Quoting so this isn't stuck on the bottom of the last page. Glad you finally got to play it, Sah!Smash Brothers! I have returned with my impressions of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS!
I'm going to breakdown my impressions in different headings for easy read.
Please note, the Wii U game was NOT available unless you won on the 3DS in their small tourney, which I did, but my name was not added to the Wii U register. Also, this was the E3 build.
Visuals
The first thing I noticed when booting up Smash 3DS was how crisp the game looks. The colours pop, especially on 3DS' poor screen, and the game is extremely smooth at 60fps, though I had only one hiccup for whatever reason. The game looks GOOD. Like damn good. Characters are smooth, animations are fluid and the game simply is beautiful. I played on an OG 3DS and an XL. On the OG, the game looked crisp and sweet and the camera was barely an issue at all, even at its most zoomed out point. On the XL, the game looked visually duller, colour and crispness, but once again, very, very nice visibility.
The 3D in this game is superb. What it does it keeps the stage and characters on the foreground plane and the stage gradually sinks into the back. The characters pop in 3D and stages look damn good. 60fps is maintained in 3D and often, items and AT's pop off the screen, and screen KO's look AWESOME in 3D.
As we know, AT's run at 30fps, though is very unnoticeable, even in 3D, so that's good.
Controls
My biggest fear was how the game would control. I thought it was very difficult to get used to and performing Smash attacks was a bit unnatural. However, after a match or two, I finally learned the control system and was smashing like a damn pro, so controls are fine as long as you give it time to adjust. I had zero issue with controls on both consoles. Mind you my smaller hands may contribute.
Gameplay
So, okay. How did the game play?
The game played fantastic. I had an noticeable 1v1 match where me and one guy both played Little Mac on Gerudo and I only just beat him in Sudden Death. I had zero issue picking up items and using them, or throwing them. The Nintendogs AT was on-screen for a bit too long, but damn the way it popped out of the screen in 3D was amazing.
Also had a fun match on the Reset Bomb Forest with Toon Link. Using his bombs in the sky led to some awesome KO's and his down A (in the air) is very strong, and his FS has indeed, remained the same.
I would like to point out that the game is reasonably fast. A definite improvement from Brawl, though KO cielings are a bit too high for my liking, with some smashes not KO'ing at 100%
I managed to play around a total 1.5hr session of normal Smash, and a Smash Run.
In all honesty, Smash Run is not as hype as I thought. Maybe it was because I was on a system with a defective circle pad, but I felt the game was kind of slow and I didn't end the match with too great of stats. Maybe I just need to learn it some more. The end match was a standard Free for All.
The game was very fluid and quick paced. The items were not too frequent, got to see the Blue Shell which locks onto player one and also, I got to see how the Beetle works. (OHKO) AT's were fun to see, their models were great, such as Moltres and the Nintendog.
Overall, feels 110% like a Smash game should.
Characters
I played as Little Mac, Marth and Toon Link.
With Little Mac, I felt him to be a very powerful fighter, well, if you can handle his speed. He runs very quickly and is real easy to miss hits with him, I mean like, real easy. Once landed, his punches hit hard and he feels very technical and smart. His FS is a slower Giga Mac which performed well. This dude requires patience. His dash side B can easily overshoot people and I went over people too easy. His neutral B is very good, though timing has to be spot on. His Smash attacks are cool and the fact his side smash has three types, there's plenty to choose from. Also note that Mac's neutral A can go on endlessly. Some guy in a match with me had it going for ages on me.
Marth was interesting. I found him to be kind of slow and his attacks were weird to use. Mind you, I rarely played Marth in Brawl, so this may be why I played badly with him. I should learn how to use him! I'm not used to the whole spacing strategy, though I really like his up B!
Also, I tried out Toon Link and man, he is good. I used to play him in Brawl so I have a clear idea on how to use him. Using his bombs and arrows were simple and he felt very fluid. Infact, my best games came from Toon Link. His jump was fairly high, however, but overall, solid fighter, with some pretty good air game!
Stages
So I played a lot of stages. Battlefield is Battlefield. The lighting is very nice when it fades and the background is cool in 3D.
Reset Bomb Forest was an eyefest, so much pretty visual effects and the aftermath section was pretty cool.
Tortimer Island was fun and surprisingly very colourful! Trailer showed it to look kind of dull colour wise.
I greatly enjoyed the Prism Tower. It looked great moving in 3D and the moving platforms added a great touch.
Overall, I greatly, greatly enjoyed Smash Bros for 3DS. It ran as advertised and it plays a dream. Those on OG models, fear not, it is very good and looks great. I really felt like I was playing Smash like a 10 year old again with all the action, KO's and AT's going off.
Some guys I were playing with were very impressed with many switching their opinions on it being a lesser game.
I have more to say, but it can wait. I guess incase anyone has any questions, you're more than welcome to ask.
All I'm saying is Smash on 3DS was worth the hype for me and it will not be a horrible game some are saying. It was absolutely fantastic.
Don't work too hard, but thanks! It was in one of the Treehouse Live threads. Digging for it.
god, that would really be the worst. They wouldn't do that, would they?
....
oh god.
I have the feeling they were fucking like rabbits.... waiting... dun dun dunnn

For what it's worth, it's still technically Friday at SDCC right now. EVO final was at Saturday, and they did announce Pac-man in the evening of Friday![]()
I personally wouldn't expect any announcements until the next Nintendo Direct.
Nice! SmashGAF represent!

Also why is BitF ending
Haha, that's great. So weird to think how often Nintendo must be reading our silly arguments.
Also why is BitF ending
My welp was directed to DEHF, arguably the best brawl player.
I'm in the tournament! Got my wrist band![]()
The death of the 3DS version has been greatly exaggerated. Long live the 3DS version!
But Pac Man got announced at E3, not EVO.
so, 2 hrs... hopefully they make an announcement before/after the tourney... I am not even there and I am hyped as fuck
Maybe we'll get an announcement of an announcement

:O :O
What Kamiya character could this be teasing?! I'm guessing Viewtiful Joe or Amaterasu.
Woke up at 4am to be like 9th in line for the tournament. Been getting so much play time in. Wish me luck.
The treehouse guys and other reps are painfully aware if what Smash fans bicker about. They see all the Ridley hysteria though I've not been given any personal views on the subject.
One lady felt we'd get an announcement during Comicon. I don't believe it at all.
Smash Brothers! I have returned with my impressions of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS!
man I just gotta rep DK.
Wait, dang this thread is cruising. What's going on here? Is there going to be a character reveal soon?
Good luck man! Thanks guys! I plan on using DK but Bowser is teasing me. He is just a clear winner in the making but man I just gotta rep DK.
I'd like to meet Anthony, where are you?
My station just now laged and froze like crazy. The Nintendo employees seemed perplexed. Ran really smooth all day yesterday as far as I know.
what's going on?
I can smell the hype. but I don't know where it's all coming from.
I have the feeling they were fucking like rabbits.
I'm kidding. Since Horizon said the "Next week in game magazines" thing that Kamiya likes tweeting so I played around and took it as a hint to a Kamiya made character.
My bad though, should have mentioned in a spoiler tag that it was just a joke.
3DS tourney in 70 minutes.
3DS tourney in 70 minutes.
Maximilian was swearing up and down that the 3ds version was sub-60fps. I knew I was right when I played it (unless we are all wrong lol)
Thanks for confirming Sah.
Probably best to wait for an analysis from digital foundry, could be a situation like Mario Kart 8
Kind of expecting this while in 3D mode. Something that won't bother most players but those with an acute eye might notice it.
But it's going to tear us apart and inspire a bunch of preorder cancelled posts when it does happen, and I look forward to it.
