Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Man seeing that pic IntelliHeath posted of the series' logos shows how far Smash has come.

Still strange not seeing the Yoshi egg, Falcon symbol, and Onett planet on there yet though.

based on the sakurai match at e3 last year and all the reveal trailers how does the speed of the this game compare to melee? right now its looking brawl 2.0 to me because I'm still seeing a little floatiness

Picking up Punch-out for the Wii tomorrow. I got an inch and only Little Mac can scratch it. Think I'm gonna pick up Mario Srikers Charged as well.

A huge portion of the FGC wants to see her in a fighting game. I guarantee you that a significant number of folks would buy the system for that opportunity. Bayonetta is a system seller, as evinced by numerous GAF members saying they are buying a Wii U for her game. She is not Mario, but she holds weight.

You can't use the incredibly loyal gamers on NeoGAF and apply them to the real world. You cannot say that Bayonneta is a system seller just because 100 people on a forum for people obsessed with video games say that they will buy a Wii U for Bayonneta 2. If it was a system selling franchise, then the first game would have been far more popular, and the 2nd game wouldn't have to be funded by Nintendo just for it to exist.

To me it is looking a tad bit quicker than Melee. Some characters seem heavier overall.

Sakurai better be saving the inevitable Little Mac reveal for E3.

Well...

I am a tad disappointed we didn't get to see the Mac reveal at E3, Sakurai giving the west a big kiss would have gotten a nice reaction, assuming Nintendo is returning to traditional E3 presentations.

Amazing.

Question for people who have been actively following this thread. Who do people think will be the wtf pick (WFT doesn't count I mean somebody retro).

I think because of Nintendoland people seem to be leaning towards Takamaru?

I'm still hoping for Sukapon.

13 frames is just over a fifth of a second, not a twentieth.

Yeah, it's definitely aro-- ...oh god I actually wrote 20th. No idea why I did that.

Smash 4 is definitely not Brawl 2.0 if we're talking shown physics and hitstun (in recent footage / trailers).

The speed and "heaviness" of this game seems much closer to Melee than Brawl right now. The Little Mac trailer definitely shows that (even Samus is getting set up for combos). The inclusion of Little Mac is also something that gives me hopes in the first place; a rush-down, pressure based, aggressive fighter; something that wouldn't work at all in Brawl.

So of the remaining Brawl assist trophies which do you think has a real chance at being bumped up to full fighter like Little Mac?

Brawl Assist Trophy List

Little Mac (confirmed playable)
Starfy (confirmed assist)
Nintendog (confirmed assist)
Waluigi
Troops from advanced wars
Isaac
Saki
Samurai Goroh
Gray Fox
Barbara Bat
Devil
Mr Resetti
Andross
Excitebike
Mr Wright
Hammer Bro
Helerin
Jeff
Jill and Drill Dozer
Kat & Ana
Knuckle Joe
Lakitu
Metriod
Ray MK2
Shadow
Tingle

-----

Personally from that list a lot don't seem viable at all like Hammer Bro or Lakitu. Cutting it down to characters I'd say have at worst a slight chance

Isaac
Saki
Ray MK2
Lyn
Shadow
Samurai Goroh

Of those I feel like Saki and Isaac have the best chance to be pumped up to playable. Both series got a new game after the release of brawl the same way Punch Out did. While I do think FE will see a newcomer, it's more likely to be Chrom or Lucina (or Roy return) before Lyn who's less relevant now then she was at Brawl's launch.

Shadow could be an easy Sonic clone, but with Sonic being a guess I don't think we'll see multiple Sonic characters ever. Ray MK2 has a pretty big potential for a move set, but his franchise is deader then Metroid and Starfox combined. Same with Samurai Goroh and F-Zero getting another rep.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind some dedicated commentary. We can have Doc Louis sitting in the commentators booth with Hades and Viridi.
I would've loved some sort of halfway between SEE and Melee's adventure mode. Something short, replayable and not taking itself too seriously. Something like a Hunger Games/Game of Thrones esque story where you can pick any character. Have a little enclosed map that combines various set pieces and areas from all different kinds of games and allow your character to choose where to head to and what characters to fight. The CPUs will also move around the map fighting each other or teaming up so that you're not neccesarily fighting each character. Have the adventure mode last 1-2 hours and have different commentators that banter with the character. You could have various different characters like Hades, Fawful, Professor E. Gadd, Tingle, Hocotate president, Doc Louis, Cranky Kong, Adam, Viridi, Cynthia, Slippy, Tom Nook, Groose, etc. Be the anouncer/ commentator and banter with the other spectators KI:U/SF64 esque while you play the levels.

F-Type from Stunt Race FX would be an awesome, unexpected and unique addition. Give him his cartoony aesthetic from the game and its commercial, using his wheels like hands to attack with.

Definite Trophy.

Hoping his commentary is enabled as a sort of Special Taunt for Little Mac.

"Join the Nintendo Fun Club today, Mac!"

Yeah, it's definitely aro-- ...oh god I actually wrote 20th. No idea why I did that.
Probably because 13/60 = 0.21666..., and you were feeling tired or ecstatic or groggy or whatever and made the incorrect leap that ~0.20 = one 20th. Or something?

That and Sakurai has mentioned the character before being a possible Smash newcomer.

Little Mac for the west
Takamaru for the east

I liked this idea. Little Mac would be a popular franchise in the West with lesser recognition in Japan, while Takamaru being the other way around. It'd be a great duo of retro representatives.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna assume it was that. Which was really stupid of me to not realize. :P

Saki all the way. We need another gun-shooter who isn't a space animal.

Isaac and Saki, definitely. Isaac because he is still a relatively popular request and has a lot of options open with his Psyenergy abilites; and Saki, because there is more content available for the Sin and Punishment series, and Sakurai seemed to really like Saki.

that's probably more because of shitty DI in the trailers
also see E3 footage and Sonic/Rosalina

I'm not seeking that at all lol

doesn't really bother me tho since brawl is my favorite smash game

If you are judging the speed with Little Mac. That's his speed since he's very fast character. I think it is more on Brawl side if you look at Rosalina and Sonic Trailers.

Oh dammit, I didn't realize I typed that! I meant slightly faster than Brawl, not Melee. Nothing is shown to be Melee speeds, but rather a slightly faster Brawl.

Saki all the way. We need another gun-shooter who isn't a space animal.

Saki would be the first gun/sword user in the game which could give him a unique style compared to space animals and sword users

Yeah those two seem like they have the highest chance, I guess I'd say 3rd most likely is ray mk2 though rob may be all the robot Smash needs. I really can't envision Goroh, Shadow, or Lyn playable

Of the ones you listed Isaac, Saki and Ray (I prefer 01 instead of Mk II) are my most wanted and I feel have a good chance of becoming playable. I don't see Shadow ever being playable nor Samurai Goroh or Lyn.

I feel like I could see, or rather I want, Waluigi to be playable and rep the sports side of the Mario franchise.

Finally, Custom Robo had entries up until the Gamecube and DS, basically about as far as Starfox and Metroid did. Metroid winning out due to appearing on the Wii and I guess Nintendoland counts as well. Starfox has been gone for a good amount of time aside from the 3D remake yet it has 3 reps. Custom Robo is a series with just as much history and Ray has really good potential moveset not to mention MORE MECHA LOVE! I wouldn't count a rep from his series out. The symbol could be a little cube like the ones the robos are launched in.

This makes me want a new Custom Robo game :C.

It isn't a dice roll. There is no probability here.

Sakurai and Kamiya are good friends. Sakurai is almost undoubtedly part of why Nintendo picked up Bayonetta 2 in the first place. If Sakurai wants to out a Kamiya creation in, it would probably be a mutual agreement between them as friends. No character is more likely than the other, especially since Sega has a great relationship with Nintendo these days.

Regardless, the W101 would be the better pick. They don't over-represent Sega like Bayonetta would, the W101 are actually a Nintendo IP (& a new retail one at that, something Nintendo has been lacking in as of recently), they'd have a unique moveset (more so in the Unite Morphs, if done properly), & they fit Smash better due to the more cartoony artstyle of their source game.

Again, I don't hate Bayonetta, I actually loved the first game to death (had to play it on a friend's 360, due to the bad things I've heard about the PS3 version) & plan on buying the second game ASAP. I'm just thinking of this from a representation standpoint. Yes, Bayonetta would bring hype, but the W101 represents one of the few new high-profile Nintendo IPs as of recently (as stated earlier), which is a big deal.

A pick I've seen tossed around a bit is Rainman, which would be representative of the Hanafuda cards Nintendo made before it made video games. It's about as far back in Nintendo's history as you can get, and even though it wouldn't be a video game character, I still think it's a very unique pick to represent Nintendo's past.

I would actually be really happy with any new kind of newcomer that brings something interesting to the game.

the only thing that I hate is the fact that we get so little gameplay videos ):
I hope they bring demos to E3!

Given that we're getting the game this year, a demo at E3 is almost a guarantee. I just hope they bring E3 demos to Best Buy again like they did last year....& expand upon it (I.E. bring the demos to a Best Buy that's closer to my house).

Oh man @.@, if they had a Smash 4 demo at a Best Buy near me they would have to remove me from the store by force.

Why is it that every time somebody talks about Mac's KO meter, they always fail to mention it's a one-hit KO? Max did a breakdown on him and he says he's not sure how much damage it does.

I hope at E3 we got some actual info about the game. I really want to see what they have planned for the online features.

I just realize that Duck Hunt will be 30 years this year. Duck Hunt's 30th Anniversary will be on April 21, 1984. I hope to see trophy, an assist trophy or Duck Hunt Pond stage.

The first game sold a million copies with a bad port. That is fantastic for a new IP. Sega is irrelevant - they have hardly made a good IP decision all gen. There is a significant fanbase there that has grown over time. Just look at the massive hate Kamiya has gotten for the sequel being on Wii U. On Twitter and Facebook, not on GAF.

This may sound ridiculous, but I do think Waluigi has a realistic chance of being playable. 2 Mario newcomers really isn't as far-fetched as many claim it to be, especially considering how important the Mario franchise is to Nintendo (Super Smash Bros. was named after it). He's one of the more iconic characters in that list of Brawl Assist Trophies and really had no reason to be one other than to just shoehorn him in. I wouldn't be surprised if he was only added to cater to the fan-base and have him included in some way other than a regular trophy. Dude's popular, and is pretty demanded character.

I'm sure I'll regret saying this when he's confirmed as an Assist Trophy in a PotD, but I'll live with it.

I also don't think Shadow's chances are that high... or even existent. :s

There are a ton of angles to consider this from. That is why it is not guessable. TW101 is a new IP, and it is Nintendo, but it is also out and it flopped. Economically, it makes more sense to promo a highly desirable character for a game that is releasing within 6 months of Smash than it does to promote something in the bargain bin.

The optimal time for a TW101 reveal has also passed.

Bayonetta has a set of excellent and unique moves to offer as well. Both would be great for gameplay.

Sega owns Bayonetta, but no one would think of it as Sega representation. No one thinks of Platinum Games as Sega. There was a three game contract between them. That is all. Kamiya has a huge fan following, and people look at her as a Kamiya character.

Snake didn't fit Smash at all visually. Bayonetta fits more than he does.

Bayonetta also helps provide more female options, something Sakurai cares about this time around.

Likely, neither character will be in. I think the better choice is Bayonetta, though.

As long as Waluigi isn't in, and we get Palutena, I will be happy with the roster. Waluigi would make Rob look good.

But she would be Sega representation regardless. I wouldn't mind seeing Bayonetta in, I've established that, but the W101 would be the better choice as they're actually a Nintendo IP. Also, not all of the Smash characters sell well. In fact, Fire Emblem was on the verge of being phased out if it weren't for Awakening.

I'll probably still scream like a fan-girl if Bayo gets in.

I'll say it again, we aren't doubting Bayonetta's ability to generate hype for Smash 4, she definitely would. She just wouldn't represent Nintendo as well as the W101 would, & would show Sega bias in picking third party characters.
Don't "we" your own opinion.

You know who doesn't represent. Nintendo well? Sonic. And Snake. Hell, Snake is a terrible choice. He is barely associated with Nintendo. Clearly Nintendo representation is not a decisive point.

As I said, no one thinks of Bayonetta as a Sega character. She is a Kamiya creation, and that is how folks identify her.

Most importantly, none of these arguments fucking matter. Sakurai does what he wants, and any decision he makes will be through a discussion between him and Kamiya. Sakurai isn't going to decide this off of all these factors you guys keep bringing up. The guys are close friends.

But she would be Sega representation regardless. I wouldn't mind seeing Bayonetta in, I've established that, but the W101 would be the better choice as they're actually a Nintendo IP. Right, but that is part of why these factors are really non-factors. Sakurai does what we wants. He gives us Wii Fit Trainer out of nowhere, throws in Megaman, drops Solid Snake in, etc. No one ever sees where he is coming from. Trying to reason out his future decisions is pointless. Doubly so here.

How does Bayonetta fit more than Snake? Guns and getting naked are part of her basic attacks. Doesn't really seem to fit with Smash at all.

Even if they replaced the guns I don't think they could do her justice if they don't want to be over-the-top sexually suggestive like she usually is.
