From my limited time and experience with a more competitive group of Smash players, they will take you in and teach you the ropes about everything from matchups to best ways to use a character. As long as you were genuinely interested and stuck around they would help you. It wasn't all perfect (nope lol) but you could always tell there were people who wanted to help in some way. I remember we did have one girl player who ended up being an amazing Peach player when it was all said and done. Definitely one of the best Peachs there. I know because I got my butt kicked more times than not.

Yeah it seems to be an issue with other fighting game communities. I remember an article on eventhubs that talked about how BurnyourBra was treated because she was a girl into SF4.
As they say, if it's on the Internet and it concerns Smash Bros., Sakurai probably knows about it

I noticed a distinct lack of Jigglypuff.
Seeing as she's one of the Original 12, the chances of her removal are extremely slim.
It'd suck to be as much of a fan of Nintendo as I am and live in Europe it seems.

On-topic, yeah, still not buying that Jigglypuff will get axed.

I'm from Europe as well. Can confirm.
They can still mess with the proportions as needed. Ridley's design is never consistent between games (save for Meta Ridley, who gets a Phazon related makeover in 3 anyway) so most design changes wouldn't stick out too badly. I'm personally hoping they go with a composite design. (say, zero mission colors, blank eyes [pupils are for chumps] and close-to-brawl proportions)
