Show of hands, would anyone actually be offended if Ridley were scaled down, to the point where your enjoyment of the game is lessened?

If no one cares, then it doesn't matter in the first place.
I don't consider scale-wise the Ridley you posted to be remotely offensive. Dude's a guy who can be cloned/reconstructed anyway you want, and that scale still makes him big and imposing.

His M:OM design is awful though so I'm glad regardless of how things turn out it's that design that's regulated to a boss.

Of course not! Anyone who says otherwise is a crooked jerky chocky and they drive a crooked hoss!

I just don't care enough about Ridley to care one way or another. Put him in, don't put him in, shrink him down... whatever. I think there's more interesting characters that I'd personally prefer to see.

My only request is that, if they were to put him in, they do not use Other M ridley.

If he's in the game as playable, I'd much rather him still be large. Maybe not quite as large as he was in Brawl, but big. Of course I'd take him downsized, but I think that being big is a pretty important part of his character at this point. Plus, it would make him an even more unique fighter. Plenty of other fighters have had characters that tower above the rest of the roster, why can't Smash?

As long as it's not Other M Ridley I'll be good, but I do think a playable Ridley that's right around Bowser's size would look pretty silly. He should be the biggest character on the roster by a decent amount.

This thread is worse than SmashBoards. At least Smashboards has the non-Smash 4 forums where people actually talk about the games.

Last I checked, I've yet to see a single user here write poems about how terrible Brawl players are or dismiss others based on low post counts.

Because Smash Bros. isn't a traditional fighting game -- there are platforms, items, other modes like Smash Run, and so on. DK, Bowser, and Dedede are as big as any Smash Bros. character is going to get.

What if Ridley makes it in but he turns out to be the lowest character on the Tier list?
Mewtwo and Sonic were awful competitively in their respective Smash Bros. and they were still really fun to play due to their movesets. It'll be a bummer but not one that stops people playing as the character.

True. I dunno I just think that's the way it should happen. I imagine Sakurai does too, probably the reason why he's most likely just going to be a stage boss.

I certainly feel this place is better than the Smash 4 section, but that's not saying much.

Also, thank God NeoGAF doesn't track post counts.
...then goodbye?
Doesn't mean I don't enjoy this thread for what it is.

There was no character as large as Brawl Bowser in Melee. Precedents aren't barriers.

Sakurai made Kirby and Olimar work despite their actual sizes so if Ridley is playable, I don't see the problem with shrinking the character to better fit in with the rest of the cast.

Yes, but only if its that incarnation of ridley. That would be an offense to the fans.

We should get Corrupt Phazon Ridley, the latest one from the prime series and the most streamlined one (no spindy neck/limbs). Would be the easiest to scale down.

If people can't see potential here, they have no imagination.

I couldn't tell if I was feeling happiness or sadness when I first say Dark Samus' amazing AT.

I would love Dark Samus as a playable character, and it would've made a great one obviously, especially from looking at the AT. Too bad it will most likely never happen considering we have the, I still think, incredibly questionable Zero Suit Samus. I doubt we're going to be seeing three playable characters with the name "Samus" anytime soon.

Have no damn idea why ZZS was chosen over Dark Samus in the first place. I have no damn idea why ZZS is even a playable character in the first place.

One time Sakurai brought up that if Ridley were to be playable he might be a bit slow.

How would you feel if Ridley, due to his size, is slow on the ground but quick in the air?
Most of Ridley's movement in the Metroid games occurs when he's flying, so it would make sense that he would retain some maneuverability while airborne.

I'm content with being happy, since I never thought it was likely we'd get Dark Samus in Smash 4 at all, and an impressive AT like this proves my thesis for a much later argument on the viability of Dark Samus as a distinct character with an interesting moveset.

She's bound to be more interesting than Ridley, anyways.

R&D1 takes precedence over Retro.
Yeah, it sounds dumb, but that's probably the case. The Prime games are low profile in Japan, and they aren't considered part of the mainline series over there.
And now Other M provides a stage and the Metroid character designs.

...

At least we got classic Mother Brain and Dark Samus.

Ironically, Ridley has been pretty quick on the ground in Prime, Prime 3, and Other M, though I guess that was only when charging.

No, you were the first one to mention Ridley because people said K. Rool might be a boss.

Wrong. Finale Fireworker wrote out a really dumb post about how "size DOES matter" talking about both K. Rool and Ridley that I then snarked about, having been under the impression that NeoGAF was above such things.
