Maybe you're right -- it wasn't referred to as the Zero Suit in-game, but Other M's concept art uses the Zero Suit name.

It's not tied to Nintendo specifically, and there's another generic "announcement" event immediately after Marvel, so I highly doubt it's anything important, but...

Someone said there'd be a few 'suprise announcements' at EVO. No idea what they could be or who's doing them. They could be anything. Pretty sure last year they showed off a new Killer Instinct build right before Marvel so it might not even be related to Smash or Marvel.


edit: wait Ultra Marvel vs Capcom 3? What? hahaha
 
I posted this last night, but for those that may have missed it:
So I went ahead and made a Google Doc for Project M friend codes. Check it out here! I know have more people's friend codes, but just let me know if you want me to add them (along with Time Zone and your mains if you feel like sharing those as well) and I'll put them on there. Rather not share somebody's code who doesn't want it up there. I'm going to keep it private since there's only a few of us who'll be using it and we don't want it vandalized, so PM your code and other info and I'll add it.

Also, I know Heath and I had discussed doing a Google Doc for Smash 3DS/Wii U once they come out, so if anyone has any suggestions on what else should be on the list, let me know. We can consider this a rough draft for Smash 4's friend list.

As a Smash character, I still only think she's mildly interesting. At least she's fairly diverse considering the source material though.

As a Metroid rep, she is possibly the worst one imaginable. I'd take a generic space pirate over her, any day of the week.

Watch as no one is revealed at Evo but the next day Sakurai posts a new veteran on Miiverse and everyone complains that they weren't shown at Evo rather than celebrating another reveal.

I don't see Phazon Samus getting a rep, but Ninty isn't nearly as antiprime as most people assume. Miyamoto hinted revisiting the prime series just recently at E3.
 
ZSS was (like Sheik is to Zelda) a part of Samus in Brawl. I know that has changed now, but that was the original conception. So I wouldn't dare say Ridley's chances were cut because of ZSS. That was gonna happen, regardless.
 
If Ridley is indeed a no-go, I think that a simple Space Pirate would be a nice addition for a Metroid rep. Zebesian or the ones from Prime Trilogy, I don't know, or maybe a composite character. They could be pretty cool.
 
I like the idea of a unique "Space Pirate" character. A combination of unique moves from various important bosses and/or enemies. Not just some generic one. That would be boring.

Well they could have the jetpack for example, that blade they use for close combat, missiles, and maybe use Phazon? They could even make a move in which they simply throw a Metroid Dedede-style for example, and as a Final Smash they unleash the Omega Pirate.
I just want a Metroid rep which isn't Samus, it's long overdue.
 
during the pre-brawl days i always wanted one of the hunters from metroid prime hunters, and never really gave ridley much thought at all

idk if that was weird but in my defense the hunters are pretty cool

Feelings mutual. I just would hope it isn't just anything just because, and definitely not at the loss of ZSS.

I am liking this Combi-Pirate idea.

Composite would be the best way to go. Preferably keep a lobster claw for one hand.

Jetpacks are a must. The karate kicks and throwing claws used by the ones guarding Ridley would be awesome.

I think a lot of people were expecting something with Sylux at least, and then nothing ever came of that.

They would've been cool.

Yeah, I remember Sylux's name coming up a decent amount, though I'm not sure why. Was he of any more consequence than the other Hunters? I remember Trace being the most popular, but that might just be lingering trauma from being sniped by a cloaked Trace one too many times.

Looking back now I should've known that being from some NST-produced handheld spinoff they had no chance, but I guess that I just thought they had cool powers and were on my mind at the time.
 
Here's our Prime rep (either Space Pirate design would suffice). I'd make the character average to above average in speed, with alot of meaty short to mid ranged normals. Maybe some decent ranged swipes with the hand-blade and a short ranged "blast" like attack (Phazon based?). Playing him against him at a distance would be best, if I had my way with it.

Oh, and just for funsies. This Space Pirate (whom I'd name Johnny) was sent to assassinate Samus, even though there really isn't a plot in Smash to begin with!

Sylux's backstory was basically "something something hates the Federation, something something," and Samus probably isn't on speaking terms with them after Fusion. I guess the logic at the time was that they'd be more likely to revisit official characters if they were going to continue that branch of the story, but then they never actually made a game set after Fusion. Then there was this, which people assumed was the Delano 7 (jury's still out on that).

At the end of the day it didn't really make any difference since Sakamoto was eager to completely ignore Prime for Other M's story, so a character from an NST developed spinoff had zero chance.

EDIT: Check this part of the clip out. Kirby throws him off the edge, and then he seems to do a quick Shadow Sneak to counter. Very cool!
