Perhaps to an extent, but Brawl Snake feels much more like a generic heavy character with explosives rather than a character meant to be played tactical. PM Snake feels more like a character that's meant to sneak in bombs and tranqs rather than a character that can just run around, kick people really hard, and blow them up with a random rocket launchers or missiles.
Huh? That's not how you play Snake in Brawl at all. I can't say much about his PM moveset since I don't use him there (he felt pretty damn easy when I played him though), but Snake is a camping and zoning character through and through than a heavy hitting archetype. He's clearly a defensive and spacing character that requires thought to use effectively.

You don't see much rocket launchers or missiles in high level Brawl at all. It's really his tilts that are too powerful, but his strength comes from his ground control.

He whips out a fucking rocket launcher for his forward smash and it's super satisfying to land. Regarding it being it unfair...wasn't the up-tilt hitbox way worse?

the knife is a knife. Uh, yay. I know he uses it in MGS, but it comes across as underwhelming. Save for that for a forward tilt or something.

It's odd. That's Big Boss/Naked Snake's thing, not Solid's.

Seeing as how I cherish Ness/Lucas's movesets for representing the games/series as as a whole, this (and his Down Special, I guess) doesn't bother me

Yeah I very much do not agree that Snake feels like a generic heavy character at all in Brawl. As a Guile player for as long as I can remember, and a huge MGS fan, he's litteraly one of the most fun fighting game characters I've ever played. And is designed damn near perfectly to represent his series and his character as well.

Sometimes I play him and I'm still amazed how well he turned out and was translated. Fucking brilliance.

The "Snake" in Brawl is never really defined as far as I remember. He's got characteristics from Big Boss and Solid.
Solid_Snake_Trophy.jpg

What about his trophy? Solid Snake:
"A former member of FOXHOUND with an IQ of 180 and mastery of six languages. He's an infiltration specialist whose ability to carry out missions under any conditions has made him a legend. He's saved the world three times from the threat of bipedal, nuclear-armed mechs called Metal Gear. Currently he's working with the anti-Metal Gear group known as Philanthropy
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes"

I'm pretty sure Snake is Snake in the way Link is Link and not exclusively OoT Link, TP Link, SS Link, etc. There's not an exclusive identity behind any of the characters save for maybe Wii Fit Trainer.

Seriously. I hope he at least makes it in as DLC or something.

His design has some shades of Big Boss though, and he makes BB eating noises. In addition to some MGS3 camo colors.

Yeah but that doesn't make him not Solid Snake. I mean he probably makes Big Boss eating noises cause they shared the same voice actor and they thought it'd be fun to add anyway.

I mean he has stuff from Big Boss but he is clearly David.

I didn't remember if he was actually ever referred to as Solid anywhere in Brawl. Thanks for the clarification.

He still borrows things from Big Boss though. Along with with the other things mentioned, him shaping his C4 as a butterfly everynow and then as well.

Yeah, he is definitely solid. I can see why people would think he's kinda a mix though because of the MGS3 references.

Also I highly doubt Sakurai and the team would take Snake's moveset, a third party character's moveset, and just stick it to another character.

If an Advance Wars character gets in, they should have their own identity, not Snake's.

I honestly think an infantry of two or three little soldiers is more likely to be playable than Andy or Sami. They’d represent the series as a whole, which dates back to 1988 — Andy/Sami didn’t debut until 2001. The infantry would also more directly represent the mechanics of the Wars series.

That'd be really cool.

Will their be a separate OT for when the game releases, or is this one it? I think we could get to 20 OTs by the time that the Wii U version releases
in 2015
if this stays as the main thread.

My partners and I will trying our best to release Smash 3DS OT a week before Japanese release date, and we will keep 3DS/Wii U daily image thread for people don't have the games so it wouldn't clutter up the threads.

Saw some stuff about improved load times in the SDCC build, so I thought I'd draw your attention to this.

Obviously it will be fixed by release
Yeah, I think that it's probably the same build. It would be kinda odd for them to get a newer build together with all the same content, though some work on stability is possible I suppose.

This is the first time I've heard the Mushroom Kingdom U music, though, and my goodness is it amazing. I am more than a little convinced that Smash 4 is going to have the best soundtrack in the series.

Yeah, it's kind of funny that the Smash music for Mushroom Kingdom is way better than all of the music in NSMBU

I don't see why they'd make a new build. The E3 one does it's job, and working on completing the actual game would be a far higher priority than making a new demo (which takes significant resources and time, they can't just press a "new demo" button and all is updated).

If there was a new demo, surely it'd have more characters than the E3 build. No way they'd make a new demo just to tweak the mechanics.

I think having Andy/Sami as a rep that uses tiny army sprites (a la Pac Man) to fight would be cool. For example, Up B summons a copter sprite for recovery, B summons a tank that moves and fires (kind of like the assist trophy), Down B could set a Rocket/Missile Launcher as a stationary weapon, stuff like that. It could even be used for standard attacks, like down aerial being a bomber that shoots missiles downwards.

I'd personally go with Sami since she looks like the infantry soldiers so she could pull off some moves that represent them.
