I have completed my interpretation of the final roster with the leaks in mind! I still think Mewtwo and Lucas will be in, despite the rumor stating that the latter was being CONSIDERED for removal. Please observe:

51 characters total with the 3 Mii Fighters included.

I didn't overlook that at all. In fact I was waiting for you to bring it up so I could offer a rebuttal.

The other Mega Man games are spinoffs, plain and simple. Just like Luigi's Mansion is a spinoff of the Mario series and Shadow the Hedgehog is a spinoff of the Sonic series, X, Legends, Battle Network and Starforce are all spin offs of the Mega Man series. They exist alongside the main series, but they aren't part of them.

Nobody but Mario has been the main protagonist in the main Mario series. Likewise, in the main Mega Man series, Mega Man is the ONLY main protagonist. Castlevania is a different story, because in the main Castlevania series there are more protagonists than Simon. Simon does not own his own series in the way that Mega Man does, he's just one of the many main protagonists. Such is unarguable.

You're being ridiculous. The Mega Man X series goes up to 8, almost as much as Classic's 10, and it has its own spin-offs in the Xtreme series and Mega Man X: Command Mission. Mega Man 1-10, X1-8, Zero 1-4, ZX and ZX Advent, Legends 1 and 2, BN1-6 and Star Force 1-3 are all mainline Mega Man games.

Have you ever heard of Castlevania: Judgement? It's a fighting game featuring 14 playable characters, but there's only one character on the box. The main character.

Go ahead and guess who that is.

That looks messier than what Sakurai would probably go for, but I still don't get why so many people are hung up on 47 (Sal's leak has never indicated what the size of the roster will be) just because it's how the icons fit on the screen, especially when there's that MK8 '48' guy people either keep forgetting or ignoring.

So many supposed leakers, so little time.

There's 13 weeks until Smash releases in Japan. Nintendo will probably announce the entire roster a month before hand like they did with Mario Kart.

So really, we're only 9 weeks away from knowing who's in and who's not. ;P

Oot Ganondorf, hmm? I approve!!

Nuhuh, Sakurai left so many characters in Brawl a secret until the JP release. Captain Falcon wasn't revealed, and neither was Toon Link, among many others

The same eye of the public likely just see Belmont as a whip slinging dude.
Ehhh

Since this argument is really stems from an argument Simon vs. Snake, let me say how Snake fits into this rather than arguing Mega Man vs. Simon. It could be argued that Solid Snake isn't always the sole main character of the main MGS series, but that's only if you want to grasp at straws. Snake (The image and the idea), whether he be Solid, Naked or whatever has always been the sole protagonist of the MGS series. A fact that Sakurai even recognized when he implemented him in Brawl. He took elements from more than one version of Snake and even named him "Snake" rather than Solid Snake or Naked Snake because when it comes down to it, every incarnation of Snake represents the same thing.

You might say that the same thing is true of the Belmont family, but that's not quite true. You can't just put Simon in Richter's clothes and call the character "Belmont." The Castlevania protagonists all have different names, they all look completely different and there's no character who goes by "Belmont"

Oh yeah, was that guy confirmed? Forgot if he said anything about Mario Kart 8 that came true.

It was all fairly vague stuff you couldn't really confirm one way or the other even after the game came out (Indrifting is kinda-sorta in, etc.) but apparently he had a solid reputation for leaking stuff with MK7/Wii? Just seemed like people chose to disregard him due to his 'this is subject to change' comments concerning the 48/4 cuts claim, but sort of overlooked Sal's leak saying the same thing in regards to Lucas getting cut not being a finalized decision.

It doesn't matter how many there are. The FACT is, none of those games other than 1-10 are mainline Mega Man games. That is not my view on it, that is a fact.

Go ahead and guess who that is.
I'm not arguing that Simon isn't the most well known Castlevania protagonist, but it's simply not HIS series. Simon has never been the main character in every mainline Castlevania game. He is not Castlevania's "Mario" he's Castlevania's Marth, and that's not enough for a third party character.

On a side-note, I like how it's the redhead, pretty boy version of Simon in Judgement rather than the Conan version.

Holy shit that is great. You got the backgrounds down too, nice work.

Light Yagami was in Death note?

ill stop, I really wanted that game to be good, its just.....okay....ish,

EDIT: DAMNIT POP O MATIC

im actually a fan of the artists works tbh i really liked the dark shading he did for death note and how his style can be changed when he worked on bakuman off topic i know :P

Judgement was such a guilty pleasure game for me. I detest that Simon design, however. Simon could easily be leather tunic'd up and modernized from his classic appearances on NES. He doesn't have to look like Conan or He-Man, both of which are shirtless, where Simon is clearly wearing a leather jerkin or vest with fur pads of some sort. If anything, he'd look like a low level DnD Character with a whip. Give him the iconic sub weapons as specials and boom, he'd be a great inclusion.

This looks incredible.

I'd really miss Snake, Squirtle and Ivysaur, though.

Hopefully they could come back as DLC if they're cut.

Third party on Wii was so weird. Castlevania was a fighting game. Soul Calibur was an action/adventure. And Resident Evil was a rail shooter/lightgun style game.

I like the art myself, but the redesigns in Judgement were.....well you know. Simon was one of the few that I liked.

Except for the fact that it's not.

He's Castlevania's Classic Mega Man, and evidently that is enough for a third party character.

The character designs in Judgement are pretty all fucked up. Grant looks like fucking Voldo for some reason.

Wait, the PotD is late. Does this mean anything?
Traditionally it means the team was working late, and an intern will throw whatever picture is lying around online as they walk out the door.

I mean, maybe not precisely, but I seem to recall the vast majority of late pictures being something known, or something very minimal. Something new is usually revealed on Friday instead.
