Pic of the day. Pac-Maze is a stage exclusive to the 3DS version, created in the Pac-Man motif. If you eat 100 Pac-Dots, Power Pellets will appear in your color.

Oh it was a joke. Withdrawn :p

If you eat a Power Pellet, the monsters will become vulnerable and you can defeat them just by touching them. An important point is that the monsters will become vulnerable only on your screen, which means that they can still damage your opponents!! This is one of the unique game features only possible in the 3DS version.

Why would he just pander to one country? He did nothing for St. George's Day for UK or Shōwa Day for Japan, so why Independence Day for the US?
Because freedom. That's why.

Along with the 3D Land stage (3D world? The one where you collect 100 coins and turn gold,) it's interesting that now Smash has stages whose gimmicks are more like little minigames than hazards the game just throws at you.

That's really cool! I wonder what other stages have features like this.

Seems like we're getting a few of these style stages on the 3ds, sweet

Of course Sakurai had to acknowledge The Hungry Trio.

We've had that before with Wario Ware, but I like how the 3DS version has stages like this too.

Sounds like a cool idea, but in practice it seems a bit useless. Like do the ghosts run towards other players so you can gang up on them or do they still just move in a random pattern, not necessarily getting in other players' way?

Hello everyone. Long-time lurker, first-time poster, etc.

I want to talk about Ike and what he represents by returning and what we might attempt to infer from his inclusion. Because, regardless of the semantics, Ike's return did not seem quantifiably likely. There is nothing in Ike's character that a version of Chrom could not inherit and everybody knew/knows that an Awakening rep was unavoidable. While it appears inevitable now, it seemed strange that Sakurai would feel three blue-haired swordsmen was the best way to represent a series heavily populated by interesting characters of both sexes and so many combat classes.

But when making the roster and determining which characters could be expendable, Sakurai decided Ike was not one of them. One of the most "replaceable" characters, and arguably THE most, was not only never on the chopping block but received a complete model update. We know that Smash 4's development began by porting Brawl over, which means all veterans have dramatically less development time than new characters and in some form every Brawl veteran exists in the alpha state of the game. But while crucial characters like Fox remain unchanged, which there is no reason Ike could not also have been, Ike was the one who got the make-over. The oh-so-expendable lord was deemed worthy of extra development time and now we have Radiant Dawn Ike in Smash 4.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Honestly, I think it means no cuts beyond Squirtle, Ivysaur, and possibly Snake.

We know that Sakurai's logic is very personal and arbitrary and nobody knows exactly what makes him decide the things he does. But if so much care and effort was put into Ike then I think we conclude Sakurai doesn't consider any of Brawl's characters expendable. Any arguments about relevance and recency or even the ease with which characters could be replaced with new ones are outside Sakurai's personal logic entirely. This means that, barring the limitations of development time, the only characters who would not return are characters that Sakurai feels don't meet his particular vision for the game.

Squirtle and Ivysaur face this complication because the mechanic they were designed around was removed. Snake could meet this criteria because he was a guest character chosen to specifically contrast Brawl's roster.

But I think it is silly to think that a director and a team that would dedicate the resources to bring Ike back to the battle wouldn't set out a seat for every other Brawl veteran as well. This is ultimately question that we can't know the answer to until the game is released, but even in spite of Lucas's shaky state and people nervous Ganondorf might turn into Demise I think it is LESS likely we'll see any other cuts. 47 characters be damned, you know?

Somebody should read all the captions and find out which stages are actually confirmed to be exclusive. This one is (for 3DS) but if Sakurai didn't say that, it could be on WiiU too. Maybe we can predict which ones of the already announced stages could potentially appear in the other version as well, even though at this point I don't expect many will.

I'm guessing the stages with a version on each version will be Final Destination, Battlefield, Boxing Ring, Pokemon Stadium, and maybe some really, really liked past stages.

Is it confirmed? Like, in this instance Sakurai specifically said that the stage is exclusive. Maybe in others didn't.
Or maybe I'm bored, I don't know.
Sakurai confirmed the 3DS and Wii U have different stages, if they didn't whats the point in making exclusive content for the 3DS version?

We'll probably see cross-over when there's no good alternative, like for Little Mac's there's not much else besides Boxing Ring.

Actually haven't we seen the Wii Fit Stage for the 3DS too?

Not every stage is exclusive, like the Boxing Ring.
That's what I'm saying, maybe if Sakurai didn't specifically say that a stage is an exclusive like today, there's a possibility it's going to be another Boxing Ring situation. That's all.

That's actually a really cool idea which I can't really think of how they'd make 'work' on a console version, since everybody's always going to be staring at the same screen. Guess they could try to use the pad but even then that seems more situational than it would on the 3DS?

Pretty sure inky, blinky, pinky and Clyde have always all had their own ai patterns

I just want a damn Bowser's Castle stage already. It's the single stage that just feels so missing every time. I get that most the stages are early areas, but it's in just about every Mario game, hell it's even in the spin-offs and Kart games. Why is it always missing?

Agreed, I've been wondering why they've never done it. At least in Mushroom Kingdom U, there's a castle portion.

I'm guessing the Wii U will just get its own unique mode. I'm guessing some sort of mode where someone controls a boss with the Gamepad, while the other four players fight it.
