Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Give Ganondorf's current move set to Black Shadow or another F-Zero character, give Ganondorf a sword and a move set that fits his character BOOM everyone is happy
But then we have another F-Zero character and Ganondorf mains can't play as their favorite character anymore, so nobody's happy.

K. Rool is a badly designed Bowser in a crown.

I mean look at that shit, it's everything bad about 90's character design in a nutshell.

If only there were some designs after the nineties we could use as a reference...

Okay, here's my totally not half-assed attempt at a Smash K. Rool.

Notes:

- Crown embroidered on the jacket. Debated having him dual-wield a pirate hat and a crown, somehow.
- Uses Cranky Kong's cane for reach; could use it to snare enemies and reel them into combos.
- Toe rings because fuck you he's blingin'.
- Gold belly / pecs are armor.
- Tries to hide some of his pudge with his overly baggy jacket.
- Right, non-bloodshot eye now has a slit pupil like an actual crocodile. (Alligator?)
- Gave him pants for the sake of breaking up the composition and matching with the cane a little bit. Dude seems a little bit too under-designed while still having humanoid proportions to be able to pull off the no-pants look nowadays compared to, say, Bowser.
- Smash logo is on his gold chain.

Once again: I know virtually nothing about the DK 'verse, just going off of the K. Rool pics that get tossed around here every now and then. I'm sorry if I've offended DK religious nuts anywhere.

EDIT: Dammit, it'd be awesome to have his jacket in the style of his cape shown above. Quick and dirty edit:

DOUBLE EDIT:

Design takes absolutely no inspiration from American Dad's take on Chauncey Chocodile.

I don't understand why Kojima would suddenly not allow Snake to return. He's still friends with Sakurai, and it's easy publicity for Konami. The "irrelevant to Nintendo" argument never held water either since that irrelevance is why Snake was included to begin with -- Kojima thought putting Snake in Brawl would be a good way of introducing the character to the Nintendo audience. Even though he's hardly a "Nintendo all-star," Snake's status as a gaming icon justifies his inclusion. Nothing about that has changed since Brawl.

Another way of introducing a video game character to a Nintendo audience is releasing their video games on a Nintendo device that plays video games. Snake has bad manners. He invited himself to a Nintendo all-star dinner party and ate the last piece of roast beast. Kick that jerk out!

on the contrary, that makes Snake a champion

Jun the Swan needs to return in a fighting game in some form.

Explosive Yoyos? Best character. Smash add someone like her.

I like the idea of Ganondorf being able to swap between his sword and his old moveset. That would be a good compromise methinks.

Man people at Smashboards think Nintendo is going to announce something at EVO. It's amazing how they like setting themselves up for disappointment.

It just seems like a lot of work for something that has no basis in Zelda's source material. Ganondorf either fights with a sword in any given Zelda game or he fights without it -- he doesn't switch it up at will. I think a "form change" mechanic should be reserved for somebody else... though I'm not exactly sure who. There must be a Nintendo character out there who shifts between various fight styles.

Not Nintendo, but Musashi (from Brave Fencer Musashi) stole enemy weapon styles.

It's kinda like all the smash characters are movie stars and snake gets to be in their movie but he won't let them even watch his.

And he only stars in remakes of action flicks from the eighties.

Shiek haha.

Mario with powerups.

Ditto Kirby.

Fire emblem chars for the most part can equip and upgrade different weapon paths.

Metaknight would be the perfect reveal for the EVO crowd.

Only vaguely related to Smash Bros., but did anyone else find today's Brawl in the Family "comic" cringeworthy? Everyone in Matthew's forums is like "D'aaaawww you made me cry", and not at all bothered by the fact that two weeks after his dog dies Matt feels like he has to make an elaborate "tribute to pets" video where Yoshi inexplicably acts like a dog (like he's never done in any BitF strip or any Nintendo game ever).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EscOE4sSYOo

It's one thing to let your pain bleed into your art, its another thing to use your weekly funny strip as a platform in which to do so in the most forced, nonsensical way. Despite having a loose canon, have the characters ever been inconsistently portrayed in the comic? No. But here it's OK, because it's an allegory for pet loss and blah, blah, blah. On YouTube they're acting like it's the Citizen Kane of Nintendo comics, but I think it's just painful to look at. I think he'll be embarrassed by it one day when he looks back on his work as a whole. TL;DR, Yoshi is not a dog, has never acted like a dog, this comic strip video is a cheap grab at reader's heartstrings that is sadly connected to Matt's own personal life in a very unfunny way. </entitled angry BitF fan rant>
