Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

The theme in the trailer sounds like an arrangement of the 'Health' theme from the first game. $5 bucks says the music in her reveal trailer was her victory fanfare.

Ahh yeah, I can recognize the melody from the trailer. I guess they made it fanfare-ish in Smash. And no wonder, my only Wii Fit item is Plus and not the original.

EDIT: Apparently it's also the Yoga and Strength theme?

EDIT: Actually, can someone try to come up with an interesting moveset for Alph, Charlie, or Brittany? That would be neat to see what ideas someone could come up with since the source material has so much "constraints".

All 3 of them at once with a Pikmin each for the rep. They'll have a totem-pole formation, a cartwheel formation, and a pyramid formation. This shall kill the two birds of a new Pikmin rep and a W101 rep with one stone.

No, I'm not being serious

I suspected that we might get Alph as secret character because of Nintendo of America's Twitter. They said Alph got announced for Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U; backtracked and deleted the twitter. They released Olimar twitter later on.

Got a screencap of that?

EDIT: Found one, and it's not even spelled right. Just an error.

I kinda hope we don't get Alph. He's boring conceptually. We know he's going to pretty much be Olimar with different Pikmin types. Rock Pikmin will be heavier and do more damage when thrown. The winged Pikmin will help him fly. It's very limiting.

I mean, I guess they could overhaul his base moveset, but chances of that are slim.

How about if Alph's abilities were affected by a "fruit drink" count? When you play as Alph, unique fruit items appear on the stage that Alph can collect, which adds to a rations counter. The more you collect, moves may change or become stronger. On the other hand, not collecting fruit will make Alph tire out quick.

Winged pikmin could extend his grab range, while rock pikmin attacks do solid damage against shields. Rock pikmin could also form around Alph, making him into a rolling wrecking ball!

I want to see Alph join the roster because I like the character, and I think some Smash characters like Ness and Lucas compliment each other pretty well. I'm sure Olimar and Alph could be like that too.

I can see Alph being a Lucas/Falco/Toon Link style clone with similar B moves but a different set of a moves along with rock/flying pikmin to give his attacks different properties.

That's a neat concept, despite being heavily focused on luck for the fruit spawn points--it makes for a wildly different gameplay style. I like it, though aesthetically, Alph is pretty boring as he has a similar build/design to Olimar. At least Brittany or Charlie has notable differences, but I do like your idea.

I'd say the same thing about Lucas compared to Ness and they both managed to make it into Brawl

I'd probably have said the same thing too before I knew they were both going to make it. I enjoy it when the roster has a diversity of aesthetics to compliment playstyles. Ness and Lucas can be forgiven though as they're tenured (though Paula or Jeff would've been better IMO). Alph on the other hand...I just personally think he'll take away from Olimar's already unique role unless he has a wildly different moveset.

Well I'm assuming like Lucas (and Falco/Toon Link/Gandondorf) that his a moves would be radically different and the only thing that would be similar would be B specials though some could be made slightly different depending on if he had flying or rock pikmin in his team.

I wouldn't blow a gasket though if he were ever revealed, but since he hasn't been revealed, my stance is that I'd prefer for him to not be in =p

But yeah, the flying and rock Pikmin would make for a few differences in specials.

I think it could happen if the unlockable characters are mostly new clones, like in Melee. Namco Bandai are helping develop this game, and they don't seem to be adverse to clones, considering TTT2...

Pikmin Olimar Olimar Pikmin, same thing. My point was it's a label that has two names yet only given one slot and yet another pair with a similar naming scheme is given two. Whoever made the pic was inconsistent.
Oh, I know what you meant. I was saying that as to make your point even more significant since it has Pikmin first and then Olimar second which makes the lack of Pikmin on there while Luma gets its own rectangle even weirder.

I'm prepping myself for it because it just makes too much sense, easy way to fill up the roster while making more Luigi esque characters that are just different enough.

Maybe He Fit Trainer is an Adventure Mode boss and we're hyping ourselves over nothing.

The new story mode uses a Kirby-like system of areas, and Genderswap Jungle is a late-game hub. You have to fight bosses like Master Chief Male Samus, He Fit Trainer, Ms. Pac Man, Female Villager, Female Pokemon Trainer, Male Rosalina & Crossfit Luma, Female Wario, Female Link, and Frieza Female Mewtwo.
His headbutt would be devastating.

Mewtwo is genderless, it should be Female Pikachu instead (since we don't have a Female alt yet).

Design wise? No lol. Olimar looks like he was a placeholder concept character they used to represent the character in layouts of the world and they lazily chose to use him. It looks like they put effort into Alph and his crew.

"Pic of the Day: It seems the Americans have to suffer Daylight Savings Time now. So to celebrate, here is another returning item: The Timer!"

Bad joke is bad, I know lol

Woah, what? No. I disagree. Strongly. Alph and co. aren't really any more visually interesting than Olimar/Louie at all, and all of them are fairly unique in their visual presentation. They stand out from being "generic spacemen" very well, and it would have been easy to halfass their designs when the Pikmin are the real stars of the game.

Odds of Mew-Two coming back are slim but I'm still hoping. Was my favorite character melee and couldn't get as into brawl without him.
Considering Mewtwo was heavily used in advertising for Pokemon XY, I think his chances are... much, much higher than slim.

Also, you should totally try Project M. Mewtwo is great in that.

So the smash one too ? =P

Nah, the coloring's just different in the show...every Jigglypuff looks like that. In fact, I'm pretty sure that pic's from a Battle Frontier Episode that didn't even have the old Jigglypuff (who hasn't been seen since early Hoenn), but a different one.

I really hope they fix this in this next Smash Bros., assuming Jigglypuff's back.

I dunno, I feel like keeping it emphasizes that Smashpuff is special somehow. Not that this was an issue prior to me seeing that image and realizing it (holy shit) mind you.

Edit: Wait, is Smashpuff rosier or shiny colored? I'd know for sure checking my P:M stuff, but I'm using custom textures and forgot. :lol

Jigglypuff can't be shiny because it doesn't do that light ring thing Ash's Noctowl did.

G2 Hoothoot was my first shiny catch. I encountered a Rhyhorn and a Yanma back then but ran out of Pokeballs on them. :/

Dunno if I have the time for that kind of stuff in Pokemon anymore.
