I find it interesting how Sakurai hasn't revealed Ridley yet as a stage hazard. Something tells me that Sakurai is planning something big with Metroid and I have a feeling that he wouldn't keep Ridley in the dark for so long if he wasn't going to be playable.

We're on our fourth picture and still no stage hazard Ridley.

There's still (likely more than) a year to go. Not every pic of the day is going to reveal something new. It makes sense that Sakurai would stretch out the confirmation of a Ridley stage hazard. Besides, four pictures of the same stage isn't exactly a lot.

Building up Ridley as a stage hazard would be such a poor way to hype the game. Ridley has been wanted as a playable character for such a long time, being popular even all the way back to pre-Melee days (only Mega Man can also share this distinction and he's in). To this day, he remains among one of the most wanted newcomers for this game. Building up Ridley as a playable character makes sense because so many people (at least up until the Pyrosphere reveal) were anticipating Ridley and would really excite a lot of people. Building up Ridley's reveal as a stage hazard would be bad for hype as it would only serve to create more backlash than if Sakurai revealed Ridley as a stage hazard quickly. I doubt many people are hyped for a stage hazard Ridley.

The Ridley wars in Miiverse were crazy last night. Sakurai did say that he and his team read everything, I seriously wonder what they think about our silly debates. He's got to be thinking the position that RomanceDawn takes is superior and the most logical. You might even say I effectively changed Sakurai's mind if Ridley was only going to be a hazard.

I'm going to run amuck when it turns out he's not in the game period. Even in sticker form.

Well, it suppose it would be nice/inclusive if you didn't for the few that don't want to see them, but at the moment the only pictures we have are scans, which are bannable offences to post, so it's a moot point.

Who knows really? Have they ever been frank about how long a character takes to add? A lot of work sure, but who really knows.

Master Balls, I'm sure we can roughly figure it out if we can find out the time period when Sonic was approved. It was Sonic who caused delays and gave Mewtwo the boot, I'm convinced of that.

None of those are going to happen, late or early.

I'm sure Sonic happened late given his role in Subspace, though considering Snake wasn't in it either maybe that was only for Nintendo characters.

Uh...I don't see it. And no, they did not port assets over from Brawl. They don't look exactly the same and are more vibrant, because the models were recreated as Sakurai had said in an interview.

If anything, like I said in the other topic, I could see The Pokémon Company splitting the two up and assigning them to the two relevant spinoffs that Mewtwo is most likely to appear: Y-Megatwo in Smash, while X's much more fighting oriented can be reserved for Pokkén.

It's the main reason I could see them giving both forms representation, without necessarily giving it a grand total of 3 forms to go between in either game.

That's... kind of brilliant, actually. I can't see them using one of the MegaMewtwos as his default form in Smash, and it would be a bit crazy to try and incorporate both into his moveset, as a Final Smash or otherwise, so this seems like it would be a good compromise.
