Avatar bets are okay. I suppose we could escalate it and 'Do the Dew' bet.

Edit: Do the Dew bets consists of drinking an entire 2 litter of Mountain Dew in one sitting and smashing an entire bowl of Doritos.

I can't even do that bet since I quit with junk foods and sodas for couple of years or more.

Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh shut down!

Anyway, that'd be pretty lame if true. So random would just be completely shut off, and the only way to select Miis is to turn off random? That seems needlessly limiting.
While I'm looking forward to custom movesets in relation to Mii's, everything else about how they've implemented custom movesets so far is seeming simultaneously limited and way too cumbersome.

Probably wasn't nearly as big a resource hog as SSE was during Brawl's development so there's that at least.

EDIT: I'm still 50/50 on Snake returning, though I don't feel like making a bet on it. I could see him being removed since he doesn't fit SSB4's cleaner more 'game-y' aesthetic or Konmai simply didn't push for him, but I can also easily see Kojima bullshitting like he normally does and they felt like showing him late just for the hell of it. I also feel Snake being revealed in the next Direct wouldn't be that anti-climatic given how Sonic was similarly shown off (albeit around the time of Lost World's release, though I'm expecting a Snake Eater-themed stage for Snake if he returns). Not having any recent MGS games on Nintendo systems means shit considering there was an even bigger gap when he was in Brawl.

Just to be clear, the bets I'm doing are both for one month.

Well actually, I guess I can't bet both of you, so which one is it gonna be?

First post on SmashGAF, this time i will behave :)

Now on topic: I think Snake will be cut out since pacman will be taking his place.

I don't ever believe in this "Character X replaces character Y" if Snake's out, it's because he doesn't fit the Smash Bros style or Konami doesn't approve his usage

I kind of wonder if Snake's (potential) exclusion would have more to do with Bamco than Konami.

But I don't know anything about their politics.

Honestly the more I think about it the more having mii fighters only available when custom is on makes sense and having random flip with mii fighters when custom is on. Can you imagine a scenario where you jump into a with anyone match and all of the sudden the mii fighter icon is just grayed out? Also Sakurai seems very clear on not giving the mii's a default move set or look so they really wouldn't work at all with customization off.

We already know Snake is cut.

He is as cut as Ike is...less some bulk :p

Nah, just the opposite, welcome SSB4 Snake

On Topic: Snake not returning would most likely be due to nothing MGS being released on Nintendo platforms soon (ever?).

It's not any different from Brawl, though. MGS4 was being heavily promoted at the time, and Snake still appeared in Smash and came with content from that game. Snake Eater 3D was released closer to SSB4's release date(s) than Twin Snakes compared to Brawl's as well. He's (marginally) more relevant to Nintendo now than he was back in 2008.

It's always possible that's the reason, but it's weird that they're pushing that now and not then.

While I would love for Snake to be back, I just have a gut feeling he's gone. Would suck because I hate to see a completely original moveset cut without any kind of half way replacement or at least a similar characer to carry on their legacy ala Charizard carrying on the legacy of Pokemon Trainer

Oh... Yeah. I was mistaken on Twin Snake's release. Well Kojima's Kid is appeased in Brawl so no random need for Snake now :P

If that's true, that actually ups Snake's chances considerably. There's a spot for him now! Assuming there's still only one random spot.

If Snake is returning we'll get a "kept you waiting huh" trailer

I still wonder if the change of Sutherland becoming Snake is the reason he's out as Sutherland would be too expensive to license for the voice and perhaps Konami won't let Snake be in the game with a voice besides his new official one

If we get Pit saying, "My wait was better" I'll take it.

First Post.

Yes yes I know.

In particular for this game I am excited for getting the Screw Attack item and just being a whirling ball of death and cheap aerials now that Smash DI is apparently gone.

And it should stay gone! I say if you land a multi-hitting attack it should follow through to completion!

To get the thread somewhere back on track.

I wonder if Smash will be one of the last fighting games to essentially ship 'complete'. What I mean by that is a full roster, extensive stages, etc. Sure, there will probably be DLC and the like, but by and large, when we get Smash 4 for the 3DS, and Wii U, they will be complete games.

But the rest of the industry is moving to selling fighting games piecemeal, and as free to play option. The FGC heavily took to Killer Instinct's F2P offering, both Tekken and Soul Calibur has F2P versions on PS3, Rise of the Incarnates is F2P, and Mortal Kombat 10 will likely have intensive DLC offerings.

I'm not even sad at the notion that Smash might be the last of its era.

Perhaps Smash 5, or whatever the next Smash is titled will join the ranks of F2P offerings, but for now, I'm glad that I can pay $60 for a complete game. (Or in my case, $40 after the discount Target is offering on this week's Buy two get one Free game).

Trends in the rest of the industry rarely have an effect in Nintendo's software, and Sakurai doesn't strike me as the person who'd embrace F2P as a gaming design philosophy. Here's hoping it stays that way!

I personally think this is Sakurai's last Smash game, and the reason Nintendo picked Bandai-Namco to co-develop wasn't a coincidence either. They're grooming somebody to take over.

Re: Shulk getting in over Xenoblade X character

Whenever a series is represented in Smash with a playable character, the main protagonist of the franchise is playable. Shulk is essentially the Marth of the Xenoblade franchise.

Bamco is a work-for-hire developer which Nintendo has used many times and has a good relationship with. Harada has expressed this countless times that Nintendo and Bamco are in good standings behind the scenes even though their core games don't get released on Nintendo platforms.

They most likely chose Bamco because:
- they are available
- experienced and has some top developers in Bamco
- has a good relationship with Nintendo

This team is going to be disbanded as soon as Smash 4 is done completely and the developers will go back to their own projects. We don't know when it will be done completely, I doubt it will be as soon as Smash 4 releases.

I finally got around to playing some Project M. IDK if it's cause I haven't played a Smash Bros game in a while but it played like the same speed as Brawl to me. Messed around on training for a couple of hours trying out everyone, and for some reason Wolf stood out the most to me. Again idk if it cause I haven't played in a while but Wolf felt great using.

Took me 55 hours

Going off the fact that I'm going to be insane and try to complete every quest out there ( Chuggaaconroy's let's play is going to be a blessing for me, he's doing that + every single case of commentating in the game), the fact that I find pleasure just running around in giant fields with great music in the background and fighting grunts in crap in leisure time (see: Okami. I could gaze and the flower trails and run around like this for hours), the fact that on average, games can take longer for me by 33 to 200%

I'm anticipating a few hundred hours

And whatever that
Colony 6 rebuilding thing is, I'll probably try to do that too

They're better than your posts in this thread.

Shockingalberto is one of the few GAFfers who is sane and keeps a level head

They would give a 3rd party, given their track record with those, the development of SSB?

Wouldn't be the first time Nintendo poached talent after collaborating with a 3rd party studio on a game... (Square with Super Mario RPG, Capcom with several Zelda games including the Minish Cap, and Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons.)

And it doesn't necessarily have to be somebody on the Bandai-Namco side, just some young up and comer on Nintendo's side that Nintendo and Sakurai trusts to take over.

Again, this is a personal theory of mine with little basis in truth, so I'm not thinking too hard on this. =P
