Sega fully owns Bayonetta. Nintendo partially owns The Wonderful 101. If one of them's gonna make it in, a W101 rep is more likely to appear in the Smash series.

Bayonetta in Smash remains one of the worst ideas ever brought up by the community.
Actually, Nintendo fully owns W101. It's a similar situation as Bayonetta with Sega. Nintendo got all the rights to the IP in the deal.

One thing I kinda like about Little Mac having the power meter is that it represents the majority of the Punch-Out!! series gameplay. Yes, the star punch would make more sense for Mac, but having him come equipped with the power meter instead makes his inclusion all encompassing. Little Mac, with the addition of one move, represents the whole franchise, and not just the two games he was in.

Let's say Bayonetta 2 comes out in August.
A Bayonetta newcomer reveal for Smash at E3 2014 in June would:
- Turn heads with the same sort of shock value as Snake in Brawl
- Serve as a HUGE advertisement of Bayonetta 2 to the Nintendo crowd
- Generate lots of buzz for Smash with a fresh roster addition
- Would be incredibly HYPE
They could handle her like they did in Anarchy Reigns, where she was barely ever nude and where certain "excesses" in her personality were greatly dialed down, all while still feeling like Bayonetta. As it turns out, what makes Bayonetta feel like Bayonetta is her stylish, flowing dodges and attacks -- all of which would translate beautifully to Smash. She could even use her laser guns instead of her bullet-based ones, as well as her whip, her magic ice skates, her rocket launchers, her nunchuks, her butterfly wings, her panther transformation, etc.
She'd work well. Those who can't see it also probably couldn't see Wii Fit Trainer working until, well, she did.

I was a little pissed they weren't including it in the first or second batch of JPN releases, since the game's eighth anniversary is on April 20th. :/
Nintendo should just come out and say that the character in the arcade games is Little Mac. They're both Americans with green gloves and shorts, and this artwork establishes a connection. Donkey Kong is considered Mario's first appearance, but he wasn't fleshed out and given a name until later on.
I don't know... it just bugs me a little. Nintendo's never said anything on the matter, but it seems obvious to me that Little Mac is the natural evolution of the nameless wireframe boxer.
I'm not really for or against it, but it could certainly work well.
And it would make sense to promote the franchise.
Pretty much. She fits even less than Snake and has almost no affiliations with Nintendo or its history.

There are literally thousands of third-party video game IPs, and Bayonetta is pretty far down the list. I just don't understand why one of the few cherished guest spots in Smash Bros. should go to such a minor character. Sonic, Snake, Mega Man, and Pac-Man are world famous icons whose games have sold tens of millions of copies over the span of 20+ years. Bayonetta is not. (And I'm against the idea of there being multiple characters from the same company. Sonic is our Sega character.)
Nintendo already confirmed Little Mac is the protagonist in the Super NES game. His design was just different.
And I agree about that. I mentioned that a few pages ago. Just confirm it, to end any future debates.
I would think they would like to push Bayonetta since they are publishing Bayo 2. Besides, Bayonetta would make an excellent fighting game character.

Just watched the Rosalina trailer. Thought she wasn't much at first until I saw a breakdown trailer trailer and realize how complex she looks. I have no idea how you're able to control both of them at once. It doesn't look like an Ice Climbers type deal.

Well, Nintendo of America has refereed to the Super Punch-Out!! SNES protagonist as Little Mac. But I don't think it is that clear that he was intended to be Mac, he was an avatar like character, the same as the arcade protagonist from the first two games. An official retcon wouldn't bug me, I just wanna hear what Genyo Takeda has to say on the matter.
I always thought the original protagonist or the SNES protagonist would make a good boss in a new Punch-Out!! game. I was hoping one of them would be the surprise character in Punch-Out!! Wii.
Nintendo of America said that. In a virtual console description of the SNES game. I wanna hear it from the source.
Beyond that, there's this monstrosity. Nintendo would have had to sign off on that.

I like the idea of him returning as a boss character. That would be interesting. Reminds me of like Red Hood/Jason Todd. Came back angry after Doc stopped traning him for Little Mac, again. Sensed that evil in him. lol

I agree so much. I'm sick of people mentioning Bayonetta as a real possibility.
Ideally...
1. He's a part of Little Mac's intro animation and runs forward off-screen
2. He shouts advice/motivation during the battle (like in the trailer, but not nearly as loud)
3. He appears in Mac's celebration animations

Nintendo should either embrace the retcon or utilize the history of the franchise.
Nothing natural about it. The entire reason he's little is because the NES couldn't reproduce the wireframe from the arcade games, so the player had to be tiny for the enemies to be adequately visible.

the thing about pokemon is it needs alot of characters to properly represent the franchise, which is huge.
It means that they jointly created the IP. Nintendo, as Sega does with Bayonetta, owns the W101 IP itself. In theory, Nintendo could hire another developer for a potential sequel....not like they'd hire anyone besides Platinum if sequel were to happen.

I just realized that Punch-Out is 15th franchise that got announced for SSB4.
Even if Platinum Games co-owns the IP along with Nintendo...it's still a Nintendo franchise, and it's still fair game for Smash Bros. I believe Nintendo co-owns the Pokémon, Kirby, and Fire Emblem franchises, too, yet they're in Smash Bros. with no problem. The Wonderful 101 is completely fair game for Smash Bros., and it would not be considered third-party.

Sakurai and Kamiya are good friends. Sakurai is almost undoubtedly part of why Nintendo picked up Bayonetta 2 in the first place. If Sakurai wants to out a Kamiya creation in, it would probably be a mutual agreement between them as friends. No character is more likely than the other, especially since Sega has a great relationship with Nintendo these days.
A huge portion of the FGC wants to see her in a fighting game. I guarantee you that a significant number of folks would buy the system for that opportunity. Bayonetta is a system seller, as evinced by numerous GAF members saying they are buying a Wii U for her game. She is not Mario, but she holds weight.

Hm, yeah. At this point I think the only unconfirmed, "will he return?" veteran I'm really pining for is Ness. Maybe Captain Falcon... I don't really care about him personally or use him, but he's iconic to the franchise and it just wouldn't feel the same without him.
To be honest, I wouldn't mind some dedicated commentary. We can have Doc Louis sitting in the commentators booth with Hades and Viridi.
