On the argument that a costume can't be an "alternate costume" due to the fact it's just a texture swap, let's look at Link's so-called "half-assed" costume.

So, here's Link in his regular tunic (and E3 2013 face, eugh). Pretty spiffy, yes.

Now here's Link's Skyward Sword tunic.

If you noticed, Link's Skyward Sword costume is slightly different from his normal model, if you look around the belt area. Also, the blue markings indicate the model's texturing would have to be slightly modified just to put them in specific coordinates on the tunic.

So yes, the design is half-assed because it's barely any different from his regular tunic, along with the fact Sakurai gives other characters nearly different models (Villager, Little Mac). But technically speaking, it is a very slightly-modified model from regular Link.
I'm not sure what you're seeing here? The belt looks the same. Any minor difference I could notice seem to be just from him being in a different pose. Plus (like you mentioned), the other picture is older, differences could just be tweaks to both outfits.

And I'm not sure I understand why the texture is mapping differently for the blue dots? Unless the old tunic is just repeating a slightly textured green all over the place or something. I thought it was generally more like a full texture mapped onto the model, to help show the folds in his tunic and such.

Not just saying you're wrong or anything. More likely I'm just missing what you mean and need it pointed out.

No, I think you're right. They're the same.

If the models are anything like Brawl, you're right. No change to the UV mapping would be required for something like this, the alterations would just be painted onto the texture. A quick look around Brawl Vault would show many similar retextures.

The geometry isn't different, it's just the texture itself giving that impression. Tons of Assist Trophies in Brawl, and even some parts of the main cast themselves, used the technique of texture detail giving illusion of geometry.

Anyway, although this isn't just a color swap, the texture change outside of the red cloth part is pretty basic. Look at how the upper blue markings clash with the texture around Link's collar. They didn't redraw the original texture there, just replaced the original color with blue. So, you can still see part of the collar texture under the blue marking.

It's been fun following the craziness and hype of this thread. It's now going to be fun being able to join in directly! :)

I see you don't have an avatar. Perhaps you'd like to partake in an avatar bet with one of the illustrious members of this forum? It's SmashGAF's speciality.

Guys

Has anyone pointed out that in his intro Mac gets rid of the pink sweatshirt?

Will he have another intro if that skin is selected or it will be a sweatshirt inception!?

Clean:

Why are you posting a Brawl in the Family comic without either the alt text or a complimentary link to the comic so I could look up the alt text myself? You're depriving people of a second punchline. Kind of inconsiderate! Try more like this:

Alt:
Lots of booing in that room, I'd bet.

No Wrinkly Kong ghost, missed opportunity...

Pic of the day. The pink sweatshirt looks really cool on Little Mac, so you can use that outfit in this game… How can a pink sweatshirt look so cool?

Looks like some of you noticed that this version of Little Mac wasn't shown at E3. There are many things, like Link's Skyward Sword tunic design I posted earlier, that haven't been revealed yet.

Awww yeah, only using this Mac

So uhmm 3 alts for Mac?
I only remember Wireframe and this one?? What is the third?
Also I guess we will not get shirtless boxer alt for Mac? Only in Giga Mac form I guess...

Give me Zamus alt costume Sakurai!!

Also if everyone gets an alt I can't think of any for Sheik... SS Impa Sheik hybrid?

Good, now bring us Dr.Mario, Mr.L, Dry Bowser, Lobster outfit Link, Masked Dedede and unmasked Metaknight.

Oh right, has anyone talked about that new video GameXplain put out? At 23:15, they start talking about how one of the Smash Run events is that a Boss character shows up. Then they list Dyna Blade and Kraid.
He mentioned Dyna Blade in the context of Kirby Air Ride, but hopefully he's right about the rest.

I think it's pretty amusing that Link is getting short changed in the alternative costume department, as the other characters (so far) have some pretty spiffy alt's.

No, all of this is wrong. You're looking for minuscule model changes in screenshots with different poses.

EDIT:
Also a Kremling boss.

It'd be interesting if these bosses were like smaller scale versions of SSE bosses with a range of attacks though with the structure of Smash Run I don't expect that'll be the case, more like souped up spongy enemies with a few more tricks I'd guess.

There's not many other Kremling bosses outside of K.Rool so it may very well be him, Kudgel and his palette swap Klubba are all I can think of to fit the bill unless they took a bigger mook and graduated them to boss levels.
I'm still wondering how Kraid's enormous self fits into a random event in a map like that (I'd assume they turn up in the smash run overworld) , too big for Smash Run!

Too bad his face wasn't modified.

Getting ignored isn't exactly new for Smash Link. Though if the greater care given to Toon Link in Brawl and 4 is any indication; we'll hopefully see a lobster shirt and conductor uniform alt for him.

What I was wondering is where is the good Smash 4 art?
I remember someone posted a really cool Pixv artist but all his/her work was from Brawl...

I want to see the new characters lol

Am I the only one who couldn't see anything wrong with Link's face? I don't get the complaint honestly.

Some girls I know of giggle with delight when I show them POTD with Link in there, so they aren't seeing anything wrong either :p

I think its sort of becoming a joke at this point more than anything else

It's not unimaginably horrifying, he generally looks okay when his mouth's open, but everything below the nose just looks weird and oddly proportioned in an idle position, and the deathly pallor really doesn't do him any favours. Also, the eyebrows don't match up to the standard set by previous Links.

Best Smash 4 art is Neogaf's own Neorice

But given your avatar, I guess you already knew that. :P

Huh, I just realized.

Fossil Fighters came out after Brawl. It now has 3 games since then, and is apparently moderately popular and successful. The dinos are even "chibified".

FOSSIL FIGHTER REX IN SMASH PLS
