them on them a room or two away. If you're playing a ways away from your wife, maybe try those and see if she is bothered still. Stick noise tends to be not as loud, and as noted above, silent sticks are pricey. So I'd try replacing buttons first and see if the stick noise is still a problem.

All moot if you're in the same room, or very close together rooms though as the "silent" buttons are still far from silent.

I basically share a wall with somebody, and the Silent Sanwas are quiet enough to not bother them anymore. It's really just not the best solution still for playing in the same room with somebody I'd say.

At the very least the silencers are cheap enough to give a shot.

Initial reports on the ArcadeForge Hitbox:

The stick is very light but seems relatively solid nonetheless. The plexi is especially thick and doesn't flex when I press down hard on the buttons. The bottom aluminium plate seems to be a lot thinner but I don't foresee denting it with regular use. The lightness of the stick and the smooth aluminium bottom might make it a bit more slipperly than some would like.

I also have to note the finish. It's not very good.

I might have to look into sanding/filing it down a bit.
Having sharp/serrated aluminium and plexy near my wrists is not something I find enjoyable

Just completed my first mod- putting a 2lb spring in my Hori RAP4. Went smoothly and inputs feel much better.

Next, I'm going to change the buttons. I eventually want to change the artwork as well, but apparently that's a harder task on the RAP4.
