Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

You know what is equally as bad as artificial hype and then whining? Just whining about the POTD which some do as seen by today.
There's always every week up to launch for any reveal. There's no reason to keep assuming a reveal will coincide with some release somewhere in the world. Let the hype build naturally with time and confirmation; this artificial hype is depressing.
Pointing out a Japanese release date is not artificial hype and not dumb. Thinking a reveal is 100% confirmed because of a release date is stupid.

There is an obvious correlation between game releases in Japan and reveals. Obviously it won't apply to every game nor will it apply 100% of the time. That's why you just acknowledge it as a date that a reveal could potentially happen.

Clearly I don't. Everyone tells me it's just jokes but.. It isn't funny. Just annoying. Eh. I'll just take my leave. Don't wanna start anything.

Trust me, the intense artifical hype and over-exaggerated disappointment is not a joke.

Yes, I may whine at a pic every now and then but many of these people severly overhype and come crashing down almost everytime.

It's not just you.

Someone once made mockups explaining/showing how characters planned for past smash games all made it into future renditions.

Anyone still got the images and/or link to the post explaining that?

Artificial hype followed by whining. Not the kind of community I wanna be a part of I guess. /: It's too hard to tolerate.

Irony enough that people who are whining about artificial hypes and whines are getting annoying as well. Do what I did, Don't pay attention to people who complained and whined.

We can't control what people want to do. If Emcee don't see anything wrong with it then let them to be. They are going to hurt themselves if they kept it up with artificial hypes. At long, we are being reasonable members with a lot of patience with the updates, etc and go with the logic as possible as we can. It's okay to have hype but don't overboard with it tho because we will ended up hurting ourselves.

This man understands.

If you agreed with him then I expect seeing you not whining about the pictures like today anymore. :P

Yeah, you're actually right. There are a lot of people here I enjoy! Just a lot of bad ones as well. Guess that's what the ignore feature is for.

How many times has a release date coincided with a reveal again? Yeah, it's almost entirely baseless going off previous reveals.

Sound like every video games communities, but I think we had it better in this thread and NeoGAF comparing to other forums that I have heard of and seen. Like Miiverse.

Japanese release date is still pretty good for main games. Only time they didn't reveal any characters are Pokemon X/Y and Donkey Kong Country Return 2. I think that's all.

Said it better than I could've, thank you.

I see where you guys come from, but there's a line to be drawn. Remember, every single day is a potential reveal. The likelihood of a reveal coinciding with a release might increase the probability of a reveal, but some people rely on it and build up with so much hype (followed by meltdowns, which is what I find foul and off putting). Some people in this thread can't draw the line. Some can. I guess I have no reason to complain since many game communities are like this.

Protip for people:

who want to build hypes;

DO NOT APPLY THE RULE TOWARD TO AMERICAN RELEASE DATE only because it happened with Donkey Kong Country Return 2. It happened because Direct was released on same day as release date for Japanese.

Don't expect character reveals for Spin-Off Games such as Mario Party, etc. Sakurai already recognized Mario Kart as main franchises by adding the stages in Smash series.

I whinge about a single 3DS image and people act as if I murdered a man.

Well, you are holding Palutena's decapitated head in your hand.

I think it would be easier to list everything and what they are related to.

Not related to game release dates:
Luigi (some people say it is related to Dream Team, but it was definitely revealed for the Year of Luigi)
Peach (Mario anniversary)
Sonic (Nintendo Direct for Sonic Lost World, 3rd party characters probably have a bigger reveal than other veterans)
Marth (completely random)
Rosalina & Luma (Nintendo Direct)
Lucario (Brawl anniversary)
Little Mac (Nintendo Direct, Punch-Out anniversary)

Related to game release dates:
Pikmin & Olimar (Pikmin 3)
Toon Link (Wind Waker HD)
Zelda (A Link Between Worlds)
King Dedede (Kirby Triple Deluxe)
Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze)

These are the patterns:
- Every international direct will reveal a character, newcomer or veteran (Luigi, Sonic, Rosalina & Luma, Little Mac)
- Anniversaries (Peach, Lucario)
- Release dates (Pikmin & Olimar, Toon Link, Zelda, King Dedede, Diddy Kong)

Some things to note:
- Diddy Kong was revealed on an western release date due to the fact that the Japanese release date has passed.
- Marth is really the only random one. Though Rosalina & Luma are random in a sense too due, but the fact a character was revealed wasn't, so it isn't the same.
- Spin-offs are probably not going to have reveals.
- There is no true pattern, so nothing is confirmed beyond international Nintendo Directs.

Yea, I totally get what you're saying. Some people don't seem to be able to draw the line between a possibility to most likely.

I think Mario Party Island Tour could have a reveal, but it is definitely not confirmed. Then there is the fact it a spin-off and not some sort of mainline game. The only spin-off that is not really viewed like a spin-off is Mario Kart.

Had no idea the list was so long. I half-concede, but my original point stands of course. When is the JP release for Yoshi's Boring Island?

Right, that's a good point. The reveals were probably planned ahead of time and did have DKTF for November and 3D World for December.

Summer 2014

I always assumed Diddy was planned for November but the switched release dates required a change in plans, hence leading to Marth as the only character without any clear pattern.

I say to just let people be and block any user you find too annoying, easy as pie.

I do like to get into the "artificial hype", because hey, this is the game I bought a Wii U for. When Brawl was about to be released, I wasn't a GAFer. I'd have a blast reading the Dojo, sure, but I can only imagine how much fun people had while doing so -together-, as part of a community. It's just neat to stay up, see the cracks people come up with because the update is late, and then whatever the outcome is, the reactions are bound to be memorable. It's all in good fun, for me. I love when Sakurai delivers the megatons, I love when he delivers not-so-exciting updates. Why, I daresay I enjoy people's reactions as much or even more than the updates themselves. This is a great community, and I'm happy to be a part of it.

It's mostly the sense of entitlement coming from some users, and the creepy anime shit that pops up occasionally. I can block these users though. I won't whine about whiners anymore.

Honestly Kojima can take his wanting Snake and stick it. Even if he know it's doubtful just the joke about it really annoys me for some reason. Nintendo would be beyond stupid to okay this though knowing full well they'll get nothing in return. It's not like Mega Man where Capcom clearly doesn't give a damn about the IP these days. Or Sonic where Nintendo has a good relationship with Sega. What did adding Snake in Brawl result in? A several year old MGS3 on the 3DS of very questionable quality that was undercut before it was even released. There are two Metal Gear Solid games coming out. Why in the hell would Nintendo okay free advertising for that IP towards their already low customer base when they need to get more people to buy their games and systems. Snake just directs more people toward those coming MGS games.

good lord

Neither of them are really debatable. Any argument against those two amounts to, "I don't personally like the characters, so they must be something else."
I don't see where you're getting this from at all. Toon Sheik isn't a character, and Plusle and minun aren't explicitly mentioned.
