Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

i think that's just little mac and the fact that this game is a lil faster than brawl. his aerial game also appears awful.

"you ain't no air fighter mac, quit foolin' around out there. SMASH AIN'T NO JOKE."

im thinking he's a guy who likes to keep his fights on the ground.

I understand that more like "out fighter"

I hate to be the one to ask, but can someone add little mac to this:

Please! :D
Already done.
Wallpaper update!

I just noticed something. Doc Louis stopped counting Little Mac's pull-ups in the beginning of the trailer at 101.

The Wonderful 100/101 hint?......a guy can dream, right?

That's a great breakdown. I was just thinking of all these little things I saw and I went and refreshed the page and there it was!

I'd like to mention one thing though, I'm pretty sure the meter is there to show what kind of punch comes out of the charge punch.
With the way that it changes colors there could be about 5 of em.

Blue, Green, Orange and Red arrows and then finally the K.O. punch.

With how you said that the juggle on the Mac vs. Link pic could be a tap of B, that'd be the blue powered one, meanwhile the on Wily's being the better long ranged one being closer towards the Orange and Red range and of course the K.O. punch.

Kind of a leap in logic but an interesting thought going ahead.

That'd also explain the point in having a meter in the first place. If he has five different punches it'd be difficult to keep track of just by looking at the character.

EDIT: That could also explain that big punch he did where he was stuck for a bit when he hit the villager and pit.

I don't think Little Mac with that moveset would've worked so well with Brawl's physics, he's an aggressive, combo orientated character. Captain Falcon was an aggressive character in Melee, but was ruined in the transition to Brawl because of the physics.

The ability to cancel out hitstun after 13 frames (~5th of a second -_-) during knockback with an airdodge or 25 frames in with an attack just speaks volumes about how defensive and non combo orientated Brawl was.

Without that cancel system, Brawl's hitstun was exactly the same as Melee.

Smash 4 seems to have removed the cancel system, which is great news for a lot of characters.

that doesn't really negate the point that she completely misinterpreted the joke, just that some people on tumblr take criticisms of games as stupidly seriously as people do innocent jokes

I mean, is the Wii Fit Trainer trailer supposedly fat-shaming because she assaults Mario for no reason?
please don't tell me if somebody actually argued this

Fantastic trailer. I love the animated comic book art style and hope Nintendo makes a game that looks like it!

I wonder why they went with that kind of style for this one? It just feels so different compared to the other trailers. Maybe it's because Punch-Out is more of a western kind of thing? Though I gotta admit I associate it more to JoJo now thanks to some of the posters in this thread

Its one reason I got off of Tumblr. I saw this kind of crap all the time.

Yes, Tumblr had it's Wii Fit Trainer = "fat shaming" controversy already. As well as the "pure white" skin controversy.

Yeah, it didn't really resemble the style of cel-shading Punch-Out!! for the wii used. I'd like to think they're maybe hinting at something else with it, but it was probably just a fun stylistic choice like how they had the Wii Fit fakeout for WFT's reveal.

... but smash already has a ton of fat characters whose movesets don't revolve around being fat

WFT being white... Sort of makes more sense? I mean, I guess I can see getting annoyed Nintendo barely has any significant black characters, but directing that at WFT/Smash seems weird.

I may have seen something about how all the Smash 4 females are tall, blonde and skinny, but nothing about fat-shaming.

Be right back, need to update my Tumblr

See, I would argue this as well but less as a BE MORE PROGRESSIVE NINTENDO thing and more just visually it gets really boring after awhile. Dixie and more left-field characters like Jill Dozer and Lip the fairy would address that issue nicely me thinks.

Prediction Time: The Punch Out orchestral arrangement you hear during the gameplay sequences is the work of Motoi Sakuraba.

Here's my revised roster:

I re-added the E3 leak characters. I'm feeling confident in that again (yeah, I flip-flop a lot, I know).

Awesome gifs DaBoss. Mac is like the perfect mix of Dudley (jab speed/ up special/counter) and Balrog (overhead/charge punches). Gasp...he's the perfect boxer :0

lol. A part of me still can't believe it.

I understand that more like "out fighter"

does doc say that in the game or something? or was he saying mac isn't an "out" of the ring type fighter in a pun like fashion? cause i'm not the only one who heard air lol. oh well, i think the point was made. he's an aggressive bruiser on the ground with crazy fast dodge rolls and super armor attacks. not much aerial game demonstrated, and the little that is shown tells us what we need to know... i think.

doc's coaching in the trailer is awesome.

When I look back through the Smash Records in 5 years, I know which character is going to have the most overall accidental suicides.

I think what Little Mac does in the beginning here is a counter:
iVSqCeOHZtme7.gif

We only see the part where he gets hit in the beginning, but that seems to be a part of the counter as seen here:
iRMgNRO5qWP0M.gif

Little Mac doesn't absorb the hit, he does flinch, but that is a part of the counter.
Slowed down version:
ibz3j16J5ynIoF.gif

The Link counter looks off because it is a different perspective.

I also think the counter is what we see here:
The flinch seems to give time for a player to dodge it, which is not really possible for other characters with a counter.

WFT's movement in this gif is funny. I wonder if she moves while crouching? (notice a small hop)

Ah! I forgot about this too. That would indeed mean that she has a crawl.

Also its not a counter because Link is hit up, not backwards like Samus. I think that last picture could be down-tilt or Smash.

I'm starting to understand why Lil' Mac Daddy has so many super armor moves. It's due to his small statue, and alot of his normals may not have the same range as let's say, Link's or DK's. So he can eat that ish up, and keep rolling through since he will be getting tagged heavily by the longer reach characters.

I'm so late, I know.

Well, I mainly said it because an "outsider" is a type of fighter in box

Well, it's not an untrue assessment, to be sure (although WFT is technically not blonde). Diversity would be nice, but they're also limited to Nintendo's characters, so there's not many options.

It sound pretty generic, even for Sakuraba. I don't hear anything that's Sakuraba style in it.

Wow Mac that's fucking bullshit you don't punch the ref

Well done, sir!

Little Mac. A Champion of gay men everywhere.

main.png

So much muscle it hurts... We finally have a character to gender balance all the Waifu'ing around here.

Yes, please. *drool*

After it zooms in, the gameplay speeds up while he builds meter through what is presumed to be aggressive gameplay. After he's charged a full meter it zooms out, showing him unleashing a fully-charged neutral-B.

My theory is that the first image is ground side-B, and the second is aerial side-B, but with the second gif it's now harder for me to believe he jumps immediately before triggering the side-B.

In that case, what is the first gif's attack? It's too quick to have been a counter (it didn't make the noise for the counter in the trailer either), his neutral-B attacks appear to be straight punches until the OHKO, and it looks like side-B always make him hop.

I think you're onto something about the Side-B including a hop. I can't tell from the timing whether he jumps and strikes or not, but I'm inclined to believe that his Side-B works similar to Diddy's Side-B in Brawl.

Also, when they explain the Power Meter, Mac slides toward Bowser and Mega Man and then strikes, which leads me to believe that his Neutral B is a chargeable dashing jab. While charging, Mac receives super armor; when the charge is unleashed, Mac does a straight dash across the field and jabs. If Mac fully charges the Power Meter, the dashing jab becomes an instant-KO uppercut.

He looks like he's performing a Dodge Roll in the Link gif.

Out of curiosity, is the NES Punch-Out!! considered Little Mac’s first game? The protagonist of the original arcade game didn’t have a name, but “Mac” fits as an input, and the character was really small for technical reasons. Nintendo also considers the NES game a “remake” of the original, so it makes sense that the main character would be the same as well.

Little Mac is the main character of the console Punch Out!! games, NES Punch Out!! was his first appearance

This is very compelling. I think you might be right! Great job!

As for the Samus thing being sexist? How does a character punching a female character in a fighting game for teasing him make it sexist?? Especially since Wii Fit Trainer busted up two male characters (And Kirby) in her reveal for no reason at all...
