Lucas I'll give you (he's probably gone too), but Wolf is a major recurring character in a series that's still turning out games on Nintendo platforms, there's no reason for him to go. Saying Snake is a bigger Nintendo allstar than ROB is downright ridiculous. Might as well add Wario and Game and Watch to that list while you're at it.

I didn't say "bigger Nintendo allstar," I said "more unique or more beloved." Snake has more presence on Nintendo consoles these days than ROB. But that's not the issue. My point was that I don't see any solid evidence that Snake is cut. You say that Snake will be gone with great confidence, but what exactly is your evidence? All I see is speculation.

And let me reiterate that I, too, suspect Snake is cut, but that's all it is - a suspicion.

Pic of the day. Pac-Man's standard special move, Bonus Fruit. As you charge this move, the bonuses will change, and all of them have different characteristics and movement patterns when thrown. The bonuses cycle in the same order as in the original game, and the charge-up period doubles once you cycle beyond the orange.

So you have to get it wight on the first run-through or you're toast, eh? That's an interesting mechanic for a B move.

Now we know why Iwata was always holding up fruit in the Nintendo Direct's.

It was a hint towards Pac-Man in Smash!

So you're saying, objectively, it's absolutely impossible Sakurai would save a big-name reveal for a Direct later this summer? You're saying its absolutely impossible he might be saved for closer to launch?

Did he say that? Seems like he expressed his opinion on it. Weird for you to suddenly take the stance that you need to add "in my opinion" to every post.

What makes you think this? Mewtwo was cut and never came back, and it's very likely Squirtle and Ivysaur are gone as well. Even if they weren't, Pokemon Trainer, arguably one of the most unique characters in the game, was removed. Ganondorf was added because he's an important character, obviously not because his moveset was unique. Falco stayed around after Melee, Toon Link stayed around after Brawl.
To be fair we know that Mewtwo came closer than any other incomplete character to being finished and that there's probably a very good reason for the cut that involves a certain blue hedgehog.

Cool. I hope Pooka's in there somewhere.

This is a beautiful screen shot BTW.

In my opinion if Snake were in the game, he would have in my opinion been announced by now in my opinion. In my opinion I'm willing to make an avatar bet over it in my opinion.

Is that better? Sheesh...

I apologize if I came off hostile, for that was not my intent. I'm pointing out he might want to reconsider what he's saying since there are still abundant opportunities for more characters to be shown.

To the Snake naysayers...just remember, you thought Toon Link would be cut...and then he was confirmed. You thought Lucario was gone for good, yet he showed up and proved you wrong. You thought Ike wouldn't be back, but here he is. Okay, maybe you didn't think all of this personally, but many, many people did, and chances are, unless you've always thought there would be no cuts, you probably thought at least one of those characters wasn't going to be returning before they were confirmed.

I'm just saying, don't count Snake (or anyone else, for that matter...except maybe Squirtle and Ivysaur) out just yet.

:D

I love this man.

The logic of Snake detractors astounds me... where is the basis of this statement? What has transpired up to this point that would lead you to believe that Snake would have been revealed by now if he was in the game? Provided he's in the game, the time that he's revealed will be whenever Sakurai chooses to reveal him. Not only were no veterans revealed at E3, but all 3rd party characters' reveals up to this point have been spaced out. Mega Man June '13, Sonic October '13, Pac-Man June '14. Where does Snake fit in there?

I know tons of people who loved playing as them in Brawl and went berserk with joy when they were first revealed. I know people like to imagine that there are a limited number of "spots" for pokemons, but Sakurai can do whatever he wants, and I think he will to keep such unique characters. It's really just down to Sakurai, I'm sure the Pokemon company would be more than willing to let him use those characters in his game again. Sure, they might be cut, but they also might not be cut. You really can't say either way what will happen.
Am I being trolled right now?

That's cool.

Hasn't happened yet!

Sorry for the early wish!

So if you guys could have any three characters and three assists in the new Smash, what would they be? I figure this could be fun.

1. Isaac
2. Professor Layton
3. Ray MK 2

1. Tetris
2. Chibi-Robo
3. Excite Trucks

1. The Masked Man (Mother 3)
2. King K. Rool
3. Banjo-Kazooie

1. Bowser Jr./Shadow Mario
2. Kumatora
3. Pak E. Derm (Yoshi's Story)

I do not see Squirtle returning now that we got Greninja and Charizard as a stand alone character. With squirtle gone I don't see Ivysaur returning either but who knows.
I would really like to see Wolf return. I liked him alot more than Falco and Fox, he felt like a totally different character IMO. Snake could be in or he could be not, it's really hard to tell at this point. I do however think he was a pretty fun and unique character so having him in would definetly be something positive.

Cherry: 100 points.
Strawberry: 300 points
Orange: 500 points
Apple: 700 points
Melon: 1000 points
Galxian Boss: 2000 points
Bell: 3000 points
Key: 5000 points

hmm?

Today we get fruit.

Awesome, Pacman is shaping up to be a very interesting character. The emphasis on field control through varied projectiles is right up my alley.

Does anyone know which game Sakurai is referring to when he mentions "original game?"

I just think Konami would have wanted him at one E3 at least.

1. The Amazon, who chomps peoples' heads like he did in Pro Wrestling
2. Simon Belmont, with his old-school whip and fur trunks
3. Funky Kong, ready to yell "HEYYY!" and party like he did in Mario Kart Wii

1. Ryu and Ken, who deliver a double-team Shoryuken that ends with a brofist
2. An ExciteBots vehicle that rams players while racing to assemble a Super Sandwich
3. Angry Shigeru Miyamoto, who runs around upending tea tables, dealing splash damage

His projectiles are from various Namco games irc

I was showing how the same exact arguments can be applied to Squirtle and Ivysaur that people have been using for Snake? Why do you think they're gone? Just because they haven't been revealed yet? You seriously think that's a good reason?

And Sonic doesn't because reasons?
Sonic was at E3, he was selectable at the invitational.

I just think Konami would have wanted him at one E3 at least.
I can understand that viewpoint... E3 is a huge event and all. But maybe Konami would think it equally notable for Snake to be one of, if not the last character shown before launch. Imagine him popping up in an August Direct or in a launch trailer in early September. "Kept you waiting, huh?" The noise it'd create would be immense. And like others have noted, it follows a certain pattern of third-party newcomers at E3 and third-party vets in the fall.

Sonic was at this years E3, he was at the invitational, and I assume the Best Buy demo (?).

I don't think Konami would agree to skip all that publicity.

That could definitely happen. I don't think it will, but it could.

I'm just accepting the fact that Snake is gone sooner rather than later. It hurts me to see him go, I'm a huge Metal Gear fan.

E3 '13 and '14 were Mega Man and Pac-Man's times to shine and no third party characters have ever been revealed on the same day. Sonic was revealed months after Mega Man was, and Pac-Man was revealed months after Sonic was. We've still got 4 months to go.

The difference between Ivysaur/Squirlte and Snake is that we have every reason to believe that all three will be back, Sakurai doesn't like cuts after all, but we also have every reason to believe that neither Squirtle nor Ivysaur will be back because of something that came DIRECTLY from Sakurai himself. There is literally NO reason to assume that Snake will be gone. Snake's chances are just as good as Zero Suit Samus, Toon Link, Wolf, Ike, Mewtwo, Sonic, etc.

I just think Konami would have wanted him at one E3 at least.

Well both of the new 3rd party characters were shown at each E3. Since Sonic was already shown in a direct, I don't think it's too crazy to think Sakurai's just spacing them out, and revealing the veteran 3rd parties in directs and giving E3 to the new hype boys. There are still directs left before the Japan release.

Also, wasn't even Sonic kind of just randomly revealed even as a newcomer? I feel like I remember something leading up to it, but I know it wasn't at E3. It was well after through a Dojo post. He was added in late I know, but that was one of the largest reveals in Smash history. Through a dojo post.

To be fair, Sonic probably wasn't even planned yet when Snake was revealed, and there's good reason to believe Pacman (and Mii and Mac) were originally planned for the same E3 as Megaman.

I'm guarded emotionally myself. I definitely wouldn't bet on either outcome. Way I see it, everyone loses if he's cut, because the roster is poorer for it...

He was revealed during at an earnings report. Iwata himself announced it.

I distinctly remember the freak out on GAF when someone translated the Japanese tweets to "Sonikku in Sumabura."

Also, for the people saying Konami would want him playable and publicized, wasn't Snake one of the characters in Brawl that weren't playable until the game's release? I don't remember him being in any demo builds, even though he was announced very early. Even Sonic was playable in a few of those builds.

Sonic was revealed the day (week?) Brawl was playable at E For All.

It was also the same day Brawl was delayed to 2008.

At first I was confuzzled by the pic of the day as I thought we'd already been told this, (I remember the actual objects cycled being listed along with a little on what each does) but I guess I must've read it elsewhere :o

Based off that, I'm expecting that either this or next week we'll end up getting told details about the pacman classic stage for 3DS and the pacland stage for Wii-U (which looks weird as heck :o )
