Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Hate to nitpick, but it was never said the single player would be like Melee's. It was just said that it wouldn't have cutscenes like SSE.

That hasn't quite been explicitly stated, or even implied by Sakurai really. We just know we're getting a single player mode that's not like SSE.

Fair enough. The "minimal CG cutscenes" statement made me think it was more like Adventure than SSE.

It was fairly obvious Diddy's Side-Tilt was increased by a significant amount, but god damn the difference is crazy.

1. Wow I never realized how dated Brawl looked.
2. AAAAAHHHHHH THOSE FINGERS AAAAAAAAAHHH

I know Polygon is probably drunk .... but I have to ask ...

Is Polygon Drunk ?

Super Smash Bros. will not feature cross-platform play on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS because stages will be unique to each platform, as well as system-specific moves and items. The game will also offer different achievements for each respective platform. Super Smash Bros. is slated to launch this year for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

I like how Sakurai fears that giving something new to Link might make him too powerful, but drastically increasing the range of Diddy's attacks isn't a problem at all. Well, actually, I don't like it. Why does Link always have to be low tier in Smash?

I don't think the bit about moves has ever been stated before, yes. I don't think we've seen any Pikmins just hanging around in 3ds shots yet though, so there's a chance that someone like Olimar might end up with a tweaked moveset for the 3ds (where the Pikmin only appear for the attack itself and don't follow him around).

Diddy has the best collection of pictures on the SmashBros website yet.

Diddy looks pretty... off. His eyes bother me in the official render. He looks like those obvious, two-dimensionally drawn fakes that try and fail to look like the actual renders.

oh my god that actually makes waaay too much sense

Who is next now, Yoshi isn't it? Or is there an anniversary coming up somewhere?

Yoshi's New Island should be the next game out with any relevance to Smash Bros., but the Japanese release is still many moons away as opposed to DKCTF which was only a week difference. We shall see in any case.

After that the only thing on our radar is Mario Kart 8.

March to May picture drought confirmed?

Pokemon Battle Trozei is coming out mid-March too - sort of a minor release that might not warrant a character, though. There's also NES Remix 2 in April... that could give us an old school character.

I don't see why there's going to be a drought. Most of the characters left don't have a new game coming out to match their reveals with.

As a player that selects random just as much as selecting their "mains" Diddy is one of my least favorite characters to play as. I can be fairly effective with him when I play with him but I just can't figure out what it is about his playstyle that I just don't like that much. I don't think he looks that bad, just not as amazing as many of the returning vets do like samus.

Man, Diddy's hands and feet sure are fucky. Despite adoring the DKC franchise, and especially Diddy's role in the first trilogy, I hated using him in Brawl. I hope we get Dixie.

Still, happy tropical freeze day everyone! Since we have so much time now between Wii U releases (from today to May 30th), let's use some of that money we're saving by NOT buying Wii U games to chip in and get Diddy a mani/pedi. Dude is gonna win every match by default just because no one will want to be near his deflated dong digits.

If I were to outline the next few months:

Mid-March: Yoshi or a Pokemon (Yoshi's New Island/Pokemon Battle Trozei)
Late March: Random Veteran (Falco? Ness? Lucas? Captain Falcon?)
Mid-April: Newcomer/Snake/Mewtwo (Nintendo Direct)
Late April: Ice Climbers or R.O.B. (NES Remix 2)
Early May: Meta Knight (Kirby Triple Deluxe)
Late May: Wario (Mario Kart 8)
Mid-June: Pac-Man, Possible 2nd Newcomer? (E3 Nintendo Direct)

That still leaves a TON of unrevealed veterans, too.

That looks rather reasonable. At this rate, I'm curious if anyone gets dropped from Brawl.

You know.... I don't think anybodys getting dropped.

This is going to be the biggest Smash yet. I expect everyone from Brawl returning, Mewtwo and Roy returning, and about 10 newcomers excluding MegaMan and PacMan (He's gonna be in)

Edit: Excluding Snake, he may be dropped but how awesome would it be if he made the cut!!

With no major games coming out in March and April aside from the western release of Yoshi's New Island, I hope this time to start getting random veteran reveals like Ness and Captain Falcon. And of course there's gonna be a newcomer in April. We all pretty much agree that character reveals will be 2 per month now, right?

I was going to included these two predictions in my breakdown but figured they were such a stretch that I shouldn't even bother lol

there's not a chance in fuck he's going to announce characters to coincide with Battle Trozei or NES Remix 2. It would be great, though.

IIRC the biggest difference between versions that we know about is that supposedly the 3DS version has some kind of character building system and that you can import your personalized characters from the 3DS version to the Wii U version.

I still stand by that this is a mii thing. Miis are customizable akin to custom stages, and you can turn them off if you want. The sticker system will likely be replaced by something to customize miis. Because of this, you can transfer from 3DS to wii U, and vice versa.

I think this will happen:

March 14th - Yoshi (Yoshi's New Island for 3DS Release Date)
March 28th - Wario (One year anniversary of Game & Wario)
April ?? - Newcomer for the Nintendo Direct
April 25th - Game & Watch (NES Remix 2 for Wii U Release Date)
May 2nd - Metaknight (Kirby Triple Deluxe for 3DS Release Date)

You guys think this is reasonable?
