Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

This is pretty much my line of thinking.

While Mega Man was not surprising in the least, the Villager blew my mind because of Sakurai's stance on him in the past. Then out pops Wii Fit Trainer who would have fallen under the same category as Villager during the brawl days and I now have 2 WFT characters. I could only assume the next reveal would have been someone more obvious. While Rosalina isn't a stretch by any means I did no see her coming and not because of some dumb old "4 reps per franchise" argument. I know she has taken a playable role in 3D World but Sakurai has had her in mind from the get go obviously but I thought she would never be a playable character.

I keep saying there are certain shoe ins but at this point but now I just don't know. Ridley's chances look better every day.

is this what Ridley supporters actually believe

If Ridley was a stage hazard he should have just let it slip unless he plans on showing it the day after a megaton, like delay after Sonic.

If Ridley is a stage hazard I really don't see the point of hinting at it and then not revealing anything later. Sakurai is either trying to get a rise out of people or oblivious to the characters popularity in the west.

Sakurai loves leaving people hanging. Took him a while to fully reveal the Galaxy stage. Who knows how long until he explains the phantom armor. Then there's the Find Mii stage we only got a small look at.

True. The only difference with just about everything else is that we more or less saw something cryptic right away and were made to guess what it was. With Ridley we were given a hint through text and follow up pictures talking about how big certain holes were. After the "we have nothing to announce in regards to Pokemon X and Y" I was certain Sakurai likes to toy with the fans. Not showing Ridley in what ever form he takes is just asking for hype and he knows it.

Sakurai uploads the pic of the day while wearing a Ridley costume.

Wonder if we will get full access to the music and VA gallery in Smash Bros 4 just like in Brawl.

Since he's taking vacations for a week, I'll come back with some big reveal to catch up right?

Right!?

Hopefully. YOSHI REVEAL!!

And why hype a stage hazard? Isn't that a downgrade from being a boss?

Meta Knight with Galacta Knight alt plz sakurai.

That depends on how you view it. Stage hazards would certainly get more screen time from the average Smash player.

That's true, but it seems less prestigious to me. It also doesn't mean that Ridley can't be a stage hazard and a boss. Sakurai's description was deliberately cryptic enough that it left all possibilities on the table.

Meta Knight with Galacta Knight alt plz sakurai.

I would like metaknight with a Alt of his concept art.

Anyways Why do I have the feeling Sakurai is the kind of dude tow ork while he breaks.

Also

Why do I get the feeling the first pic when he returns will be something cool on the battlefield stage

Year of Ridley. Ridley confirmed to be the new SSS-tier newcomer for brawl, Grand Theft THE BABY: Ridley City Stories to be an M-rated Wii U release, Nintendo High dating sim announced with Ridley as a romance option, shiny Mega Dragonite is Ridley, Diner Dash knockoff featuring a waitress Samus that has to feed several Ridley customers revealed for 3DS, and a live-action TV noir drama featuring Detective Ridley trying to solve a murder mystery involving Samuel Hunter slated for release on ABC this March.

It turns out Samuel Hunter is a girl!

Also they drop the bomb that Ridley was a girl this whole time and the entire game has been a metaphor for Samus coming to terms with her femininity and independence.

Meta Knight will be getting buffed, Ganondorf will continue to be nerfed.

Giga Bowser shows up as the final boss of adventure mode, only to be cubstomped by Ridley, who then sends you to another stage called Ridley Island where you compete to collect the most metroids and then engage in a duel.

Ridley will not be a fighter in Smash 4 because they know the community needs something to talk about when they announced Smash 5.

Ridley actually might make a good stage. You fight on his back while he flies around.

Better yet, make it like the Metroid Prime 3 battle at Norion. You're all freefalling together and have to watch out for whenever he "stops" himself on something since you'll get whiplash'd off him at that point.

What is the purpose of changing Pit's recovery? And has it been confirmed outside of that one shot in the original trailer?

The same pose can be seen in one of Pit's 3DS shots on his character profile. The purpose? I don't know. We haven't seen the entirety of the move, but it certainly looks like it's no longer a "fly anywhere you fucking want" move, so it could be that Sakurai realizes that the recoveries of most characters in Brawl were a little too absurd and that a recovery move like Pit's had no place in Smash Bros.

Never found pit's recovery to be too annoying to deal with compared to that bats.

Pit's was definitely not the worst in this regard, but it was up there. Four jumps + glide + fly anywhere move is just too much. I feel that even characters with the best recovery should have to work for it at least a little bit. R.O.B., Meta Knight, and Pit were just a little too over the top.

In fact I'd be fine with gliding removed completely, now that I think on it.

Oh, okay. I don't remember the 3DS shot. We have gotten bombarded with so much information that it is easy for me to forget some things. Pit's recovery wasn't too ridiculous in my opinion, he was really vulnerable while doing it, and you only had so much time to get where you needed to be. I wonder if this means all the flying characters will be reworked. I hope all of the flying characters can still glide at least.

In fact I'd be fine with gliding removed completely, now that I think on it.

Heh. Oh no.

I like gliding for the winged characters but I feel like there should be some major trade off. Or maybe not, it never felt too overpowered to me when my lame DK and Bowser recoveries had to go up against them.

I agree Pit's main recovery may have been nerfed to just flying up at an angle with no control or it very well could have just been given a different start up animation from the ground.

i'd be ok with it being gone.

Maybe to commemorate Uprising giving him a more updated arsenal, he's just got his recovery nerfed a bit in favor of beefing up his other attacks.

Yeah, gliding's a strange beast. Everyone being able to use it freely without going helpless was kind of crazy, and glide attacks were way too strong.

I wouldn't mind seeing it heavily reworked or tied exclusively to a special move, like Project M does.

"Here's my cat playing the latest alpha of Smash4, which is not in the photo."

Man, I hate the Daily Smash Images, because I feel a psychological need to stay up and see them posted.

Even tonight, when I have to run a 5K marathon tomorrow and wake up at 6 AM for it, I'm still eagerly awake waiting to see the picture before I hit the hay.

Don't let me down Sakurai! Be something good!

...So, who wants to break the bad news?

Assuming this isn't a joke post.
