SmashGAF, Golden Sun or Earthbound next? I need some help deciding!
Oooh man, that's a tough call...I'd say Earthbound is the more bizarre / original of the two, so if you want a game experience that's unlike any other game I'd go with that. That being said, Golden Sun is a pretty much perfect RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy / Dragon Quest with some Zelda-style puzzle solving thrown in, so if you want something a little more traditional (but just as awesome) it'll do quite nicely.

But, honestly, there's no wrong choice here. Both are amazing games.

Hahaha, nice cake reference

Kirby is insane, rampaging across Dreamland because trivial matters such as that

I remember he's named after Sam Raimi.

Well, maybe he'll show up as an assist trophy tonight.

Still, it stands that he rampaged across Dreamland on a murdering spree because a mouse stole his cake

When you put it like that...

And I thought Triple Deluxe was ultraviolent with its continued bloodlust for the defenseless characters in Kirby's path.

As one of this thread's resident Mother fans, I wholeheartedly recommend that you play Earthbound as soon as possible.
I've also never played Golden Sun, so I can't say anything about it one way or another.

Speaking of Kirby, after going on a YouTube music binge recently, I have to ask. Why is this series so consistently blessed with great music?

Because Kirby songs sound great when remixed, and most Kirby songs are just remixes of older Kirby songs.

It really is crazy how good the music is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS4QHo0MlQo

There's just something about most Kirby music that you literally don't hear anywhere else but in Kirby games. The compositions all have this identity created from the samples used for the songs and Hirokazu Ando's ability to play with every kind of mood while making the most whimsical shit ever.

If I had to do a list, I'd be here forever. Recently though, I've been listening to a lot of Ripple Star, Butter Building, C-R-O-W-N-E-D, and generally a lot of Crystal Shards/Return To Dreamland music and it's really hit me just how much I enjoy Kirby music. It's like Nintendo's Megaman really.

Kirby's music is pretty catchy that's why they're so good. And they're easy to remember and to hum. Green Greens and Gourmet Race comes to mind.

It reminds of how the score for the original Kingdom Hearts game was able to nail the playful and serious sides of things so well. It's so cool that Butter Building and Miracle Matter both hail from the same game series.

Speaking of music, I'm sure we've discussed this, but how does everyone feel about Smash 4's Theme now that we've heard it's menu theme mix?

Personally, my favorite Kirby soundtrack is Canvas Curse, which literally had about 4 original songs. 2 of these were menu and end credit themes, and 2 were for the final boss.

Kirby and Pokemon both have soundtracks that I can just not get enough of. I am glad that Sakurai always puts a ton of songs from each of these franchises into the game.

How is it that some people still have Gamecube controllers from 2002 that work perfectly fine. Melee wore the shit of the main stick on my GC controller, I have bought a replacement since. And will be buying the new Smash Edition ones 'cause the fact that we're getting them is awesome. But it still surprises me when I see my friends GC controller intact. He played about as much as I did, over 1000 hours. Add Brawl to that as well.

Kirby 64 is the only mainline entry I haven't played. :/

Anyway, drop it like it's hot.

I have some immense nostalgia for Kirby 64 even though it's definitely not as fast as some of the top tier Kirby games. The combination of music (seriously, that game has songs that define an era of my gaming life just because of how catchy the tunes are) and the allure of the mix and match powerups were just too strong. Bomb and cutter for life.

That said, thinking about what I said before regarding Kirby music and moods, how in the hell does a game that have things like Quiet Forest or Rock Star also possess Zero Two as a final boss theme? That song is just so thematically whoa versus the rest of the game.

If they get around to putting N64 on the Wii U VC, I'll pick up Kirby 64 for sure. I'm sure nostalgia helps, but the mixing of powerups sounds really interesting. I'll definitely try bomb and cutter.

It's worth playing for me at this point just because I've played every other entry. I don't know how I missed it when it first came out on N64. The Kirby series always meant a lot to me too since the first game on Gameboy helped me during some hard times as a kid.

I have a Wavebird that was bundled with Mario Party 4 at K-Mart that still works perfectly fine, hell I used it for Smash today.
I've had a few-not many, but a few-controllers be ruined due to a childhood friend's dog, but other than that most my controllers for the Gamecube are perfectly intact.

Personally, I find it really generic. I loved every variation of Melee and Brawl's themes, so the music so far has been the biggest disappointment.
I kind of felt that way at first, but it's really grown on me. After Brawl's went for an "epic" feel, I like that this one is much more playful.

What's the game footage where Nabbit is running around in Raganarok's gif? D:
Mario Golf: World Tour. It happens whenever he gets an eagle.

EDIT:Beaten!

I wish I made the jump to Wavebird, it was such a great controller.

Ooh, we're sharing Kirby music now?

Rainbow Resort (Nightmare in Dream Land version. Used to listen to this all the time as a kid).
The Beginner's Show (Air Ride version.)
Great Cave Offensive Crystal Field/Mystery Paradise
Cloudy Park
Flower Fields
Sky Waltz (Return to Dream Land)

I wrote a blog post on that game the other week and it reminded on just how amazing that game's OST is. I agree: the slow speed and weird dynamic camera angles take a little time to get used to, but I love how the game prods at you with experimentation.

Plus, it's the only game in the world where you can challenge a killer whale to an underwater lightsaber duel. How cool is that?
