Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

A little late to the party but I'd like to toss my name in the hat of people that are aching for some smash action lately. My options for local co-op have dwindled to the point of almost being non-existent. I do need to preface with a few things though

- never played smash online. Can you play wi-fi through the wii u or do I need to hook up my wii again (for project m and normal brawl?)
- dolphin isn't an option as I've never used an emulator and would have no idea to go about doing that on my laptop
- I am incredibly rusty.

If you are willing to grant some answers and patience I would love to play some smash with any of you guys! (I have no idea what my nintendo id is for the wii but can look it up, but my tag on miiverse/wii u is - JediKnightLink)

you let your dreams get the best of you and complained about how "bad" this update was. It's a part of the stage that hasn't been seen before. It may not be the most interesting thing ever but it's hardly worth the tears.

That and Lucario was revealed pretty recently.

"Tears". Give me a break. I'm more reacting to the fact I'm suddenly considered scum by some people for going "Hey, I agree this update was boring and I had a funny dream relating to it." And we saw the Nintendog and the TV at 1:00 of the very first trailer. True, we did not see the Nintendog WATCHING the TV, but I think that was a reasonable jump in logic for most people.

I wasn't even complaining that much, it's a cute element of the stage, but a weak update on a game we're starved for information about, that's all. And don't act like a chunk of the thread hadn't already expressed a similar opinion:

Meh, at least it's not a Wii U shot I guess
wow, such nothing
Gee t-thanks Sakurai
Useless pic.
Despite the fact it's nothing, I believe this is the first time we've seen this stage since last year's E3 trailer.

Ok........

So don't single me out, and others shouldn't use me as some platform to make statements about "haters" and the "horrible fanbase".

I'm more than done with this subject now. Forget I tried to interact with this thread on a dead day.

fanboys gonna fanboy, just ignore it

Guys, I think it's supposed to be a joke, not depressing. Cause he's programming a bored dog watching TV in the background of a level. :P
Yeah, it's pretty clearly supposed to be a joke. It's not some sort of existential crisis, he's just making light of the goofy incidental stuff he puts in every Smash game.

Well, off to buy a SD Card/Adapter for Project M.

A few questions though:

* I see there's a WiFi Version, and a non-WiFi Version, but the former cuts out various features. I don't have any people who play games near me, is there a decent challenge to be had fighting CPU players in Project M.

* Can I download additional costumes/music made by other people, and import it into Project M, or is that impossible?

* For other Brawl Mods, I'd need a separate SD Card for each mod, right?

Hi, my Brawl friend codes is 1679-2041-2183. If you give me yours we can add each other maybe get some online matches. I'm on the west coast. I play wi-fi through my Wii U with Brawl and Mario Kart. I don't play PM that much.

You'd best play on walk-off stages. AI LOVES to suicide. But yes, it provides a pretty nice challenge on LV9

Yup, you can use other costumes/music/staged

Seperate SD cards indeed are the easiest solution.

Since we're approaching a likely character reveal later this week, let's talk Donkey Kong. I'm probably in the minority, but would anyone else like to see Sakurai take another stab at the Diddy and Dixie tag team character?

Pros
  • Tag team gameplay is a staple of the DKC series, and it makes sense to represent the mechanic in Smash Bros.
  • Donkey Kong Country 2 is widely considered to be the best game in the series
  • Diddy and Dixie are boyfriend/girlfriend, so it makes sense that they would fight together

Cons
  • Diddy Kong is a popular character in his own right, and he's made plenty of appearances without Dixie
  • Diddy appeared in Brawl as a solo character, and fans of that incarnation would be angry with such a drastic change

Diddy's Monkey Flip and Banana Peel special moves seemed hastily added into Brawl (they're not inspired by anything that Diddy actually does), so I wouldn't mind seeing them replaced with a move that throws Dixie forward and a tag move that swaps between the two characters, respectively. I have an almost irrational love for unconventional/gimmicky characters like Olimar and Rosalina.

I'd only be for a tag team if they worked as they do in the DKC games i.e you control one at a time and can flip between the two and their tag team move is you pickup the other one and toss them. This could be an Up B attack as it could attack as a recovery move and like Ice Climbers would be hindered if your partner is knocked out.

Eh, nah. Let them be their own characters. I was pretty impressed with how different they made Wolf in Brawl from Fox, so I'm sure Sakurai can do the same for Dixie.

Does that mean I'd get to play as Fox and choose to romance one of my crewmembers? Because I would play that game.

Especially if Wolf was one of my crewmembers...

Are you a closet yaoi fan? :O

Pretty much how I saw it, lol

Don't worry
Do you see where are you posting?
Stupidity and senseless discussion took over this thread long time ago.
That's why I don't post as much as I used to.

Wow. I literally thought "Hey this would be a funny story since lots of people were let down by Sakurai taking a screenshot of the background dog", and now I'm being demonized.

Whoa, I wasn't even talking about you or dare to pin it in you. I'm talking about Smash fans on the Internet if you saw their messages about updates today. I know most of the people are lurking around our threads, so I figured that I could share the quotes with the public. Once again, it has nothing to do with your message.

I guess the tone of joke got lost in translation. I'm relieved if that's so.

Someone did and nobody noticed except me, I even posted a pic and people still didnt notice why I posted the pic.
I don't see what more people want out of an update. I mean, isn't Ridley enough for them?

(Oh yeah, just to clarify, that's the pic the user I quoted quoted before. I didn't make it or anything.)

The AI for PM is a lot better than vanilla brawl and they input buttons like it's a fucking TSA. It's not difficult persay, but it's definitely as close as you get to human and they do shit that you wouldn't think you could do with buttons.

At level 9 that is.

For the versions just get the full version and you can swap out whenever you want. They tell you which to switch in the pf folder for PM.

The Launcher for PM will support switching between Full and Wifi soon anyway so I guess just play Wifi if you're gonna play wifi.

I'm not a fan of the Diddy/Dixie teamup idea. I think it kind of cheapens both of them when they both absolutely deserve to be in Smash Bros. of their own accord.

I never knew why people disliked Kiddy so much. I mean, DK is a much better design - no contest there, but Kiddy was a ton of fun to play with. Rolling him, the water skip, throwing him around...

Kiddy was tons of fun to play as but his design was hot, steamy garbage.

Honestly, I would be fine with whatever Sakurai decided to do with the characters. I'm very curious about Sakurai's original plans for Diddy and Dixie moveset. At same time, I really enjoy his brawl's moveset as well. I wish that his taunts would come from DKC instead of monkey behaviors; such as ball jugging, etc.

this fucking thread

Yeah, it can be unbearable sometime for me. (No offense to anyone). I would appreciate it more if people don't have to attack people for their opinions or stories. If they don't like the pictures then let them be. It's more civilized that way if we show good amount of respects to each other, and learn how to coexist in a huge community instead of muddying the thread. It's okay to disagreeing with other people's opinions and discussing about it; at long everyone are being civilized about it.

I downloaded project M last night and am really enjoying it though it makes me crave smash 4 ever more lol

I used a mod to give Ganondorf an option to switch to a sword style which I like a lot more. I wish project m had more fun stages and less competitive style stages. I know there are mods to add/change stages but I can't find enough good brawl mod stages to add, and I can't figure out how to revert certain stages back into their classic style IE make Wario Ware have microgames again

If you wanna try mine, I added Poke Floats and a ton of different music and textures.

If you want to fix some stages, you'd need to delete the .rel file and the .pac file that they used for Wario Ware to bring back all the crazy stuff.

Keep Fire Emblem the same because it's in the gecko code but for a good amount of stages, you can do that and bring it back to the Vanilla Brawl stage.

ehehe

But I do kinda see other char on the oficial pic

Also, didn't we do this TV speculation song-and-dance back when the game was first revealed? Could've sworn the conclusion we came to back then was that it was the US commercial for the N64 game. Still kinda looks it. Surprised it hasn't come up as a possibility in this new go-around.

(Also, speaking as a fan of the show, that Rainbow Dash Captain Falcon is highly bizarre. Who in their right mind would do that?)

But it is probably just my mind seeing Ness on the TV

I find it hilarious people feel ENTITLED to updates and that Sakurai can't have fun with these things.

I demand character and stage updates every day, until they run out.. then there will be nothing interesting at all for months before the game releases...

...and that's why it can't work like that.

Is that the pokefloats 2 I've seen on youtube or a melee version? Either way I'd be down to replace Castlevania stage with almost anything else. I like Castlevania but why is that in an "official" mod release? So if I simply delete the wario ware stage file the game will still play the same and have classic wario ware stage?

As a fan of DKC3 I never really got the Kiddy Kong hate.

Though obviously I was always player one so I played as Dixie.

His playstyle/conceit was very similar to DK as well, meaning he needlessly replaced DK, who had been playable in only ONE of the games in the trilogy that was named after him
Meh, I can understand why they made Kiddy--they wanted to do a game starring Dixie, not something I'm opposed to. But you couldn't have Donkey Kong playable and not have it starring him, so they had to replace him with something. But a baby gorilla... eh...

It's more that there's less evidence that he's not coming back.

Based on what Sakurai has talked about and what we've seen so far, I wouldn't assume anyone is getting cut unless we explicitly hear otherwise.

Why would you even think that he won't be back? There's no reason to believe that he'll be cut.

I dunno, I assumed riddley was going to replace him. Seriously though, its more of a gut instinct than anything and also wasn't there talk about limited amount of characters since the 3ds wiiu version would have the same pool of characters?

Sakurai created the Kirby games, you really think he'd remove a character from his own series?

Is that how they decide who gets cut lol?

Yea metaknight is pretty much a shoe in. Sakurai's baby and on top of that he is too important a character to the franchise to be cut. He will be the 3rd and final kirby rep.
