Aren't there just the two versions of Wii Fit Trainers though? So they could be the Wii Fit trainers? *hasn't played Wii Fit*

In Wii Fit you just pick one or the other to be your trainer. They both act and say the exact same things and the only time you see them together is when you decide which one you want to be your trainer.

It's a stretch to say Wii Fit has characters, but the two of them have identical characterization. To single one out as the Wii Fit Trainer would be a bit weird, since Wii Fit doesn't even do that.

Hmm, that BitF comic reminded me we don't have any Luigi's Mansion enemies/stage revealed so far. I could easily see King Boo being a boss on a Luigi's Mansion stage. And Luigi's Mansion 2 was revealed at E3 2010 or 2011, don't remember which, but that means Sakurai could have it in Smash 4.

I'm not sure if they should be enemies, but I'd love to see the Friendly Ghost appear as a stage element or trophy. To me, they're one of the cuter NPCs in Mother 3.

Yahoo!!! Man as far as I'm concerned Little Mac has two true alternates! Though one is a super recolor and everything else looks to be just pallet swaps, they are all elaborate enough warrant use. I'm a snob and hate using colors that don't really come from their source material exactly as it's presented in the source game.

I would never use the white DK pallet swap until the Super Kong was revealed in Returns.

I will say though, I do like Link's skyward sword pattern and can see myself using it.

I just can't wait to see some real alternates on the veterans!!!! Been wanting this since Melee!!!

You are just playing a semantics game. In the end it is still two different people using the same moveset. A different person alt costume. Between the Wii Fit Trainer/Villager situation along with confirmed alt costumes, the precedent is there. It isn't some great leap of logic or insane idea to suggest that there would be a Lucina alt for Marth.

It's not semantics, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer are gender-neutral characters with various degrees of customization. All the variations shown ARE the same character, they just singled out a particular variation for the sake of advertising and Amiibo creation. I don't have a real fight in the Fire Emblem fight but a Luciana alt of Marth is going to appease fans as much as the X alt of Zero did in UMvC3 (that is to say not very much or even make some people actively angry).

If it's a complete alt, with different voice track and such, that really isn't comparable. In Awakening itself, Lucina and Marth share battle animations when they're in their main classes, because Lucina's Lord class animations are mostly based on Marth's old 2d animations anyway. The X alt of Zero kept Zero's voice and quotes, breaking any illusion that it's actually X, and X and Zero themselves were never just model swaps before.

On the argument that a costume can't be an "alternate costume" due to the fact it's just a texture swap, let's look at Link's so-called "half-assed" costume.

So, here's Link in his regular tunic (and E3 2013 face, eugh). Pretty spiffy, yes.

Now here's Link's Skyward Sword tunic.

If you noticed, Link's Skyward Sword costume is slightly different from his normal model, if you look around the belt area. Also, the blue markings indicate the model's texturing would have to be slightly modified just to put them in specific coordinates on the tunic.

So yes, the design is half-assed because it's barely any different from his regular tunic, along with the fact Sakurai gives other characters nearly different models (Villager, Little Mac). But technically speaking, it is a very slightly-modified model from regular Link.
