Awesome! I was really hoping that Mac would have his hoodie as an alternate costume, but wasn't expecting it after the big deal Sakurai made of the Wireframe costume and the fact that it was used as his entrance animation.

I hesitate to say that this means that a bunch of characters will have alternate costumes... after all, it's very possible that they already made the hoodie for his entrance and then said "eh, screw it, let's make it a costume too". But... the moment that a PotD shows off, say, Link's Magic Armor or Samus' Fusion Suit could be an amazing moment indeed.

Wireframe Mac certainly counts as an alt.

It doesn't count as an alt (alternate costume) any more than the Link one does. Both are elaborate texture swaps with no model differences. That said, in my opinion, model changes and elaborate texture swaps both count as alternate costumes.

An interpretation of Yarn Kirby might work well in providing a distinct alternate costume that would still be compatible with the hats.

I'm talking about the Jump Suit, not Wireframe. The suit is obviously more than just a texture map.

1. You said Little Mac gets alts (plural), implying he has more than one. That's what I was going by.

2. Link only has 5 known options. When we found out about wireframe Mac we didn't know he'd have the jumpsuit as well. Following that logic, Link could very well get an actual alternate costume that changes his model on top of the elaborate texture we already know about.

I love Smash 4's main theme, it's epic, upbeat and it really feels like a battle/battle preparation theme in the same way that 64's menu music did.

I completely agree! It's catchy without being repetitive like Brawl's theme (although that was probably because of how often it was employed in the game's soundtrack). I've been humming the Smash 4 theme ever since Sunday.

Melee has special ways also of unlocking characters, like the cases of Luigi and Ganondorf as far as I can remember. I just hope that unlocking characters is more scattered in game modes, not just in one go like SSE.

Brawl has that too. Each character has three ways to unlock: through SSE, through match count, or through something else.

Well, Little Mac's pink jumpsuit WAS at E3. He wears it during stage intro. I guess since they already modeled it they figured they might as well make it playable.

I doubt it since this model was already being used in his intro animation wasn't it? So they probably thought "why not - may as well throw it in?".

The thing you guys have got to understand about alternate costumes is, Sakurai will most likely only add one when it's either just as important to the character as their default costume (He Fit Trainer, Female Villager, Classic Wario) or if it's a downright obvious choice to include because of prominence, relevance or sheer popularity (Pink Jumpsuit Little Mac). I don't think we're going to see alternate costumes that simply look cool, yet have no more importance to the character than any other of the many costumes they've had (for example Cat Peach, Light Suit Samus, or Zora Armor Link). It's also got to complement their default costume well. I doubt we'll see costumes that change the face or proportions of a character, only the clothes, hair, weapons and things like that. No Young Link costume for Toon Link for example. And I also don't think well get costumes of completely different characters. So here's a realistic list of possible alternate costumes (from my point of view) that I think Sakurai would actually put into the game.

Mario: Dr. Mario (Only because he was a character in Melee and he was cut. Otherwise, Dr. Mario is one of the many looks Mario has sported.)
Link: Zelda U Link
Fox: 64 Fox (Clothes only though, I don't think the face, head, body or anything like that would change like it does in PM.) and possibly, but not likely Assault Fox
Samus: Prime suit or classic suit
Zero Suit Samus: Two piece orange suit
Zelda: Zelda U Zelda
Peach: Casual/Sport Peach (The most prominent costume Peach has had that isn't her default look. Used in almost every sports game)
Bowser: Dry Bowser (Has appeared in multiple games since first appearing in NSMB)
Ike: Path of Radience Ike
Pac-Man: Party/Ghostly Adventures
