KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

You're not making much of a coherent argument that the X games are not "mainline" Mega Man games other than a generic: "You're wrong and I'm right, so there!". Your personal opinion isn't as much of persuasive argument that you think it is. Creating an arbitrary definition about what is or is not a "mainline" Megaman game is silly. Categories are only useful to discussion if other people generally agree with you on their use. If you find yourself in an argument with other people over definitions, than you have already lost.
It's not my personal opinion. It is a fact. I'm also not arguing, I'm making a statement. I could argue that the mainline series is the... mainline series, but it doesn't need to be argued. If someone asks me to make an argument then I will, but until then I will state fact as fact.

In any event, since when did a character have to be the sole representative of their series to be considered for Smash Bros.? Marth and Ike have only been in a minority of the games in the Fire Emblem series, for example. Since the series doesn't have a consistent world, let alone cast, it makes sense for them to choose the most iconic and or popular characters from the series to represent it.
If you look back at my posts in this thread, you'll see that I already talked about this very subject. But I'll reiterate, there's a huge difference between first and third party characters. Marth and Ike are in because Fire Emblem deserves representation as a big first party franchise. Marth and Ike are in because they've contributed most to the series and Marth gets the highest priority because he was both the OG and he's appeared in the most games. When it comes to third parties, the ones who've made it in to the Smash series so far OWN their respective series'. There are no other characters from their franchises to consider. That is not the case with Castlevania.

You can be internally in denial all you want, but don't outwardly deny that a fact is not a fact.
I really don't know what to tell you at this point other than that's not true. I'll put in a question at Ask Capcom if you really want.

No, classic Mega Man is always the main character of the classic Mega Man series, whereas Simon is only the main character of the games where he's the main character. He may be the most well known Castlevania character, but he doesn't have a series to his own, similarly to Marth or Ness. Simon is not comparable to classic Mega Man, or any of the other third parties.
(Classic) Mega Man was the original and is the face of Mega Man, and so for a Mega Man rep, he gets in over X, Zero, etc.

(Solid) Snake was the original and is the face of Meta Gear, and so for a Metal Gear rep, he gets in over Big Boss, Raiden, etc.

(Simon) Belmont was the original and is the face of Castlevania, so for a Castlevania rep, he gets in over everyone else. I know that Castlevania has like twice as many protagnosists as Metal Gear, Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man combined, but I really don't think that changes anything. Simon is still the main dude, and he also happens to be the one most relevant to Nintendo.

"Pic of the day. Here's a Poppant, an enemy that appeared in the previous game in this series. Poppants will appear in Smash Run, scampering around as they drop a variety of items."

"There are other bonus characters that appear in this game, too. Here's an Iridescent Glint Beetle from the Pikmin series. Keep hitting it!! Keep hitting it for gold!!"

It's kind of a shame, I would be really excited for the Iridescent Glint Beetle if it hadn't been revealed already at E3.

Ah, well. It's still a really cool enemy to use for Smash Run.

The double-edged blade of the E3 blowout -- a whole lotta "I'd be really excited if this weren't shown at E3"

I thought I'd kept up with every enemy shown off in Smash Run, yet apparently this one slipped by me. What a fun idea!

And yah Poppant!

I actually do not want to see anything else from Smash Run, I want it to surprise me as much as possible.

Would've been nice if each course was randomly generated or something like that. But it probably wasn't right for the idea that they had for the mode. City trial wasn't randomly generated, but from what I recall random ass events and stuff would happen that kept it fun, and fresh for a while.

I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of Palutena dailies. You'd have thought that the Sakurai Bump would have at least given us a couple good pics.

you guys are so greedy for info lol. this is what happens when sakurai treats you, you just develop an immunity to nuggets of info, you need purer and purer grades of hype before you can get that blast

Isn't that going to happen in Smash Run, too? If I remember, they said at E3 that there are apparently random events like gusts of wind and messed-up gravity.

You overestimate me. I'd actually be fine with 'Pic of the day. Palutena is sleeping on the job! Pit looks on, perhaps he's disappointed?' at this point.

I'd be hype for a trophy like King K Rool or a a Boss/enemy from Kid Icarus. Not just info.

A forgettable enemy from SSE? Nah.

Bandits from Yoshi's Island could also fill this role nicely.

There is no such thing in this world as a fact that doesn't mandate an argument to support it. 1+1=2 is something that needs to be justified by argument and proof (it only requires a simple argument to prove this for most people, but it actually requires a rather complicated mathematical proof).

In other words, it is necessary for human beings to argue things. Without an argument to support it, there is no reason for people to take any fact at face value. If you are not willing to make an argument for why the Classic Mega Man games are the only ones to count as "mainline" Mega Man games, then there is no reason for anyone to believe you or agree with you. And it is clear that no one else is agreeing with you on this matter at the moment. Since "truth" is born from a consensus that arises from argument, you can't really lay claim to an absolute truth when no one else agrees with you on and you are not making any attempt to establish greater credibility.

In any event, there is a tendency within the Mega Man fanbase to broadly categorize the games as "the main platformers", the "Battle Network/Star Force series", the "Legends games" and "the spin-offs". The Classic, X, Zero, and ZX games are all seen as a singular continuity of plot and gameplay. It is actually more coherent than many other series (such as the Legend of Zelda series).

Show me where Inafune or someone at Capcom said that this "fact" "is a fact"

Show me the world where, post Mega Man X, Capcom didn't go full out with the X series. MMX eclipsed 7 and 8 iirc
