There's a good chance that Isaac will be added to Project M along with the other characters who will never be playable in an actual Smash Bros game.

If they keep making Smash games, Sakurai will have to look at these characters again. Especially if they go more and more into only using a few IPs.

If a new person makes Smash, hopefully they'll be more inclined to focus on heavy and reasonable fan request rather than constantly being tempted to add "interesting" novelty characters. I think with Sakurai it will only get worse.

Outside of Wii Fit Trainer, every newcomer in Smash 4 announced so far have been fan requested.

Just because Isaac, Ridley, and other small to mid-tier characters don't get in doesn't mean he doesn't listen to fans lol.

This Smash has been pretty good with fan requests, imo. Little Mac and the Mii Fighters are the only characters that would feel horribly missing if they weren't in Smash at this point, Megaman and Pac-man are solid third party newcomers, and Villager was somewhat requested. Rosalina and Greninja are both from franchises that no longer have any horribly missing reps, but can still supply well-liked, popular characters that have unique movesets. The Wii Fit Trainer is an odd ball, but her inclusion is definitely pretty funny, represents a franchise that is fairly big for Nintendo, and supports a unique moveset. Palutena is a bit of an oddity to be in this game, but Kid Icarus Uprising was so damn good that it's biased me into thinking she deserves a spot.

Isaac and Golden Sun fans can screw off after Golden Sun DS, and make way for the glorious Ray MK II/III Custom Robo overlords.

I agree i really like the characters this time around and if the leaked roster is true i am excited to see what the others can do and im really curious as to what chrom will do i honestly like him :p (not as good as luci but still :P)

and honestly if smash isnt made by sakurai despite his weird choices or w/e i dont think i will be buying the game :T (i really respect the man and what he does :P)

With the very real possibility of dlc characters I don't want to get into "oh x/y/z should have been playable" because they still could end up playable down the line. Personally I'm hoping at least one of the dlc characters will be open to a fan vote
so Sakurai will be forced to ignore the fans when Ridley wins

I didn't expect Palutena tbh. Sakurai definitely heard the fans.

Villager was highly requested during the time of Brawl and then Sakurai killed that by explicitly stating Villager is not a fighter so Villager would not be a playable character. And now we're at Smash 4 lol.

They distributed a pamphlet showing off all of the characters, and one of the screenshots shows Pac-Man in his arcade form chomping on Kirby. I'm guessing that is part of Pac-Man's grab.

That sounds a bit shit, unless the BB demo did the same thing and I just never heard about it. Do you at least get to watch if you miss out on a ticket?

They allowed you to watch the Wii U matches on a big screen, which was nice. The game truly does look beautiful in person, and the fluidity is something that doesn't quite come across in videos. The 3DS matches were also viewable on a television screen just outside the play area.

So bummed that I didn't get to play. :/ It was cool to watch the Wii U footage though, I guess.

Yeah, but I really want to just get my hands on the game, even for a little bit. I'm taking the first train over to Makuhari Messe tomorrow morning, so wish me luck!

I think Palutena would have been in regardless of fan input. She seems like Sakurai's Lightning.

What's the etymology on her name, btw? I figured it was a botched Romanized portmanteau of "parthenon" and "paladin."

I been told it from Pallas Athena

Yes it is based off of Pallas Athena. The Greek Goddess. The game lore takes elements from many greek myths including Icarus and Daedalus as well as the classic Medusa epic. Especially evident with one the legendary items being a mirror shield.

Yeah this is why I will use GC controllers since I plan to play online a lot.

Maybe I'm thinking about it wrong, but if you're playing online wouldn't the limiting factor be network lag anyway? To the point where input lag from a wireless controller is negligible?

I've always heard wired controllers were better for online play. At least that was going around when SF4 and others were discussed.

I thought the main downside to wireless was interference, not input lag. Regardless, I plan to use the Pro controller for casual play.

Was Golden Sun ever really that good?

Golden Sun DS was outright terrible in a variety of ways (the dialouge! it never ended!), but I'm sort of suspecting if I went back and played the originals I'd find issues with them as well. I know The Lost Age had that giant ridiculous dungeon at the beginning that lasted forever.

GBA Golden Sun is best Golden Sun.

Yeah he does have a habit of contradicting himself. Hope that trend continues and we get a Kid Icarus: Uprising 2... (as he said he wouldn't make it)

<3 Lyndis

like I said, she'll play like Virgil (MvC3). lol

No please. Vergil (in UMVC3 anyway) is the jankiest sword draw character ever. There's no flow or sense of speed with his attacks and with all the hitstop on his normals, everything feels like you're bashing someone around more that nimbly lopping/swatting at them.

A better ideal (while pretty damn broken as well) would be if Lyn fought like Yuzuriha from Under Night In-Birth, Johnny from Guilty Gear, Hibiki from CvS2, Senna from Big Bang Beat, or the Sojiro sprite edit version of Hibiki frequently seen on the SaltyBet Mugen roster.

Also, that post should completely out me as a hopeless fan of iaido style fighting game characters. :lol

There's just something endlessly entertaining about a character that swats you five football fields away, regains composure, chases you down then does it again until you slam into a wall.

This whole Palutena = Lightning and Rosalina = Lightning thing is beyond stupid. People actually like the Nintendo characters.

Forced equivalences are the worst. The thing with the Rosalina one that always trips me out though is that it takes Nintendo almost 30 years to add one new character to the main character squad (re: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad tier character) and suddenly it's equivalent to EAD Tokyo going full waifu culture?

I mean seriously, what?

The Palutena one is funny to me just because of how prominent she is in the Kid Icarus series even without Uprising (the franchise's title is "Myth of Light: The Mirror of Palutena" in Japan) but people think she's in only because Sakurai's nepotism > all.

If Project M does start adding characters that have never been in Smash, then I could see Nintendo taking action.

One is fixing a game to their liking, it's a whole nother thing when they're adding content that compromises sales of future games.

Only the first makes any sense since they share the same English VA.
No, it doesn't make sense, since that isn't what "Sakurai's Lightning" means or refers to. The phrase means the developer has an unreasonable love for the character that makes him push her on all the fans despite general dislike or indifference. Palutena is popular with the vast majority of KI fans, and Rosalina is well liked among the general Nintendo fanbase. Hell, she is my wife's favorite newcomer.

You know, I figured with them doing the tightrope act (specifically staying away from stuff that either isn't referenced in Brawl or comes from games later in Nintendo's catalog) they could avoid the Ninjas, but this post reminds me that Sakurai's toes could get stepped on. There's no shortage of interviews where he mentions that his character tank is something he can't talk about even in the completion of one Smash game since it does factor into later entries in the series.

I won't lie, I hope it happens in a manner where P:M and official Smash games coexist with their own updates and whatnot, but it'd be completely ignorant of me to overlook what could happen.

Not really. It was more like a shift in his approach of thinking of which characters should be playable. He approached Villager with a different mindset for Smash 4.

I was half joking but I kinda like that sporadic nature of his attacks. The examples you listed are amazing though, Hibiki and Senna look like characters I'd want Lyn to be!

Is it bad that I'm already hoping that Smash 4 will have a Project M style mod? Watching some Project M matches right now and I just can't help but feel like Smash 4 is going to be disappointing.

I feel like Smash 4 is going to be a lot better than a lot of people are giving it credit for, individual character balance aside. I'm going to choose to play the final game for a good while before thinking that the game needs "fixing" upon release.

That said, given that there's no mod/hack scene for the Wii U at current and the Project M team has said off hand a few times that it'd be unlikely that they'd do a "Project M for Wii U" due to focusing on the current PM, I'd say the possibility is closer to not likely than anything else.

Yes, it's bad since we don't have any idea what would happens with final version of Smash 4. From top of my head, Brawl demo was completely different from the final product. Brawl Demo (2007) got a lot of approvals from the players, and see what happens with final version of Brawl for certain players.
