Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

That sidescrolling level looks good, the main problem with Mushroomy Kingdom for me was the lack of pits which would've made it more interesting, and this looks like it has a lot of variation. They did what they could with the first SMB level in Brawl but for a sidescrolling stage it was pretty boring.

I was thinking of just how fucking cool a Sanctuary Fortress stage would be. It would be an elevator that goes up and down three sections, with stuff like a circular spider ball platform that characters naturally stick to and parts where the entire stage switches to the Dark Aether version so that you take slow damage if you go outside the safe-zones.

Or maybe they could go one step further and have Quadraxis as a stage where you fight on top of the robot and can use its head as a platform that occasionally floats around.
i think R.L. Stein and Smuph have competition as my favorite original characters

God, I hated Lumiose City. I can't imagine why the playtesters didn't call attention to how terrible it is.

Every time I think of Sanctuary Fortress...it just gives me a good feeling. It would make for an amazing stage and would look so good in HD.

It must be written someplace in Sakurai's contract that he is permitted to phone in the Metroid stages. Makes me sad. Phendrana Drifts, Sanctuary Fortress, or Skytown could easily be more interesting than any metroid stage we've ever actually had.

I don't now why people always suggest stuff like Phendrana Drifts for a Metroid stage in Smash Bros. I mean, sure, it would be pretty cool...but it doesn't really seem like the best stage to represent the franchise. I can't really comment on some of the other suggestions from the other Prime games because I've only played Metroid Prime and some of Prime 2 so far, but I feel like the stages that Sakurai has chosen to represent the franchise with so far in the Smash Bros. games are great. They feel very "Metroid-y," lol. I don't think a stage like Phendrana Drifts would. It's an awesome location from an excellent Metroid game, sure, but I think part of the reason why it's such a neat location is because it's not your typical Metroid location.

Those and Phaaze would be amazing.
Phaaze would he really easy to pull off too. Just do a single organic blue final destination-y platform with a really cool background. You can basically still phone it in too, because anything blue and tentacally would still look like Phaaze. It'd still be sweet because there's no lava.

Bolded parts pretty much answer your own question. It's just what the fans want because they are some of the coolest places in the games. Also while the previous stages do showcase what Metroid is about as a franchise, we're getting tired of "lava here, lava there" type stages lol.

In order to be Metroid-y, it needs to have a sci-fi feel to it or some mysterious organic/natural kinda look. It does not need to contain lava.

Let's look at the Metroid levels in every Smash game

Super Smash Bros 64
  • Planet Zebes: Floating platform with rising and lowering lava.
Super Smash Bros Melee
  • Brinstar: A lava-filled cavern with rising and lowering lava. Basically a Planet Zebes rehash.
  • Brinstar Depths: A lava-filled cavern with a rotating center section and a giant alien in the background. Looks nothing like the actual Brinstar.
Super Smash Bros Brawl
  • Frigat Orpheon: An industrial room with a rotating center section and a giant alien in the background. First Metroid stage without lava.
  • Norfair: A lava-filled cavern with rising and lowering lava.
  • Brinstar: Same stage as in Melee.
Super Smash Bros 4
  • Pyrosphere: A lava-filled industrial room.

It's hard to not call them half-assed. There are plenty of unique, iconic Metroid locations that aren't lava-filled caverns or dingy industrial locations, and that's not just looking at the prime games. Does Chozodia ring a bell? How about the Ghost Ship?

On a sidenote, I didn't realize Mother Brain was confirmed as an Assist Trophy. Awesome.

haha nice.

Question, out of the newcomers so far, who are you looking forward to putting some practice into? Is there any new characters so far you think you'd like to get the most out of before deciding if their worth it? I remember for Brawl it was Ike for me. I was happy he was in and I had to main him. heh

So far I'm leaning towards Mac and Luma and Rosalina. Mac seems like a guy you can be pretty reckless with but at the same time you have to be wary of how close you are to the ledge. Those jab combos, super frames, his speed, and power punches.. mac looks like a lot of fun and I can't wait to see how people make the best out of him. Luma seems like the opposite of Mac but the idea of having a puppet you can control (Rosalina) at anytime looks awesome.

Megaman and villager for me. Megaman because he's awesome and villager because his moveset seems like a lot of fun.

Just saw the 3D Land stage, I was gonna say it's really boring but now I see it transitions as the stage progresses I've changed my mind. Never doubt Sakurai.

Mega Man and Little Mac. They seem the most compatible with my playstyle.

I'm probably gonna juggle current mains Kirby, Cap. Falcon and Sonic with Mega Man and Little Mac, presently.

Although I suspect Rosalina might end up being high-tier for one reason or another.

Megaman and Wii Fit Trainer

Megaman because.... he is megaman

Wii Fit Trainer because of how awesome her animations are and how hilarious is the idea that someone fights with yoga moves

I think I want to try out rosalina first, then wii fit trainer, then megaman, then lil mac and then finally the villager, this is all subject to change ofcouse when more newcomers get announced.

Truthfully I don't really wanna try out any of the current newcomers. I really wanna try out bowser almost more than anything.

haha nice.

Villager is probably the one I'm looking forward to most right now. He's got a pretty sweet gimmick, and I like fighting game characters who utilize a bunch of different junk to fight with

So......Kid Icarus Uprising came out on March 22 (Japan), 23 (America) and 29 (Europe).

It's already the 18th, and we are due for a character reveal this month (Poor Yoshi), so if Sakurai were to announce a certain green goddess, it could possibly be Friday the 21st, Monday the 24th, or, possible Friday the 28th

It would be in a Nintendo Direct, and I doubt we're getting one this month.

If he does anything special at all on one of those days, it'll be a shot of the Wii U Kid Icarus stage.

Before all else, I always play Smash as the newest incarnation of Marth because I have to see what kinds of changes he received in the transition. Pit will guaranteed be right after him and Fox last. After this, I'll move on to newcomers. So far RosaLuma >>> Megaman >>>>>>>> Little Mac/Wii Fit Trainer >>>>>>> Villager. This isn't because of any hate however, it's just who I'm most hype to break down and my own specific biases.

I'm making the call now, I bet the game will have a 48 character roster. We're already at 24 characters and release date isn't even immediate, so there has to be over 35 characters or else they'd be revealing them a bit too quickly.

Or Hades, who is clearly a better character choice than Pretty Paleutena.

Let me have this, please.

Gawrsh, I hope so. I know it's hard to balance a lot of characters, but really, who's going to say "this roster is too big!" on the player end?

Well I feel like I am in the minority here, but I am really excited to try out Wii Fit Trainer. She seems pretty mobile with faster hitting smash attacks (from her release trailer). Like someone above posted, the idea of kicking people's trash with Wii Fit Trainer is just too much to pass up for me. As much as I am excited for Megaman's inclusion, I fear that I won't enjoy playing as him as his playstyle just doesn't really mesh with my current playstyle (I main DeDeDe and Ganondorf along with the Random button). Little Mac seems like someone I would really like; he seems like he can take quite a bit of damage as well as dish it back out. Rosalina i'm torn on, I really enjoy playing as Olimar and Pikmin but hate playing as ice climbers and I really just can't tell if I will enjoy her or not. Villager seems like a troll character and I could see myself having some fun with him occasionally.

Excluding extreme optimists and skeptics, I'd say most are expecting between 45 and 50 characters tops.

Edit: Wii Fit Trainer is going to be the online character of choice just so that people can flex on you after bodying you.

On the topic of Lumiose City, I should finally start playing Y or X.

Have all of the Lumiose City problems been patched by now? Do I need to do anything special to download the patch, and/or is there anything I should still be especialy careful to avoid (like avoiding saving outside a building in Lumiose City)?
