I just find it odd how he appeared at the end of Palutena's trailer. Maybe it'll just be a case where Pit's sixth costume changes his name, voice and effects (so he plays the same but wields different weapons, visually).
I wish they'd do this with all alts. Just have the announcer say "Dark Link" and, bam, you technically have a character.

Dark Pit is interesting.

On the one hand, his design is nearly identical to Pit, save his color. In a fighting game where all of the characters have alternate colors, this might mean he looks too similar to be a separate character.

But putting that aside for a moment...

Dark Pit would be an excellent way for Sakurai to make a move-set incorporating some of the many, many, many other weapons that were available in Uprising. So far, SSB is representing only a fraction of them, between some of Pit's moves and some of the items.

Such a concept could extend to other characters, too. Imagine if they made Dr. Mario an alternate for Mario. Plays the same, but his name changes, his appearance changes, and the look of his moves change (I.E. Mega Vitamins instead of Fireballs).

If those end up eventuating, I wonder why Toon Link wouldn't be relegated to a similar position? The character would remain as is, but having him selectable as a Link alt would work well, especially since Sakurai is determined not to change anything about him.

Or Dr. Mario. Or Daisy. Or Blood Falcon. Or Ninten. Or Fierce Deity. Or Hilda. Or any number of other characters.

Just make them available as alternate colors... Change their names... Change their voices... Tweak the appearance of their effects... And have them play the same.

Bam. Lots of "new characters."

Toon Link has an entirely different set of hit-boxes and numerous tweaked properties that affect how he actually plays, though.

I think there may be something to that effect in the works, what with the level of customization now extending to the characters' movesets, something unprecedented in the series. Albeit anything can happen, though, it'd reeeeaaally reek of bias if Sakurai added a third KI character. I'm not one to measure every single inclusion by a deserving barometer, but Kid Icarus having three characters?

Honestly, I could see Kid Icarus getting three.

Kirby, Meta Knight and King Dedede are all Sakurai's characters, as well. They all coexisted in the same game without the world imploding.

This whole "humility" angle reeks of "I'm an expert in Japanese culture, and..."

And all of those could be retained - but having him selectable in the same manner as Male WFT or Female Villager would feel a lot more organic in a way. Especially if a Dr. Mario with different pill properties is an alt after all.

I can see them introducing DLC in the same manner. Costume and a set of special attacks. It wold justify itself.

I made some posts on it before:

Here's single player (classic/adventure mode!):

You bet like in kid icarus uprising:

Which changes the difficulty:

You can choose a path, presumably based on difficulty:

You path determines your objective and opponent:

And the reward is randomized, also probably based on difficulty:

Possible bonus rounds:

Is there a screenshot of the part of the trailer with all the trophies?

Exactly. Also, I never thought of Hilda, but that would be badass!

How about they keep Toon Link as a separate character, and allow you to access Young Link from Melee as a Toon Link alt?

Theres nothing wrong with kid icarus having three representatives. Most of the franchises have atleast 2 minimum barring some exceptions.

I don't quite understand what you mean by that last part, but hey, not trying to fight here. Just saying, yes, Kirby has three characters, but look at how long it took for that to happen, and compare Kirby's relevance to Nintendo as opposed to Kid Icarus'.

You could make an entire Smash Bros. roster using only characters from Kid Icarus Uprising.

It'd probably be more interesting and play better, to boot.

Kid Icarus Uprising had the most interesting Nintendo characters in a damn long time. It deserves three reps.
Plus, at this point, I think it's less "who deserves to be in?" and more "who's available that could have an interesting moveset?", which is why characters like Rosalina & Luma are getting in.

That last comment wasn't meant for you in particular. I was just addressing the common argument that says, "Sakurai is too humble to include [X] amount of his own characters." In reality, there's no evidence to suggest that.

Between Melee and Brawl, we went from just Kirby, to Kirby and Meta Knight and King Dedede. It's quite possible we'll see someone beyond Pit and Palutena -- perhaps Medusa or Hades, who could act as the "King Dedede" to Pit and Palutena's "Kirby" and "Meta Knight."

Look, my good Neiteio, I've got nothing against Uprising. If they announced a HD remake, or indeed, a fighting game out of it, I'd buy it on the spot. I'm merely saying that I don't think the series is at a point where having two newcomers after one revival game feels justified, that's just my opinion.

That comment wasn't directed at you. It was just me musing at how many great characters are in Uprising.

Regarding what point the series is at, I think it's irrelevant. This is Sakurai's game, and Uprising was a huge 3DS release. I could easily see them adding a third KIU character.

But due to the Gematsu leak, I'm only expecting Chrom, Shulk and Chorus Men at this point.

Air down remains 33% from Brawl but can now potentially combo into Up air.

He traded in a headbutt for a goddamn Flash Kick.

3 games and he finally looks like he's going to be great.

I might start crying.
As a 64 Yoshi main, I take offense to the idea that he isn't great in that game.

When I played him at Best Buy, though. I knew he had returned to greatness.

I wish it worked that way, my man Wonder Red and the rest of his team wouldn't be just trophies :P Yeah, it does appear that Sakurai's now thinking more in terms of movesets' potential. In all honesty I don't think Rosalina particularly felt worthy of a Smash inclusion so soon, going off by her character alone. I'm however forced to accept she being in by virtue of the innovation she brings to the battlefield.

Sorry 'bout that then; on both of the comments I thought for me and weren't.

Well, yeah, obviously when it comes down to it this is Sakurai's show, and his word is law. I can only speak from where I stand. Now, if we're going by the Gematsu leaks, and the DLC turns out to be true, in -that- case, I can totally see a Kid Icarus Uprising character being among the first confirmed for it.

...Althought, the stinger with Palutena's trailer, and the fact that there were Pittoo figurines (Amiibos?) in the Smash trailer...

After starting Megaman 2, I have a newfound hatred of Megaman's pitiful jump. It's so ridiculously short and doesn't have any of the weight of Mario's or Samus's. Heatman's stage is especially clunky with it.

I will enjoy bludgeoning him to death in Smash.

after the E3 demo impressions, how do you guys feel about the 3DS version of the game?

I heard a few negatives from NWR's podcasts saying it was pointless

my eyes are bad so 3DS is not really something I spend time playing much

but for those who have tried the demo was it a waste of dev time?

Rosalina was a major character in perhaps Nintendo's most acclaimed game of the last generation, and she's playable in the latest mainline Mario game. She's also a popular Mario Kart character. Tens of millions of people are familiar with her.

None of the newcomers so far strike me as roster padding, but a third Kid Icarus character definitely would.

huh? Did I miss something?

I don't think any of the new characters are padding at all, but many of them seem like they were more picked based on having unique ways of fighting as opposed to being picked based on how much they deserved to be in.

You can say this for pretty much every franchise that's represented in Smash.
But it's especially true of Kid Icarus Uprising. Pit, Dark Pit, Palutena, Magnus, Gaol, Medusa, Thanatos, Pandora, Pyrrhon, Arlon, Cragalanche, Phosphora, Dyntos, Hades -- each of them have the right silhouettes and raw potential.

Fire Emblem is the other series that could carry a Smash Bros. installment all on its own. Both series could do really well with spinoff fighting games.

Sorry 'bout that then; on both of the comments I thought for me and weren't.

Even if the comments were meant for you, I never intend any hostility. But like I said, I was just talking to myself. Sorry for the confusion. :-)

Now what's this about a Dark Pit Amiibo?

I feel it'll be fine. People are just not used to the different controls and so they, with only a small time to get to grips with it, try playing as if it was Melee and realise it doesn't play like that.

I'm still getting it.

I haven't played it, but from where I'm sitting, I kind of wish they'd just included all of the 3DS content in the WiiU version.

It'd certainly be better for the WiiU if it were the only one.
