I will legitimately be surprised if there's DLC characters. Costumes maybe, but I can't see Sakurai as being a guy who'll do that seeing as how much care he puts into balancing and making the best roster he can.

I've thought from the start he'll be a secret unlockable and I see no reason to change my view now.

We're mostly just going off Sal's last leak which seemed pretty confident DLC characters were happening.
Something which would make me feel better is if maybe Smash Wii U launches with a few more characters than the 3DS version so they still have some content to get people excited after the first version launches, and those new characters are free-DLC for the 3DS version when the Wii U version launches.
Didn't a lot of people consider his playstyle pretty bad? I didn't care playing as him because of his moveset, and I always thought Lucario was a better design for the style.
Because of that, I don't see him coming back either.
Nintendo is embracing the DLC model, and are pushing Smash Bros. out as fast as they can get Sakurai to get it done. I wouldn't doubt he has a giant list of what he wants in as far as characters go, and has been slowly axing them as time goes by. Being able to, after finished with the initial titles, go back and finish up the characters he had plus potentially add balancing patches would be great for both him and us consumers.
Or if you believe the Sal Romano leak, it sounds like DLC was always planned to obtain more cash.

Eh, I (sort of) figured this was going to happen before SSB4 was properly revealed last year but nah, it'd be really harring to have Demise but the TP designs for Link/Zelda/Sheik.
