Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Y'know, it kind of dawned on me this morning that, limiting myself to humanoid characters (no Bowser, Lucario, Kirby, etc.), Smash only has one person of color in its entire roster (Ganondorf).

Not that I'm going all SJW and demanding more representation; it'd be nice, but I'm not really torn up about it. Just an observation.

Mike Pollock is David Hayter's father? Seriously?
I think somebody missed the fairly important "in Japan" part of that sentence.

We clearly need Hades. With his inclusion just about all colors would be represented :P

You also forgot Dark Link, obviously :P

It's unfortunate, but it kinda can't be helped. Nintendo just doesn't have very many persons of color in their games - unless, of course, you count certain characters as Japanese, which you easily could.

They don't really have many to choose from.
However, you forgot about Dat Game & watch B-)

That's why we need Anthony Higgs!

(I think it's really a symptom of Smash being so Japan-centric... I realized recently that Diddy is the only character included that's not from Japan! That's pretty crazy considering how many characters there are, though I suppose it's also pretty crazy how little Western devs have influenced Nintendo...)

One of his taunts would be "Remembah Me?"

Why was Anthony so important in Other M anyway? He didn't seem noteworthy, besides having slightly more personality than the other people in the Fed Team.

Only one really in Smash is Pokemon Trainer, since Kanto is analogous to Japan. Ness looks and sounds Japanese, but Onett is obviously a 50s America homage.

Technically Donkey Kong too, since it's Rare's design and not the original Miyamoto one. Even though in '94 DK had the tie first, I imagine that might've been because DKC was in development and they wanted synergy.

Well most of SmashGAF seems to either not want him playable (with quite a vocal group of people vehemently arguing against his inclusion at every possible point), not care about him or absolutely not expecting him to be playable.

I would think that Ridley not being playable would be received by most of SmashGAF with joy or simple resignation.
Who is this "most of SmashGAF"? I don't post that much here, but I am always reading and I have never seen this amount of negativity towards Ridley you're mentioning. Of course, there are people against him here (like I told IntelliHeath, but he didn't believe) and you are quite clearly one of them, but "most of SmashGAF" seems to be a huge stretch.

Also, is it just me or comments like "I can't wait to see Ridley [or any heavily (or not) requested character] being revealed as an Assist Trophy" are kind of jerkish. Not sure what is entertaining about other people being sad/disappointed. Then again, this is the internet.

I'm big on Ridley being playable.

Just got an email from a source who told me that Ridley was rejected in favour of the boss from Gnat Attack.

He's the only surviving character of the game besides Samus, and he's also the one to keep Ridley at bay long enough for Samus to snap back to her senses after her freak-out.

I'd be cool with Anthony Higgs
half of it is because I like his character, half of it is cause im also black and would be happy to see a black person(besides arguably ganondorf) in smash, half because of the meme, and half because I think he would have a interesting moveset with his big ass gun.

The Mario Kart Item thread makes me think how awesome would be a Blue Shell item here.

Specialy because most stages/modes (without stocks/position display) you can't know who is winning till the fight is over ... so it would have a chance of hitting the people who used xD

I do. It was very rare for me to doing that tho. One time that I decided to be random and change the setting to Coin Match with online buddies. For some reason they told me to change back to stock matches despite the fact that we had a lot of fun coin match. It could be just one sided feeling for me.

Coin mode is also my favorite.

Coins>Stock>>>Time

even in coin mode, you know who's in the lead!
and stamina

pretty much the only modes you don't know the leader is time and bonus (it's still around right)

I never enjoyed coin matches, always seemed kinda random and hectic. Probably better on bigger stages though so you can single out whoever has the most coins more easily.

I liked stamina occassionally though.

Any chance Nintendo will have DLC for this game?

Sakurai said he doesnt want to do DLC and patches and all that cause he plans of stuffing as much stuff into this as possible, which is what he does for every game, but he is also known for changing his mind on a dime so you never know.

I'm praying for Smash DLC. Nintendo has proven they aren't Capcpom when it comes to DLC. It won't be day one, and they won't hold stuff back just to sell it to us (at least they won't make it obvious, lol)

I'm hoping for a NSLU style DLC structure. 8 months after launch, $20 DLC with new characters, stages, music, balance changes. Shit would be awesome.

I don't think it's going to happen, though.

If we don't get DLC (which we probably won't), then please for the love of Master Hand don't anyone complain about potential mods (which might not even happen this time around). That's the trade-off.

If DLC means getting characters who couldn't be completed on time, then I don't see what the problem is. I'd have happily shelled out $20 to play as Mewtwo, Roy, Dr. Mario, Toon Zelda, Plusle & Minun, and Dixie Kong in Brawl.
