Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Not good, I like meta knight. He needs to come back and have more accent with his deep voice so he sounds all spanish like he did in the cartoon for some reason, just with a deeper voice. So I can make fun of him while I play with my friends

NONONONONONO PLEASE ANYTHING BUT THAT

And It feels like i'm the only one who feels that it lived up to the hype. T_T

You're not alone, bro. ;D

yikes lol at least i didn't stay up to see that pic.

why not give us gameplay vids once a month of the current characters, without final smashes if they want to keep those secret.

please :'(

picture was fine, it showed us something new infact. I have no comlaints.

The first site launched alongside the announcement of Brawl at E3 2006, but the daily updates (and site redesign) came a year later in May 2007.

Wow, blast from the past. I think if i remember correctly there was an even simpler version of the site, which was more horizontal in its design. But I may be wrong there.

I do agree the screenshots are becoming a bit tedious now. Obviously we're all super fans in this thread here, and patience is a virtue and all, but I'm sincerely hoping it doesn't take as long to get it out as late as Brawl's release was, and also that we get something more substantial soon in video form, because it seems at this rate we may be waiting a good long while.

Because of the lack of information about the 3DS version, I would hazard that that'll be released later, but Nintendo may try and release them together for marketing sake.

I feel like Brawl lived up to my hype - the most exciting thing obviously is the character roster, and I feel for the most part it did deliver rightly, so I'm expecting great things with Smash 4, and WFT and Villager have already impressed me. The hype is great, and I know I'll never not come back to the game or lose interest by the time it lands, or we know everything about the game, it's just the actual waiting itself which is so bloody hard, and as a lot of people have said also - the Wii U reeeally needs some more big titles to bulk its first party library up and shift some units.

I don't think I'll get a Wii U until Smash lands, but I really want to play Mario 3D World

Brawl's single player was horrible, especially SSE. And the online... yuck. At the time I thought it lived up to my expectation but I was so blind to the hype that I didn't care at all. But in retrospect, Brawl while fun is a really flawed game.

The roster lived up to my expectation though, Mega Man aside although I had a bad feeling he wasn't going to make the cut... But hey... he's in now :D

I always thought Meta Knights forward throw was a little weak. Hope they buff it.

it literally took me a minute to go through meta knights entire moveset in my head and think of something that wasn't ridiculously good. that fucking character

Actually, Meta Knight's f-throw recovers quickly and puts his opponent in a prime position for a Shuttle Loop follow-up (above him and slightly forward), which can lead to an easy gimp. =P

It lived up to the hype for me.

But I'm not one of those guys who physically abuses the dodge and shield buttons or only use one character for 600 hours.
Yes, I know that dodge and shield use the same buttons.

How? I mean, the events weren't good at all, but the single player was not worthy of being deemed horrible.
I feel they definitely improved home run contest and multi-man melee.
Adventure mode is disputable, since the opinions on that vary.

And even the boss battles?

Also, I never really encountered the flaws that online had, such as taunt spammers and all that, so I guess I don't understand that part, but still.

Luigi's up b in Smash 64 was actually decent. Then for some reason they made it horrible in Melee and Brawl.

poor weegee

Literally the only reason I don't list Luigi as a main post Smash 64 is because of how horrifyingly meh they made his Shin Shoryuken. Nothing like wall loop thorws into down smash into BURN IN THE FLAMES on Hyrule Castle's lower right hand area.

Hell, I got so good at using that one move, I'd kill steal in four player modes by camping in the trajectory of an attacked opponent and launch them with it. :lol :lol :lol

Haha, I know basic stuff but there are people that make him practically invincible. He flies, hits, disappears, hits again, flies, hits, KO...

I always like linking to this post I made back in the day trying to explain to fighting game people what it was about MetaKnight that made him so batshit.

Although I definitely wish I had eased up on the hyperbole in that conclusion, yeesh. :lol

Online is almost all taunt spamming now, you pretty much have to set up games to get any good matches. It was fine for the first six months or year or so though.

Event Match were alright, they didn't suck. For some reason I didn't enjoy them as much as Melee's. Not sure what exactly it is.

Classic Mode was further bogged down with the loss of Race To The Finish. (Break the Targets twice, really!?). Also the lack of end of match score bonuses was a letdown... not a deal breaker but why get rid of that? Classic Mode is seriously watered down with no new additions or changes to make up for it. Like they just take Classic Mode and made it much worse, nothing was added to make it interesting.

Break The Targets was gimped into difficulty-specific stages instead of character specific which means very few variations of the mode. I understand what they're trying to do but I feel that it sort of miss the entire point of that mode. Break The Targets was far better as character-specific because it was more of a test to see how well you know your characters' movesets.

SSE... well I've already went through that many pages ago. Did not like it at all after replaying it. It was just a huge boring mess. (Adventure Mode wasn't great either but it was a lot better to me)

Oh and the trophies... I'll explain about that later. Right now let me just say it was too focused on quantity over quality.

I'll agree that the co-op and boss attacks were amazing additions and I hope they continue with those. Those are about the only things I really enjoy to this day.

Taunt spammers usually stick to free-for-all matches, though it can be pretty difficult to get a full 4 players in random team matches. I've seen in some taunt matches that 2 people will go off and fight each other, so maybe the best thing Sakurai can do beyond making online not be a lagfest is to make a nice random 1-on-1 option, hopefully with stocks because time matches are the goddamn worst.

Still does not sound worthy of the term "horrible". But, at least you have reasons.

My main classic mode issue is that you fight in the same series order every freaking time instead of it being random...and being forced to fight ness and Lucas on newpork city especially the ko 15 stock version was torture.

I've never noticed this since I rarely ever play classic mode because it bored me to zzzzzzzzzzz

That really sucks

Except for the fact, he's a video game character and he originated on Nintendo with Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.

Except he didn't. The MSX spawned "Military Eye" as others pointed out. Batman on the other hand, has had a game on every Nintendo console and handheld minus the Virtual Boy, and he has had more exclusive Nintendo games than Snake has games on a Nintendo platform.

*Takes off devil's advocate horns*

But he isn't a video game character, so that all means bat-zilch.

That was hilarious.

Imagine this situation, Sakurai is trying to nerf Metaknight but he can't figure out how so he decided to delete MetaKnight out of SSB4. How people would felt about it?

I'd laugh pretty hard. Except I imagine the Namco guys spending a week pulling their hair out trying to nerf him. At this point I'm pretty indifferent about the veteran cast members who have any chance of being cut. I could always play Brawl or even Project M if I missed any characters that much. Show me the fresh faces Sakurai.

And speaking of improving characters...

All of Marth's moves will now have a tipper, and he will get his tentacle grab back from Melee.

I will destroy you.

I will destroy you.

soooo...should I add Batman to the SmashGAF cycle?

Joking aside, I seriously hope we get some new footage soon. I am expecting something new to pop up this week still!

How long has it been since that Galaxy stage tease? How long has it been since a new stage period?

Is Sakurai going to consider the Pyrosphere Ridley hazard reveal as a new stage update?

Ridley will be a stage. And it will banned at tournaments for being overly big.

Rainbow Cruise is legal in Melee and a counter-pick stage in Brawl. I don't see why Ridley would be banned.

So Space Adventure Cobra's Neon Big Bird, basically. (No relation to Sesame Street, the name's just ridiculous.)

What in the thing? Who in the what? I am not aware of such things... But sure, exactly like that.

Yeah, I should say that it was actually technically over a year afterward: E3 2006, where Brawl was first revealed, was May 10-12, and the Dojo launched May 22, 2007.

Interesting. So:

Reveal: May 2006
Dojo starts: May 2007
Release: January 2008 in Japan (original intended for December 2007)

So we had a good 8 months of daily Dojo updates leading to launch. If they really do stick with the 2014 release date (I personally think the game will be pushed to early 2015, but considering how bad the Wii U is doing, maybe they'll work some overtime and really push for late 2014), I could see daily updates starting in... March or April 2014? MAKE IT HAPPEN SAKURAI

There's no way this drops before November 2014, right? First half of next year is Mario Kart's turf, I'm thinking Smash is their holiday juggernaut.

As for Meta Knight balancing, I think it would suck if they change his mobility too much, as that's what made him fun. I'm looking at you Brawl Fox, you boring fuck.

I'm thinking:

-make him even lighter
-Take away a jump or two, his recovery is way too fucking godlike
-nerf the knock back on his up b that shit is stupid
-lower knock back and damage on his down smash
-make his tornado not stupid

at least. I feel like that brings him down from broken tier to simply high tier. maybe an overall damage nerf would be sufficient, dude's ENTIRE moveset is useful.
