Statistical analysis is incredibly accurate now. Assuming they did their exit polls accurately they should be able to call the majority of races before they even start counting votes.

Also, people need to pay attention mostly to Genessee, Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties where the majority of the people live in Michigan. Only Oakland country has more than 50% of its precincts reported.

He had invested heavily into SC, so he was able to raise awareness - simply put he didn't invest into the south, because of the actual margin of his SC loss. I'm sure if he did better in SC overall he would have possibly contested other states. But his actual financing is finite - so wins like this possible victory in Michigan mean a lot. It's a boon for media coverage(aka free ads), its a boon for fundraising and it's a boon for people volunteering in future contests.
