Yeah, a lot of characters have good low percentage combos that can utilize up-tilts, but after 30-40% there isn't really much there. But in all the matches I played I never played Kirby so it's possible he's a lot better than the rest. I actually would be totally fine with the game in it's current state if all the characters felt as fluid and responsive as villager, link and Zero Suit, but unfortunately that's not the case.

Too many characters have too much lag. I thought Mega Man felt disgustingly awkward to use. Why isn't neutral b his blaster? Why can't I hold neutral B to charge his blaster?

Do we know this as fact?

You'll get use to Mega Man, tried him several times and felt he was awkward at first, but later found some decent combos with him. Since a lot of his moves rely on projectiles he is best on stages with more open space.

Square getting a rep? These are the choices I would like to happen:

- Geno (Super Mario RPG) - Well he makes the most sense given that he's the result of a Nintendo-Square partnership.
- Black Mage (Final Fantasy) - Pretty iconic, plus the fact that he's unique. Although Vivi is pretty much the best design, I don't know if they'll look at it given that Vivi never was a character on a Final Fantasy game with Nintendo.
- Kefka (FF6) - He's arguably the most well-loved villain in Final Fantasy history. The fact that he was in one of the greatest RPGs in SNES history and with lack of villains in Smash, he pretty much makes a good case for himself. The problem is, a villain character needs a hero character to be in if we follow roster inclusions, so yeah he's out if he is only on his own.
- Choco/Mog - If we're talking about mascots, then these guys are pretty much Square's iconic mascots. A moogle riding a chocobo is a good fighting combo. Mog is the most well-known moogle, the chocobo can either be Boco or Choco
or Bobby Corwen
.
- Chrono (Chrno Trigger) - he's the hero of one of the best RPGs in SNES history, so he makes a case for himself. But we'll have too many sword-wielders in this game so...

Neku would be cool, although if he had another game since TWEWY that'd help him...

Sakurai already borrowed the difficulty scale and Tin Pin Slammer from it.

I haven't posted in a Smash thread for a while (general business combined with E3), but holy crap I'm excited. I think the game looks great in the videos I've seen, but I'm still catching up on all the news.

Does anyone have a list of any items/assist trophies that were confirmed over the last week? I saw the Magnus video, but is there anything else?

I'm actually interested in the Amiibos as a side attraction in this game. My understanding is you "train" your Amiibo by letting it battle. They can fight with you or against you, against your friend, CPUs, other Amiibos. They level up fastest when battling against other Amiibos. And it looks like you can equip them with different skills, items, etc., modifying their moves and attributes. They apparently "learn" from their opponents, too, altering their behavior over time.

I'm mainly interested in Amiibo as Nintendo décor, but I am intrigued by this Pokémon-esque simulator aspect they have in-game. I think it'd be kind of cool to train Wii Fit Trainer, for example, and see how she fares against friends' Amiibos, or even other Amiibos I've raised myself.

Is anyone else interested in them?

People will start getting more interested once they confirm a feature similar to Pokemon-Amie.

amiibos are actually the single most exciting thing about SSB4 for me. I remember years ago, when Brawl was first coming out, how badly I wanted to buy some of those trophies... that alone would have blown my mind and made my day. But having "pet" fighters to go with it? That's a whole other feature just as amazing.

The application I think is most interesting is doing 2 vs. 2 team matches, you + your amiibo vs. your friend + their amiibo. An AI partner that can grow and learn is such a cool idea.

I really don't get this "villain quota" thing the Smash community is tripping off of.

For me personally, there really isn't a quota per se so much as it'd be cool to get more iconic villains in because who doesn't want to play the bad guys every now and again? More so if they're well realized or bring a play style we haven't seen yet.

I'm definitely interested in how they work. Particularly in the idea of raising really strong ones that are much tougher tests of skill/adaptability to defeat than any ol' regular CPU. Of course, using them as a partner in 2 v 2 also sounds really fun.

I really like the idea of that format: You and your Amiibo vs. your friend and their Amiibo. It could make for exciting scenarios, especially if it turns out one of you has been training the heck out of your Amiibo and it's like bringing a nuke to a gunfight.

So, I was reading the Yoshi impressions and it seems he's quite good. Finally!

Hope he doesn't get changed much if he's actually good now...

Can you link me to the impressions? I'm actually interested in Yoshi myself now that they've made him look so CUTE. :-3

Plus, Wooly World hype has rekindled my love of the dino

I concur. It's always fun to include someone who wasn't playable in their original game. I remember how exciting it was to have Bowser playable in Melee. Sure, he's playable in some of the Mario Spin-Offs, but actually fighting with a fully realized version of him? Beyond epic.
Granted, it's taken 3 games for him to be any good :P

Can someone do me a huge favor and link/tell me about the gamatsu rumor?

There were two.

The first, before E3 2013, claimed six characters would be revealed:

Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Mii, Pac-Man

The most recent one had a few more characters:

Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Men (Rhythm Heaven), a Pokemon from X/Y

The one-million-space-bucks question: Is the Gematsu leak the extent of the remaining newcomers?

Who knows? They missed Rosalina entirely.

Before Uprising came out and she was revealed to be a minor villain, I was really hoping Medusa would get in simply because she's the only close-to-viable female villain in the Nintendo-verse.

Here: http://smashboards.com/threads/just-played-yoshi-on-the-3ds.357982/

And here: http://smashboards.com/threads/yoshi-evolution-moves-and-all-demo-updates.352038/ .

Yoshi has new up smashes and dash attacks. People noted that he can jump out of his shield (!), that shield movement is quicker, that egg throwing is easier to control and lets you control Yoshi even more than Brawl, that egg rolling is faster and you can jump while in the egg, also you're not stupidly vulnerable if you drop off the stage while egg rolling. Finally, one person said that you can actually hit people after turning them into eggs, allowing for some combos.

She's a villain for the first third of Uprising and the entirety of the original NES game, and we don't know what role she'll have in future games. I'd expect her to be the third representative for Kid Icarus, though probably not in this game.

...Also, (K)achi would also qualify as a viable female villain, given that she's the main antagonist of the first S&P and one of the protagonists of the second.

I feel pretty strongly that we already know the full roster, more or less, at 47 characters.
Agreed. Anyone who thinks otherwise, thinks a character like Mewtwo is returning outside of maybe DLC, is going to be severely dissapointed.

47 is our final roster. I was dissapointed, but I'm mosly fine now, except for Chrom. My Female FE Rep T_T

Tho I could see them cutting Jigglypuff for Mewtwo. I don't think they will, but considering Ness was considered to be cut before Lucas was cut means that the "Original Roster" doesn't mean that they are a shoo-in.

I can't believe people still believe that theres more than 47 characters. Its amusing. Watever floats your boat I guess.

Actually, there were THREE Gematsu leaks. The third one appeared before the E3 Digital Event, and included Mii Fighters by name.

As for why the second leak referred to Greninja as "Pokémon from X/Y," we now know this is likely because Sakurai chose Greninja before he even had a name, back when he was going off early reference drawings.

Maximilian's Smash E3 impressions

Of note is apparently Namco's supposed habit of frame buffering for inputs/animations

I like Max.

Good impressions.

I can't say I noticed some of his complaints. My biggest complaint would be how weird movement in the air felt at times.

I wonder how this will affect characters like Wario and Jigglypuff. I'm hopeful that some stuff wasn't finished and there will be changes upon release.

Where are you guys getting 47 characters from? Who's left if that's the case?

Well, it's putting the pieces together.

1) We expect that Squirtle and Ivysaur are cut, as they'd have been announced alongside Charizard.
2) We expect Snake is cut, as Pac-Man is being pushed heavily as the last 3rd Party and we'd probably have word by now.
3) The third Gematsu leak suggests that Lucas is unlikely to return.
4) There's no real reason to assume more than a handful of cuts.
5) The Gematsu leaks in general claim that Chrom, Shulk, and Chorus Kids are all newcomers.

You put that together and you have 47 characters, assuming all other Brawl characters return. Now, you combine that with the following mockup:

And we see that, maintaining the shape of the demo character select and downsizing them slightly (which is exactly what happened with the final Brawl character select), and we have a neat rectangle with 48 boxes. We know there'll be a Random box, so, bam, 47 characters.

47 is pretty much the "realistic minimum" of characters, and I think it's what we should all be expecting. Assuming the worst, be surprised by anything extra,
pray for DLC
