Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I believe in a New Smash World

Where both Smash 4 and Melee/Project M can exist happily with little to no quarrels will exist.

Like we don't have competitive elitists too. It's all the same level of dumb.

I see way less of those than casual elitists (simply because there are, by default, more casual players). I see it everywhere, people just hating on how competitive players play the same game, how they're playing it "wrong", or how items being on takes "more skill" etc etc.

And age has absolutely zero hold on if a game should be played competitively. The people bad mouthing the Melee players are the ones who don't even play competitively in the first place. Because they would know that age of a title =/= being played at EVO, and other venues for sport.

Time to hang up Marvel 3, Street Fighter 4, and all the other old games!

The generalizations are really dumb. There are many, many, many people in the competitive scene who are nice, respectful people who just enjoy playing competitively.

There is always the Internet loud mouths for any community that makes them look bad, but please don't view them as the whole community.
what's up with all the insults
lol, you know you dun goofed if theprodigy thinks it is bad.
Smash community is filled with casual elitists. And I say this as a casual player.
Smash is filled with elitists. Period.

The elitists are the obnoxious ones on either end of it.

Oh oh, SmashGAF is getting hostile. I'll just back away.

Also I'm really, really interested in how Wolf gets Smash 4'd. Unlike Fox his fur is a bit more visible and his clothing is different in material.

Skull Kid's an Assist Trophy, Midna is not important, and we already have Toon Link.

If the Zelda series gets a newcomer, it's going to be Toon Zelda/Tetra. It's not a matter of personal taste -- she's objectively the only Zelda character left with a significant enough role to warrant playability.

 1. She was planned for Brawl, but there wasn't enough time to include her.
 2. Toon Zelda and/or Tetra appears in a handful of games, including three released since Brawl's roster was decided upon: Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and Wind Waker HD.
Laugh at me now all you want, but you'll see that I'm right by the end of the year.
I think the only way I'd like for Toon Zelda to be a character is if she was an original character and not like Toon Link is to regular Link. She could transform into her Phantom form or Tetra not being a Sheik clone. Granted if I recall correctly there was also data for a toon Sheik so I think I'd prefer no Toon Zelda if that were the case. I also disagree with your assertion that Toon Zelda is the only viable character, using that logic we would have had characters like Toad and Bowser Jr. before Rosalina.

1. Impa- she's been in 7 titles including the original Zelda she has a couple of games where she played a significant role that we could devise a moveset around.

2. Tingle- has had 3 spinoff games and been in several LoZ games. Only major downfall is his unpopularity in the west. Although I think the hatred for him has gone away and I think the west would be a lot more accepting of the games and character now then in the past. Kinda like how MM & WW have developed their own little base years after release, I think opinion of him has turned around a bit from hatred to indifference.

3. Ganon- It might be a way to satisfy both fans of his smash form and those who want a more original moveset to have Ganondorf transform into his pig form and he could use more iconic moves. They could do something fun and have all the Triforce bearers have a transformation. Zelda would have Sheik, Ganondorf would have Ganon and Link could have Wolf Link/Midna.

To back up his point: Super Street Fighter II Turbo is on the roster this year.

This shit again? Really?

Contrary to what either side tells you, there's dickery on both ends. Regardless, just ignore the elitists and stick to whatever method of play suits you best.

The idea that we're still going through both of these types of elitism in 2014... Why does this fan base want people to think they hate themselves for having options?

Also I'm really, really interested in how Wolf gets Smash 4'd. Unlike Fox his fur is a bit more visible and his clothing is different in material.

Based on the fur-bearers shown thus far, I'm betting on him being gorgeous. I'm hoping he gets a redesign, though. I posted an image a few pages ago of how badass he could be.

I think if a Zelda newcomer gets announced, it's going to be Skyward Sword Impa.

I'm not going to write a 500 word essay on why, though. It seems pretty obvious.

So why isn't Nintendo using EVO to promote their new game as well by showcasing a match of Smash 4 and maybe involving some of the top players or some developers? Smash fans get hype, EVO viewers might get hype. Nothing to lose.

It's too smart for Nintendo. They don't understand the free advertising they'd get.

this is Nintendo
use your imagination

I'm guessing that casual players just don't like that competitive players paint brawl in a negative light so they try to dismiss their opinions.

Sounds like the definition of a hostile audience.

Agreed, and well said. As someone who probably loses tact and ends up being too much of a competitive jerk at times, it can get annoying when you just want to goof around. Same basic deal for the other end of the spectrum.

Melee is bloody ancient anyway.
Oh, I forgot that made it a worse game. Don't tell that to the people that compete at Chess, Soccer, Donkey Kong, Super Metroid, or Mario 64, etc though. I don't think they realize it.

To be fair though, I can't think of any other fighting game that has stayed so much more popular (and better <.<) than all its sequels. Maybe Soul Calibur from II until before V came out? Maybe KoF 98 until 13? I enjoy Third Strike more than IV, but obviously it didn't stick. I don't really know of any other case quite like Melee's though.

Hahaha, SmashGAF fiercely defending its reputation again :/

(Also, I see WAY more competitive elitists. Might only be /r/smashbros though

Guys. All I care about is Ganondorf. Save the fighting for kicking each other's ass when the game comes out. Okay?

Wait, is it really confirmed about Nintendo stopping Melee in EVO?

From Shoryuken:

Regarding Super Smash Bros. Melee

Last year’s Smash event was amazing, and what the Smash community has done over the last year has been inspirational. We still have room in our lineup for Smash, and we’re in discussions with Nintendo regarding a possible role for Smash in 2014. Here is a statement from Nintendo regarding the situation.
While we are engaged in preliminary discussions with Evo about their upcoming event in July, the potential role of any Nintendo software at this event is undetermined at this time.

Sounds like code for "it ain't happening" to me.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying old games. I'm saying that there comes a point where it needs to move out of the spotlight.

It sounds like "We're a doing cost-benefit analysis" to me.
Let's not go to one extreme or the other until we have definitive word. It's not like it affects us in any major way.

I'm not sure it seems any more obvious than, say, Toon Zelda -- a character who appears to have been actually planned for Brawl at one point, and who may have had some work done for her that would still be relevant after Wind Waker HD and the DS Zeldas.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on why SS Impa would be likely. I don't have any feelings either way with regards to that character.

I really hope it happens, SS Impa is one of the coolest and most visually distinct characters in a Nintendo game in the last few years. Would be cool if her move set involved both her youthful and aged forms.

Third Strike was absent from two Evos in the early 2000s because everyone liked Super Turbo better back then, and I'm pretty sure ST was still the most popular SF entry until IV came out. And, once again, it's back this year.

OK, now -that- would be interesting, and would be classic Sakurai to work in both forms.

there's been a total of one Smash game that's been "passed over" (not really, Brawl still has a scene anyway on top of a year at MLG before Nintendo *gasp* didn't respond to MLG's streaming requests, so don't use the "because it's not the most recent game" argument!)

Can't we all just get along?

Seriously though one reason why i sort of like mario kart more than smash is that people aren't as serious. Similarly to why i'm not biggest fan of pokemon meta game.

It really doesn't matter how you play it, just play the game.

I don't get involved in competitive Pokemon. I just play around with my Tyranitar and that's good enough for me.

I started to type out a big reply, but screw it. You don't know what you are talking about, and I'm just going to leave it at that.

at this point, I don't even really care for ganondorf, give me Girahaim or hell demise instead, both are more interesting than ganondorf

It's kinda hard to imagine the faces ganondorf will make if he's in smash for wii u :d

I'd love to play as SSJ3 Akuma with a Sword.

When people ask me I always say that i'm "More Pokémaniac / Poké Collector than Ace Trainer" haha

I literally love trying "to catch them all" and am perfectly content with that.

I was just making an offhand comment that melee is old.

If Smash 4 is actually released in time for Evo, they have good reason not to let melee: and they can't really let evo know the release date otherwise it'll be leaked. This is one huge "if" and will backfire if there is a delay: in this case, Melee is a pretty safe bet to be there.

There may be other internal reasons, who knows. Again, we don't know if it's actually being cancelled or not. If they have no new justifications and 4 doesn't make it in time, melee will be there. If it isn't there, there will be backlash unless the justifications are plainly obvious as well as reasonable: new internal reasoning is worth fuck-all against a fanbase that you keep the knowledge of your inner workings away from.

cant feign inorance, we know why we want SS impa, we all do :p

You're right, ST is the better example.

That's fair. But I think for that to happen, there needs to be something new to fill that niche. No one makes competent Smash knock offs (nice try though Sony, maybe next time), and Nintendo doesn't put out competitively comparable sequels.

I will kill all newcomers not named Isa Jo, Hades, or Shulk with my bare hands, until we get one of listed newcomers.

I'll take Bayonetta or Wonder Red as well

I'd rather wait for the game to be out to judge it. :p
