Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I really don't understand why he's cutting SSE simply because:

Sakurai has also stated that the main single-player campaign will not feature cutscenes akin to the Subspace Emissary mode in Brawl, as he felt the experience of viewing such scenes for the first time was ruined by people uploading said scenes to video sharing sites.

Why do leaks have to stop the game from having an epic single player mode? EVERY game has their cutscenes leaked.

I liked SSE :(

It'll still have cutscenes, but it'll be like the Mega Man intro. Who knows, maybe he's lying so we don't pester him for screenshots.

Random question time:

Going by memory Brawl had 3 pseudo clones added: Lucas, Wolf and Toon Link.

Eventhough every attack had different effects and they generally had different animations (and often wildly different hitboxes on smashes and the like) they can easily be described as "similarly looking characters with similar moves".

Keepind that definition in mind, imagine SSB4 added 3 more "pseudo clones". Which characters would you like to see in this role?

(note: I don't care if you actually don't want to see clones at all, I'm curious what characters people would pick more so than their stance on clones/pseudo clones themselves.)

I dont think that means what you think it means.... ( wolf shares a grand total of 5 attacks that you could call similar, unlike the other two ) Also i don't think a character looking like another character constitutes it being a clone. Because gannondorf.

But to answer... what I could decipher from the question.

f-zero might get a 2nd guy. Eh.

Prediction:

Black Shadow will take over Ganondorf's moveset. Ganondorf will get replaced by WW Ganondorf with an all-new moveset.

Unnecessary resources being used on something that most only played through once, if at all.

I can't imagine why he isn't rushing to say "We got significant feedback that everyone hated something we worked really hard on and thought was cool, so we're cutting it."

The truth serum that game journalists are administering to developers before interviews must be getting weaker.

Are you saying the old Ganondorf will meet his Demise?

I hope the game does have an Adventure Mode. I liked Melee's because of the game themed levels and the extra things you could do on some of them, like exploring the Underground Maze to find the different Links to fight and the timed escape on Zebes.

They should also bring back game related enemies besides the ones from Mario:

- Mona (of Wario, obviously weaker, but bike to scooter seems really obvious even if the fart mechanic is a bit... problematic for her)
- Lucina (of Marth, I want to say "lighter and faster" but I think just different properties to her basic moves would work out better)
- Toon Zelda (of Zelda, probably a straight clone but smaller)

Honestly I'm all over adding clones - more characters is always good and if they're easier to implement, why not? As long as they make sense, of course.

And... the data/proof you got to back the bolded up, besides random people on gaf... is....?

because it obviously was true, and unless you have stats to prove otherwise you can't counter it

oh what's that, Nintendo doesn't have online capabilities for you to see Subspace completion? too bad

(this is obviously not serious)

I definitely agree. Just throw in at least one stage based on iconic levels from each character's franchise and you'd probably have the perfect single player, imo. It could be a lot of fun for people to playthrough plus it would do a good job of further introducing people to other franchises, which is also one of the SSB series' purposes.

They aren't going to make Link and Zelda inspired after their TP incarnations and NOT do the same to Ganondorf. There's a certain consistency here to Sakurai's madness.

Keepind that definition in mind, imagine SSB4 added 3 more "pseudo clones". Which characters would you like to see in this role?

1. Bowser Jr. - A quicker, smaller, weaker, lightweight Bowser. His attacks would look more inexperienced than Bowser's; for instance, sometimes when he attempts to use his fire breath he'll just cough out a puff of smoke.

2. Toon Zelda - Like Toon Link, a smaller, more agile version of Zelda.

3. Medusa - Assuming Palutena gets in as a lightweight staff user who casts bright light magic, Medusa would be a slower, heavier, harder-hitting version of Palutena who instead uses her staff to fire dark energy.

I see where you're coming from, but on the other hand we have a vaguely TP Link and a TP Zelda, but also a Toon Link. Although having the set of three TP designs follows a certain logic, so would having two designs based on TP and two from WW.

Actually, it kind of annoys me that we keep ignoring the watermarkless versions of the images in favor of the Miiverse versions with the watermarks. The Miiverse versions are gonna be around for a long while, guys. The website versions without the watermark are more ephemeral, and vanish daily. Am I really the only one who cares about that?

There's already a bunch of repositories that host the ones from the site, and Miiverse updates earlier generally so it propagates faster.

I was collecting them too, but in the end I just stopped bothering and used someone else's.

how does one find a clean version? was always curious about that

(also Miiverse gets posted first, which is why it gets posted more)

No. It's just easier to see it in the morning, rather than wait for the watermarkless version for commenting.

The small tab is negligable anyways.

I find this whole conversation on the SSE really fascinating/funny when you apply certain contexts. Here, GAF is echoing the internet majority in how terrible and sloppy the mode was and how glad they are in it not being repeated for the new games.

Then you go on Miiverse and you witness hundreds of people bitching at Sakurai for not including a similar mode and how they won't purchase the games because of it.

Me? I'm stuck in the middle. I liked the SSE a lot and don't think it's the mess people often make it out to be, yet I don't agree a successor would be necessary in these two Smashes. So weird!

I just kinda feel like he wants the "Triforce Trio" to retain the same art-style.

FWIW, I only post the daily.jpg versions on the minus gallery (well, since August anyway)

Oh yeah totally. But he wouldn't have to defend his choice, exactly, if he wanted to take the 2 and 2 route, is what I mean. And IF Ganondorf were to be given a new moveset, it would make more sense to totally change his design, to help prevent any confusion. I don't think Ganondorf's design would change unless he were planning to overhaul the character.

To answer Neorice's question about Pseudo Clones

1. Chrom

This seems like a safe pick for a pseudo clone, keep Ike and Marth then have Chrom be a somewhere in the middle clone. Give him Roy's charge b that works like a mix between Marth's and Ike's, and the rest of his moves would be sort of like this (up b faster/weaker Aether, D b counter, side b maybe would be unique). Have his a attacks be a mix as well being slower then Marth's but faster then Ike's. This allows us to create a character that's a happy middle between Ike and Marth that would expand the roster without being a completely new character.

2. Pikmin & Alph

This also seems like a safe pick for a pseudo clone, similar moveset to to Pikmin & Olimar, but give him flying and rock pikmin instead of white and purple pikmin. Rock pikmin are slower then purple but deal far more damage, flying pikmin go farther but deal less damage then poison.

3. Dark Samus

If Ridley can't be a 2nd Metroid rep due to being too slow/big/etc then I feel Dark Samus is the only other logical choice as a second rep. Dark Samus would be able pool from the Prime series without having to completely retool Samus move set.

Anthony Higgs / Noxus / Rundas as a pseudoclone of Sub-Zero / Glacius, respectively. Or I mean hell, they could even fight as an icy clone of Samus herself! We've got Ice Missiles, the Judicator, Higgs' freeze ray, the Ice Beam...

Dark Samus as a Lucario clone.

Skyward Sword-art style Impa as a Sheik clone.

I care about them as well, but I know where to get watermark-less versions after they are gone lol.

I rather have alternate costumes than clones =/

I do appreciated your efforts and I do care about it. Just that I don't know where to find it and I assumed that you would luje to keep the job if we knew how. I guess I was wrong.

Well, if we get a Direct, it won't be announced till pretty late EST like usual, right?

Usually they would announced the directs before 11am est.

Depends on the situation. If he runs out of time to add completely new characters but has just enough time to fluff the roster with pseudo clones which at least bring a few new moves to the table I wouldn't really mind that too much. Of course having those clones be alts and getting completely new characters would be ideal but time is the enemy.
Unless they do DLC which would solve all our problems

- Dimentio as Mewtwo/Lucario clone or replacement.

I like clones/semi-clones when they make sense and come from the same series as the source character. Ness and Lucas, Fox and Falco, and Pikachu and Pichu should be sort of similar to each other. The only clone that truly bothers me is Ganondorf.

As much as F-Zero is dead, I'd be okay with Black Shadow or another F-Zero character taking over Ganondorf's move set and Dorf getting a brand new move set.

I've been playing Brawl a lot recently (playing as Random as always), and I have to say, I'm really happy with Brawl's improvements to the "clone" characters. Even Ganondorf's. Warlock Punch and Wizard's Foot do seem out of place, but other than that I think his move set is actually quite fitting for the most part.

That said, I'd prefer not to see any more "clone" characters this time around, and I don't think we'll see that either. Hopefully characters like Ganondorf will get even more changes to their move set to make them more different as well. We're already seeing changes like this to characters like Bowser and Pit, so I think it's pretty likely.

I agree.

Not directed to you ryce , but I must reiterate that I don't even feel wolf is psudo. He two moves away from being strait up different.

That brings to my point.

Wolf Fox and Falco have the same ultra, how do we fix this?

Screenshot reminds me a lot of the room in between Brawl boss battles.

As far as clones, some that I could think of would be

Alph/Charlie/Brittany - Olimar Clone

Sami - Snake clone

Any Fire Emblem lord - Marth clone

Mii - Villager clone

Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh/Unova/Kalos trainer - Pokemon Trainer clone

Dark Pit - Pit clone (this would actually make sense as clone rather than an alt, given the wealth of weapons they could pull from)

Dixie Kong - Diddy clone

Daisy/Pauline - Peach clone

Dark Samus - Samus clone (without transformation)

Baby Mario & Luigi - Ice Climbers clone

Impa - Sheik clone

Midna - Zelda clone

DK Jr - DK clone

Black Shadow - Captain Falcon clone

Ninten/Paula - Ness clone

Yarn Yoshi - Yoshi

Yarn Kirby\Prince Fluff - Kirby

It's pretty easy to think of a plausible clone for almost everyone.

I agree.

Just make Falco's be an arwing strafe. Boom done.

Wolf Fox and Falco have the same ultra, how do we fix this?
I've always felt Falco's Final Smash should have him jumping into an Arwing, taking off into the sky (out of view), and then reappearing a few seconds later firing lasers (or dropping bombs) on the stage. Wolf's would be the same thing but using the Wolfen instead.

Who seriously cares about cutscenes when they're just a bunch of unconnected intros?

I can't help but be confused that some people are "happy" that he just isn't bothering on trying to do a proper single player this time, rather than doing it right (i.e. not smash bros adventures in generic jungle/cave land)
