Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

If DLC means getting characters who couldn't be completed on time, then I don't see what the problem is. I'd have happily shelled out $20 to play as Mewtwo, Roy, Dr. Mario, Toon Zelda, Plusle & Minun, and Dixie Kong in Brawl.

Yeah, seriously. "Sorry, we didn't have enough time. Please wait 6 years and buy a new console" doesn't sound like much of an excuse anymore.

If Monster Hunter is in one of the DLC, I'd gladily shell out £20 for it.

EDIT: Just went to see the Mac trailer again on the Smash YT channel to see a 3D option, which I couldn't use on mobile.

£20 is closing in on full game price (for those who shop smart).

£5-£10 at most for some fighters since that's just part of the game. You'd have to go full game content like NSLU for that kind of money. If the pack included new stages and music then £20 would be fairerish.

I want to believe
...I don't believe

I don't see why its so hard to believe. There's nothing between now and Kart, and Iwata said that he wanted to keep the momentum going strong after Kart's release. A late spring/early summer release for brawl would be great one two for the Wii U, and finally kick start some sales.

Yeah! That's the spirit!

I feel this way too. The main problem with the Wii U (and Nintendo consoles releases in general) is the drought between big releases for the platform. The latest the Wii U version should be released I believe is August. 3DS version can come out during the holiday.

the fact that it makes sense is exactly why I don't believe it'll happen

We have had way too few delays for this to be a proper Smash game...

I somehow erased from my memory that Brawl had Coin Matches xD

And I only use time when I play with my friends since it is more fair to who sucks at smash.

You can say it is a ... rubber band mode =P

That is a very much a huge excuse, smash lives on its hype, if they do everything with DLC it will lose something going into the next installment, smash is every bit about the speculation and hyping that it is the playing.

Does anybody know what font this is?

I found a few that look similar, but I can't identify the exact font.

EDIT: DF Hei Std HK W12 Traditional Chinese OT, maybe? It's too bad I can't actually find that font anywhere...

you speak as if it was even possible to deflate the hype from Smash fans

On the subject of DLC. It's been mentioned before but a SSB4 "Remix" kind of update could work. Few new characters, balance changes, maybe some mechanic tweaks and such. Like a Street Fighter 2 to Super SF2 type deal.

Won't happen though.

I'm praying for Smash DLC. Nintendo has proven they aren't Capcpom when it comes to DLC. It won't be day one, and they won't hold stuff back just to sell it to us (at least they won't make it obvious, lol)

I'm hoping for a NSLU style DLC structure. 8 months after launch, $20 DLC with new characters, stages, music, balance changes. Shit would be awesome.

I don't think it's going to happen, though.

My big issue with DLC, at least with Nintendo consoles is that if the eShop was ever taken down, the DLC would no longer be available, even if the base game was.

On that basis, if there were a physical "complete" version like the GOTY editions of other games, I'd be down with the idea.

Been gone for like 3 days, whats up guys? Any leaks? Funny stuff? Drama? I dont feel like reading through like 20 pages to catch up. <=D

Well it was the weekend, so no pics for 2 out of those 3 days. So basically all you (And myself) missed was Diddy's recovery being the same

I'd be cool with Anthony Higgs
half of it is because I like his character, half of it is cause im also black and would be happy to see a black person(besides arguably ganondorf) in smash, half because of the meme, and half because I think he would have a interesting moveset with his big ass gun.
That adds up to 2.

I just went through that site, and the closest font that I found was called Uninsta Heavy

Here is a link to the MyFonts page.
Closest, but not it. The capital C in that font looks more square than the one Smash uses.

I think we kinda/sorta attempted this before, but I'd actually love to see some stage selections/"rosters" from the regulars here.

Any chance Nintendo will have DLC for this game?

I really and honestly hope they go wild and have a generation long campaign with it. Smash typically rolls out once every 5 years on average and isn't prone to re-releases. What's more, the platform fighting genre only has Smash currently, so it doesn't really get anywhere near the overexposure as traditional fighters. I am down for as much as they can come up with. New stages, music and trophies at a regular clip and maybe a handful of new characters rolled out twice or so a year to keep the hype and player base steady would certainly be a great way to monetize Smash without scaring people off.

Fire Emblem Awakening shows they aren't above expansions and extra campaigns/content and Mario Kart 7 shows that they are cool with balance patches and general exploit workarounds. With how they're treating Mario Kart 8 as well, one only has to wonder if the other of the big multiplayer games from Nintendo will get the same treatment.

See, I'm in the boat that would love to see DLC. Not DLC that's unfinished pieces of the game being added way too late, but the fact that DLC can be used to add content taken from newer game or games that get released after Smash Bros.

For instance Miyamoto's new IP if it contains a character that could translate to Smash. When that eventually releases, they can add that potential character to Smash Bros. as a sort of "cross promotion" to boost recognition of such a new IP.

Ok guys I have to say it: Diddy's nails just freaks me out... a friggin' lot actually. I just hope he doesn't show up in tomorrow's pic.

Jesus that's weird.

I find it odd that they were even added, considering they don't exist in the actual Donkey Kong games. With Smash Bros. 4 going for a more cartoonish style, I don't get why Donkey and Diddy still look so... eerily realistic.

Also, re: DLC, I imagine it's not as simple as "Let's decide if we want to make it or not and not consider any other factors."

The team that makes Smash does not work for Nintendo and presumably have to go do other things after this. DLC would probably have to be pre-made and released on a schedule in this instance. I honestly wonder if the game will even get patches or if the team working on it will have to train a team at Nintendo for patch-work.

This makes sense.

As far as patches go I honestly think that if Sakurai believes it needs patching, he'll find a way to get it done team or no team. DLC is another story.

The biggest problem with DLC/Updates on 3ds is the same problem Mario Kart 7 3ds faces, you cant use the latest version for multiplayer unless you force everyone to download it, they just said fuck it, multiplayer is version 1.0.0 only

I've also thought about this. I think it will still be possible to release additional content because all they will have to do is build on already existing code/ tools even if it might take some extra time. As long as Sakurai can supervise the additional content being made at his leisure (hopefully), I don't think it will matter much who is making it. In a sense, we're lucky to have Sakurai controlling every aspect of the game because he can design the content and have others implement it and go from there.

Nice work on the wallpaper, Ive been using it!
