Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

there should be diddy kong racing music in smash

if mario kart can get its own stage, the superior kart racer should at least get some music

I will be sending them a briefcase filled with my life savings in protest.

But 3DS prints more money!!

Man you guys hyping the Tropical Freeze soundtrack makes me want to get it. I just got me a Wii U at Best Buy with W101, NSMBU, LuigiU, Rayman Legends, Nintendo Land, and 3D World. With the Gift Card I got, I'm thinking of picking up one more game. I was kinda underwhelmed by the first DKCR and I already have a lot of platformers on my plate. Decisions decisions.

And while we're talking about soundtracks, I hope to hear some Sticker Star music in the 3DS version:

Having all those games I would recommend you ZombiU and Toki Tori 2+ before DK:TF.

Galaxy games say otherwise.

That game's soundtrack and David Wise are way overrated.

I can kinda agree with David Wise been overrated because EVERYONE is just saying "omfg davud wose" when everyone is forgetting that Kenji Yamamoto arrangements are AT LEAST 1/3 of the reason why the soundtrack is glorious

From the sounds of it in interviews, Kenji Yamamoto just checked in with Wise occasionally via Skype. He was supervising, and he made the original rocketbarrel melody, but anyone familiar with Wise's work can tell the soundtrack of Tropical Freeze is nearly 100% Wise.

I haven't heard Tropical Freeze's soundtrack yet but it'll be hard to surpass DKC2's soundtrack.
David Wise has already surpassed his work on DKC2 -- and every Nintendo game -- with the soundtrack of Tropical Freeze.

Sample the following (just music, no footage), and remember, this is just a fraction of the whole OST:

Seashore War

Amiss Abyss

Grassland Groove

Wing Ding

Mangrove Cove (Underwater)

Busted Bayou

Windmill Hills

Alpine Incline

Scorch 'N' Torch

Cannon Canyon

Homecoming Hijinks

Aqueduct Assault

Big Top Bop

Punch Bowl

The legendary David Wise. *bow, bow*

Damn, the fuck is wrong with you guys. Let a mobile user read this thread in peace o.O
So much useless data transmission for players of embedded videos I'll never watch anyways. Data cap am cry.

The mobile site should really have an option to disable the embedded videos. Is it something with the mobile browsers, or has there been some rationale detailed for enabling those videos on mobile only? I've always just sort of wondered (always meaning since pretty recently when I first tried out the mobile version).

I find the DKC OST to be too.. atmospheric, I guess?
That's cool for those that are into that, but for me it isn't even in the same league as Galaxy, Xenoblade or Uprising.

You can disable the embedded videos. Click that corner square button and go to preferences. My life has been much better since disabling embedded videos, lol.

Too atmospheric? Listen to themes like Wing Ding, Busted Bayou, etc. Infectiously catchy melodies. :)

You're using MobileGAF wrong if you:
1. Have embedded videos enabled
2. Have embedded GIFs enabled
3. Use 50ppp instead of 100ppp (applies to full website GAF as well)
4. Have embedded images enabled (applies to certain threads such as this one)
5. Use the default theme of MobileGAF instead of Dark MobileGAF (applies to full website GAF as well)

All can be changed in Preferences.

first thing I did was turn off embedded vids and images for mobile gaf

shit was unbearable and made my phone freeze

also, first time I played DKC2 was before DKCR launch, on Virtual Console. I don't have any nostalgia for that game. the soundtrack blew my fucking balls off, something I can't say about TF.

It has a really, really great soundtrack, though. Probably the best on Wii U so far, and there's been some solid soundtracks on that console.

Galaxy games say otherwise.

Galaxy has a better all around soundtrack, but come on dude. Tropical Freeze has an incredible track. If I'm recommending tracks for an aspiring game composer, I'm telling them to listen to both.

Honestly the only negative on the TF OST for me is the direction he went with the remix of Stickerbrush Symphony, but other than that it is phenomenal. Especially Aquaduct Assault, Seashore War, Scorch N Torch & Alpine Incline. Sawmill mill thrill is straight up DKC2

So I take it that if a game recently appeared to a specific platform, said platform gets the recent stage while the other gets a generic stage yes (unless it has another recent game, like how Zelda has OoT 3DS and Skyward Sword)?

I think it's more like, for example, Wii U will get stage from Skyward Sword, 3DS will get stage from Link Between Worlds (again, just an example). Just keep stages on the platform they appeared on.

Wii U is getting Palutena's Temple or whatever it is called. Based on a location within the original Kid Icarus and was in KI:U as well.

did he mean Titanfall>Tropical Freeze or Tropical Freeze>Titanfall

The true crime is that there's no full version of the fucking hot jazzy remix that plays in the credits.

While on the subject of amazing composers, I'd like to say that Yoko Shimomura is my personal favourite =3 However, I can't really think of a good enough reason why her music should show up in smash other than "cuz it's soo gud"

EDIT: Top of the new page? I don't want =(

While I'm not sure I'd put Tropical Freeze's music above DKC 2's, it's certainly a brilliant soundtrack and one of the best-ever contemporary soundtracks.

I really, really hope Seashore War gets into Smash in some capacity. Best track from Tropical Freeze in my opinion!

Shimomura is my favorite composer too! She may yet be involved in Smash 4 in some capacity, too; she was responsible for a couple of Brawl's arrangements (like the Tetris Type A one), so Sakurai has certainly shown that he knows who the best of the best is to call on when it comes to Smash's music.

The environmental art in Tropical Freeze is so good, I'd love a stage set on any of its islands (but especially Autumn Heights).* I know this isn't likely, though, since Smash only sparingly references stuff that came out the same generation as itself. Still, though, TF has some of my favorite environmental art since BioShock Infinite.**

* Note: The DKCTF screens at the link were taken by me, MYE, Xtortionist, EatChildren, Robin64 and others.

** Note: I also have a BioShock Infinite gallery, from my two playthroughs. Songbird for third-party rep!
