Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Lucina isn't pretty enough to be Marth's alt.

Those aren't actually different characters, though, just alternate costumes made to look like other characters, and only with texture changes; no model changes at all. Marth could possibly get a Lucina inspired costume (though I doubt it, since their outfits are pretty much the same color...), but you're not going to see a Lucina model as an alternate costume for Marth.

those are alt colors, not alt costumes becoming an another character. peach is still peach but with diasy's color scheme, dark link and dark pit (who didnt exist back then) are literally just shadow versions of the characters.

marth turning into lucina is completely different

Yes, but obviously there's already grounds for alternate costumes being shoutouts to other characters. It's not too far-fetched to believe that we might get actually different models as alt costumes, given that we are going to get Male Wii Fit Trainer, and had the 2 different Warios as well.

There's currently no evidence that speaks against alt costumes being different characters, so stating "They're not going to make alt costumes be different characters" as if it was a fact is a fallacy.

but you're not going to see a Lucina model as an alternate costume for Marth.

Give me a link to an interview where Sakurai outright said that, or stop treating your speculation like a fact.

I see no reason why Female AC Village couldn't at least be a costume option, but I figure they would have shown that by now.

Are Paluenta and Lucina that likely? I didn't play Kid Icarus, but I guess if Sakurai worked on it I can see him wanting another rep from it. Lucina is Fire Emblem? Yeah I could see a new character being added, but I haven't gotten very far so I have no clue who are the likely suspects.
If not Lucina, most likely Chrom if they do pull from that game.
incoming too many lords / too many blue characters complaints

Nothing the modding community couldn't fix
No, we need Sakurai himself to acknowledge these characters. Its the only way we win.

Two F-Zero games on one home console seems a little excessive.

lol Welp, cased closed.

nah, Sakurai only teased us with a pic of the Wii Fit Trainers. He has not formally revealed anything in regards alt costumes so there is a chance. Hell, it could even be more extensive than we one thought (lol not likely tho)

From my understanding, Palutena is very popular and so is Lucina in terms of Awakening character, iirc, but the latter is similar in design to Marth in looks so her chances are still kinda iffy.

Damn right. It's called the Captain Falcon beat 'em up that is the spiritual successor to God Hand, developed by Platinum Games.

A spin-off, no matter how good it was, would get shit on by deprived F-Zero fans if it was released before a true sequel. Some people even tried to spin the Captain Falcon mini-game in Nintendo Land as a bad thing.

Instead of Wonder Red or the Wonderful Ones, it makes more sense to use Platinum Robo as the rep if you want to use every single Unite Morph.

Recovery options are Unite Rocket and Unite Whip. Unite Sword able to be used as a reflector. Unite Gun for Grabs.

Or have the original Wonder Red and have UNITE DRILL! Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann shit right there.
俺を誰だと思ってやがる?!Who the hell do you think I am?!

Replace Lucina with Robin or Anna and you've got something.

Gimme Kjelle and he washboard abs. Severa for her Snark and Bark Society. Noire for her inner demons. Owain for his sword hand. Perfect Fire Emblem reps.

Even outside the list I posted there are multiple female characters that could see representation - Daisy, Krystal, Tharja/Anna, Toon Zelda/Tetra (*shudders*), SS/OoT Impa, Pauline, Medusa, female Pokemon Trainer, Birdo...

Ok, I'll stop.

Alternate universe where Joanna Dark & Gruntilda are options

Okay, yeah, you're right, it's never been stated, and I suppose anything's possible, but there's not really any reason to believe it would happen. It's never happened in the history of Smash Bros. so far, so why now? The only alternate models that we've had in the series so far are alternate version of the same character (overalls Wario, male Wii Fit Trainer), and I imagine it will most likely stay that way. Having different characters as alternate costumes for characters would be weird and confusing, anyway, and I don't think that's something Sakurai would add to the game. Maybe more alternate costumes for different versions of a the same character like female Villager or female Pokémon Trainer, but that's it.

Imagine if we got:

1. WFT Trainer
2. Female Villager Alt.
3. Dixie
4. Paluenta
5. Rosalina
6. Lucina

All in the same game? Would go some way in addressing the gender balance 'concerns'.

Sakurai is already actively addressing the female balance problems, to the point where he's pointed out, expect 2 or 3 more females announced not counting vets imo.

I think Sakurai is definitely taking the gender balance into account in creating Smash 4. Hell, we've already got two of those gals confirmed as playable, one all-but confirmed (Palutena) and two more as strong possibilities (Female Villager and Dixie).
Still hoping that SS Impa replaces Sheik this time around.

I think most feel the Male/Female alts for the same character is probably the way Sakurai will go. Imo, if having a different character as an alt is the only way to get a great character in then they should go for it.

Thanks for the info guys.

I didn't even know about that male Wii Fit trainer picture. Looked up the miiverse post just now.

So he's in the game in some form, either assist trophy/wii fit item/costume I guess. That would open up an awesome door with costumes if they could be entire reskins. And if they do add a Mii character, then we could 'reskin' that to be whatever we want.

Thankfully, all of the characters on #TeamWaifu's wish list aren't great characters.

While it's true we don't have a full confirmation, given the fact they both are doing the same pose, it's pretty obvious that Male Trainer is going to be an alt.

Best underdog female candidate:

I wonder if we'll see any Mega Pokemon as standalone PokeBall Pokemon.

Although I imagine, like with Brawl Gen IV Pokemon, Generation VI won't see much representation outside the pre-release Pokemon like Xerneas.

Anna will be hidden in Marth's slot alongside Lucina, Roy, Lethe, and Gharnef.

In reality there could be time constraints that could effect the roster again so I would be ok with having a few character alts if it came down to it.

Monita can't be in the game, it'll be taking away slots from more deserving characters.

Yeah, like Captain Rainbow or Stork!

I know you might be joking, but, if not, I don't think it helps to call people who want a more balanced gender representation in Smash "Team Waifu".

I would honestly take a half-assed clone over making them an alt. I mean, what does it say about Lucina if she's only an alt costume in a game franchise that throughout it's history has featured Green Mario, Evil Mario, Dr. Mario and Regular-Ass Mario?

I know you might be joking, but, if not, I don't think it helps to call people who want a more balanced gender representation in Smash "Team Waifu".

Considering how many of the people who support more female characters seem to just want them because of traditional creepy otaku reasons and only use "gender equality" as a cover, I feel I'm justified in calling them that.

Yeah, like Captain Rainbow or Stork!

If you're talking about the stork from Yoshi's Island, I'd love to hear what a potential moveset could be =)

A: Flap
B: Flap
B-up: Flap harder
B-down: Drop Baby Mario
B-side: Disregard Baby Mario

Final Smash: Seriously, disregard the baby. Who cares? You're a stork!

IMO, if having a different character as an alt is the only way to get a great character in then someone isn't doing their job.

I'd rather take a character as an alt costume (or as a clone) than not have that character at all. This is especially true for characters that are too similar to already existing characters - Dr. Mario is a great character, but I don't think he should be on the roster as his own character. Making him an alt costume however would be perfect, and would require a minimal use of resources in order to change up the models and some of the particles (e.g. megavitamin instead of fireball, the lightning effects he had in Melee instead of Mario's regular fiery ones, etc.).

Thankfully, all of the characters on #TeamWaifu's wish list aren't great characters.

Just for the record, not everyone who is clamoring for more female characters does it out of "Waifu"-ness. As a matter of fact, I would actually say "#TeamWaifu" is the vast minority of them.
Personally, I would like to see more female characters, but not because I want a "waifu"
I'm gay
, but rather because I feel it would add a lot more variety to the roster, and also be a way to attract female gamers.

I don't even care for "gender equality" or that nonsense, since I'm well aware that Nintendo doesn't have a lot of female characters, let alone important ones.

It could change between babies like in Yoshi's Island DS.
