Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Dope. I'd take a sidescrolling action game with toon link.

Huh. Throw me in the "would've sworn Toon Link was getting the axe" pile. Guess I can't complain, except that it'd be nice if they'd actually balance Link for once.

While they almost certainly ported the animations, effects and other data associated with the characters, the textures and models we've seen so far are new.

The texturing's clearly been redone, but I'm not at all certain that the models aren't just touched up Brawl assets.

Would be easier to use the lower-poly Brawl models as a base though, and would mean less UV mapping and work in general. So not really from the ground up if they did that. I'm interested to see how different the models are if people ever get at the disk data for Smash 4.

That's probably the case, since looking through a bunch of Dolphin shots the only things that are significantly different are things like hair.

And Samus.

Well, I wasn't making the "from the ground up" claim, but I could've worded it better. The models are new, even if they're based off of Brawl's assets.

So I just thought about the reveal schedule.

Imagine the game releasing on November 2014. Sakurai might want to save some reveals as secrets until release. Let's say the game will have between 40 - 45 characters. Now, from October 2013 to November 2014 is 13 months of information. We have 16 characters revealed already. This month we had to reveals and I think that trend can be held until release. If that happened, we would have 42 revealed characters before release. But I guess we could have 3-5 months with just one reveal by Q1 next year. If that happened, we would have aproximatedly 37- 39 characters before release.

Next year is going to be interesting with Nintebdo release, since we don't really know much about WiiU and 3DS software so far, just like 4 Nintendo games on each console. That means we could have like 3 or more exclusive game reveals for each console for 2014.

Yoshi is going to appear next year in two games as the main character: Yoshi Yarn and Yoshi's Island. Plus he will appear in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Golf 3DS. And there might be another Mario game (Mario Strikers U?) and maybe DLC for 3D World including Yoshi as a character/power up. So my guess is that next year is going to be the year of Yoshi.

Now, with those things in mind, let's look at thepossible character reveals.

November:
Pokemon Trainer
Zelda

December:
Diddy Kong
Sonic

January:
Yoshi (because year of Yoshi)

February:
Captain Falco

March:
Wario (MK8 release?)
Ganondorf

April:
Ness

May:
Bayonetta (2 release?)
King Dededee

June:
Namco character (E3)
New character (E3)

July:
Marth

August:
Lucario (or Mewtwo) (Pokken release or something?)
Zero Suit Samus

September:
Falco
ROB

October:
Meta Knight (Kirby game release?)
New character (Nintendo direct)

November:
New character (smash specific direct)
Snake

Thanks for adding Snake in the end there. For me.

I need him back too. He brought new things to the game, and he would be a unique and nice addition. And I think 4 third party characters would be perfect and enough for the game (I'm counting on Pacman or a Tekken representative, hopefully Jin)

Well, I wasn't making the "from the ground up" claim, but I could've worded it better. The models are new, even if they're based off of Brawl's assets.

Yeah, pretty much. It would be a massive undertaking if they didn't use Brawl assets as a base, so this is better for everyone because they have more time to implement new characters. And the ways they've improved the models and textures looks great so far. And stuff like Samus/Bowser which look completely fresh.

"Every time, you know, I try to the point where I think I can't go on any longer. For example, I think pretty much the limit when it comes to creating characters for a Smash Bros. is about 20, counting those from older games. We remake them completely each time, after all, and the teams and personnel and specs are all different. But we all go beyond what the work calls for because we want to do our best to retain fans of each character." - Sakurai

They remake them from the ground up.

What game is that quote from. I have no doubt they remade them for the first three games.

There are always tricks in development I don't care if they reuse them but what I want is awesome characters.

You gotta accept that they indeed look nice, look at Peach and Toon Link for example.

Besides it could get an upgrade near release who knows...

I'm only arguing that they use Brawl as a base, they would rework them from there.

Yeah, I'm just refuting the port arguments--if there even were any. I see that brought up every now and then about how the game looks pretty much like Brawl. After which I proceed to facepalm and mark the person in my mind as either being blind, or not knowing a thing about game development/design.

I've just noticed that there's a purpleish background between the shell's spikes at the very right lol

man your sprites are so dang gooooood. I especially like Toon Link's expression haha

So, which Pokemon character do you expect on October 12? Mewtwo, Lucario, PKMN Trainer, Jigglypuff or something else?

Dunno if we should expect something on a specific date for this game tbh. Though, I don't think any of those will be announced in relation to X/Y. Though if I were to say those that are most likely...prob Mewtwo or Lucario.

I still say it's very likely Mewtwo won't be revealed until post-launch. He seems the kind of unlockable that's kind of a surprise. Toon Link isn't all that surprising with several factors, even though I'm just surprised he was revealed this early. The fact Toon Link is still very relevent with his DS sequels and now the Wii U HD remake. And Sakurai going out of his way to wanting Toon Shiek/Zelda. Oh and Toon Link having his respective level in Brawl. He didn't seem all that phone in, so I thought his chances of staying was pretty high.

Mewtwo on the other hand got axed from Brawl and many people question if he's coming back or not. The Mega forms really helps the likelihood though... but still it sort of seems like something best saved for later?

But at this point, anything is possible... But I'm expecting Pokemon Trainer's reveal before Mewtwo. We'll see!

I now think it's certain that we'll get a Pokemon reveal on October 12. It's the only series with many characters yet to be revealed and a very important game for the series will be in shops on October 12. Most characters are revealed based on their game's release, so I don't see why this won't be the case now.

Whether or not they're starting with Brawl assets, they look great reworked so it doesn't matter really. In the end they are still different higher-poly models.

Not sure if its been called before but....

Dibs on a "Tales of" character avatar sprite if they are in SSB4 (probably going to be from symphonia if it does happen ).

I want to call for Daisy but im guessing thats been done already

But...but...Snake's a sure thing!

Right, guys? ...Guys?

Nope :(

Oh, and there's another battlefield shot where you can see the different star background. When's the damn Galaxy stage Sakurai!

TWIST! It was Battlefield whole time with some kind of move that would cause the bright light to make it look like Mario Galaxy.

I thought Sakurai said that they were able to port characters from Brawl and tweak them from there. I might be remembering the quote wrong though.

I remembered that too in other thread.

So I just thought about the reveal schedule.

Alright, that's not bad thing but I suspected we are looking at Summer release date (or Early Fall like Sept 21/23)

I think you saw my post right? I mentioned that if they really start working on SSB4 during May 2012 then they would have about two years and few months to working on the game. I would like to guess that they might able to make two characters per month or so for two years and few months. 2 x 24 = 48 characters, plus few months, so I would guess 52 to 56 characters depend on their plans and release date. In my opinion we should have about 35ish starter characters.

Also you forget to mention October so I will fix and add my prediction.

Now, with those things in mind, let's look at thepossible character reveals.

October:
Pokemon Trainer
Mii (or newcomer)

November:
Sonic
Zelda

December:
Diddy Kong
Ice Climbers

January:
Yoshi (because year of Yoshi)
Metaknight

February:
Marth
Captain Falco

I preferred to get close to 2014 so I can predict more.

Thanks for adding Snake in the end there. For me.

Heart-wrench right?

So, what till tomorrow's screenshot be?

Obviously a TL one.

I'm waiting for a TL comparison on the Spirit Tracks stage.

Toon Link at his stage would make sense

So do you guys think we'll get another Wind Waker stage based on the HD version? At the very least, I think the Pirate Ship stage will come back.

I hope so. Like I said, I want the underwater Hyrule just for the scenery. Maybe it could actually start flooding during the battle.

If not, then they might bring the Pirate Ship back. I never really loved it though because I thought the bombs were kinda annoying.
